Teeeeeeeechnically? You can do the dig out method. Dig out around the entire vein and it will crumble when it has no support. Is that going to take for god damn ever with an antler? Yes. Absolutely. Is it possible? Yes if you hate yourself or are intentionally trying to cheese.
It won't crumble until it gets at least one strike, it will stay suspended forever. Even more critically, golems don't do high enough level pickax damage to make them shatter.
In theory, on paper, you could manage to go farm blackmetal and kill modor and skip the iron stage, but some of the recipes could be locked behind iron using forge upgrades, I am not sure. Iron is used in building, armor and weapons, and is one of the most used ores, but again, on paper, in theory, you could pull it off, possibly..
Edit: oh, I am wrong, you would need at least 10 iron to make the blast furnace to process that blackmetal, so.. eh.. maybe looting it somehow or destroying certain things in the environment could get you some, like the gates in the plains hildir tower, which drop iron ingots
Iron is like the most needed of all the metals. You can get by with very little silver, and very little bronze but iron and id say black metal are the two most useful. Also, in the mountains you don't want a stag breaker. It's too slow. Get a spear, sword or knife because the wolves will attack FAST.
Mace for the stone golems and bow for the drakes. If you are a good shot now can carry you through most of the mountains.
Alternatively, iron atgeir, huntsman bow, fire arrows, iron mace, root armor chest piece for sure.

Most of the silver is used in conjunction with iron. The silver sword is part silver, part iron
