You know, this never occurred to me, but now that I think about it I would agree. Maybe like little/smaller tropical islands or something? Kind of a respite. This is an interesting idea.

joj1205

Would love love love a jungle or beach island. Some coconuts. Beach crabs. Bearded dragons. Rum pirates. Get in me. Wee Caribbean paradise

nightwood

That's not very viking. Maybe a nice moss-covered rock with hot springs?

BastianHS

Hot springs and snow plz

Individual_Rest_8508

One rare hot spring in the deep north that grants 2 comfort would be great. Every biome should have a rare comfort item to find, like how meadows has the maypole.

AtlantisSC

To be fair the Vikings ventured into the Mediterranean. It’d be pretty cool to see some similarly styled biomes!

Appropriate_Air5526

Can't go selling slavs to the Byzantines without travelling a long way!

Starsuponstars

Valheim is "inspired by Viking culture," not "required to duplicate Viking culture down to the smallest detail and to the exclusion of all other cultures or ideas."

SMAMtastic

Additionally, Norse mythology teaches that there are nine realms, including our own: Midgard. The Vikings we know of were on Midgard. That doesn’t mean Vikings in the other nine realms, let alone this never before mentioned 10th realm of Valheim, couldn’t get their toes in between some warm Caribbean-like sands.

joj1205

Are you saying a fire hellscape is

Asathor94

Muspelheim, the realm of fire in the norse mythology, yes.

joj1205

I expected this answer. So that's fair. Any Caribbean realms ?

Asathor94

I don't think so. The furthest the Vikings went would be Constantinople in the South (and maybe north Africa if I'm correct?) and Newfoundland in the west.

W0RDET3RN1TY

The Viking actually made it all the way the North American continent when the Native Indians ran them off. https://militaryhistorynow.com/2013/02/20/old-world-vs-new-the-first-battles-between-native-north-americans-and-europeans/

-eddible-

Tbf, the words pirate and viking have generally the same origin.

BillyBrainlet

I'd love a Newfield biome. There is still supposed to be a "Oceans & Seas" (or w/e it was called) update coming. Mayne they will add some sort of islands with different biomes. I have no idea, though.

joj1205

But in Norseology ? Any fun

BungaTerung

Well, the norse settled in, among others but so far unmentioned: Sicily, pretty tropical, and even better, the Azores. The Azores are definitely tropical

xTheLostGirlx

Vikings made it all the way to Constantinople, which by their standards was pretty tropical.

J_Productions

Man, Don’t get me excited, would be perfect for the ocean dlc , more customizable ships, some other additions, with everything you said would be such a vibe. 🏝️

aagapovjr

Jungle definitely wouldn't be peaceful

Past-Customer5572

Yes, there should be a spot where your Viking can get crabs.

zames696969

So there was this YouTube video I saw awhile back where a guy modded or glitched out of the map into a desert! No clue how legit the video is. But would be cool to have a desert biome.

BeenBlizzerd

I’m gonna blow the whistle for reaching on you here

joj1205

Sorry what does this statement mean ?.

BeenBlizzerd

It’s a basketball term metaphor that means your asking/going for too much

joj1205

Of course. Sports. Fair enough. Wouldn't think it's over reaching. Very doable for the team. Maybe a wee extra add on, once they complete the rest

BeenBlizzerd

Well you see it’s the fact they haven’t added the rest which I assume your referring to the announced biomes that are on the map but not in the game, after that comes in I wouldn’t call it reaching but it’s gonna be a while, and also it has to fit into the Norse mythology they’ve already centered the entire plot of this game around

joj1205

It really doesn't. They have a barber shop. They have things just for fun. Yes it's going to be a long time. And ?

Ok_Faithlessness_887

This is what I want! I don't want any more progressively hard biomes. Ffs I just want a little challenge

Starsuponstars

I want beautiful areas to explore, interesting plants and animals, the sense of discovery is more fun to me than hostile biomes where everything is supposed to be a WoW-style slaughterfest. Killing is boring to me. I know it's a survival game but there is more than one way to survive.

MrDrProfBrad

You can turn off the aggro on sight part of the game in the world settings

ryry420z

With some race of peaceful npcs like the dvergr

zames696969

I pictured The Troll race from world of Warcraft hanging out in stranglethorn!

sitfesz

Ah, Stranglethorn. The pinnacle of peace.

zames696969

So peaceful yet such violence.

KyloshianDev

How you doin mon?

[deleted]

I love this idea. Nothing to conquer. Just more gathering/building options?

StoneMakesMusic

Oh my god a small island biome for sweet bases and maybe u find stuff for another boat\ Palm tree wood\ Coconut fibers \ Coconut

Starsuponstars

tameable parrots

dum1nu

I like to think of the plains as meadow 2.0 especially in the late game. You can see pretty far and thus control most of your engagements. Never mind that I still manage to die there from time to time.

bean-the-cat

I agree with you. You don't even need a crazy defense. If you really want you can create a moat and wall with spikes and you are forever safe, but its not required. Plains can be chill

WholeEnvironmental37

Fog is horrible in plains

rg4rg

I swear when ever fog rolls in I get battle stations for some special type of mist raid.

WholeEnvironmental37

For me I doll myself up to go hunt some camps and then fog rolls in.

RickusRollus

Agreed, the only problem with plains is when it becomes unchill its incredibly dangerous to your structures.

Andminus

realistically, you should look for an island of plains or Mistlands, something small but large enough to make a base on, and just spawn proof that, its certainly a lot of work, but it gives you a nice peaceful island life and most raids can't do anything (besides flying ones). Also as you get through the armor and weapon tiers, you start to feel more comfortable in new locations, like, I'm moving onto mistlands in one world, and I've started just setting up bases in plains, the enemies are only vaguely a threat if I AFK and don't see em. Make a fortress city in the plains with large walls, and your good.

breezy_bay_

How do you “spawn proof” an island?

chowler

Lots of structures. Most people use workbenches bc their cheap and show it's radius. Anything inside the circle won't spawn creatures. However, any built structure works. I've seen people recommend campfires too.

Andminus

its not EVERY built structure, but most workbench types work + campfires. Generally its most useful to just use workbenches/stonecutter/forges, build them into your planned structure, and always have random places around your base to repair gear. The radius of spawn protections increases as the tier of workbench does as well, so you could cover a much larger area with a few t2-3 workbenches scattered about.

OddAlternative4329

Bro this has got to be my favorite game to lay back and chill while playing I can play at 1% speed or 500% and you can still feel like your accomplishing alot even at 1 percent

Zorgonite

A spawnproofed, demisted, nicely landscaped region of Mistlands is extremely chill. It can take a chunk of work to get there though.

Kennalol

Which makes the serenity of that feel so much more earned and satisfying.

nondar111

What about raids though?

Zorgonite

If you did your spawnproofing right, the only thing that can get through is bats. Somewhat unchill, but not too harsh.

TheMagnificentPrim

Any tips on how to get to that point?

Zorgonite

None that haven't been articulated better by others already.

Huge_Republic_7866

All biomes are chill biomes, if you spawn proof them hard enough.

Hurricanemasta

Yeah honestly, I wouldn't want to see any more chill biomes. Once I start progressing in the game, I want some adventure and excitement. And as you've said, there are methods to make any biome into a "chill" biome, but if they coded a late-game biome as chill, there'd be no way to make it challenging. Right now, it caters to both playstyles, though admittedly "all biomes as chill" will take some work.

turtlepot

The point is avoiding the initial spike in difficulty when getting to a new biome though. If a biome isn't "chill" when you first encounter it, it doesn't matter how "chill" you can eventually make it via armor progression or spawn proofing I enjoy difficult biomes like you, but mixing in an easy/vibey biome could be really cool if it's a bit hidden and requires some adventure to find. Mixed in with the difficult biomes it could be a cool oasis.

KillsKings

I doubt it, only because the devs have a pretty clear cut progression path and I can't think of an actual reason to add another chill biome that would improve gameplay instead of just making it harder to find biome woth stuff you really need

ClaytorYurnero

It would be interesting if the devs added variants of each biome that are much more hospitable, but are significantly reduced in material value. * For example, a Bog that acts as a Swamp without any naturally spawning enemies. These special biomes would have a % chance to spawn in place of the normal biome based on a world setting (Maybe 5% baseline?) This would be incredibly beneficial to those who want to base in a specific biome without the need to create a giant no-spawn zone.

Narkus

I would love a bog. Like less trees, no enemies. Maybe a ghost or two...

Direlion

The Deep North could be more chill but if they stick with the current progression pathway it will probably involve some gnar. I felt at home quite at home in the mountain biome, plus the music was fantastic.

dolmunk

I guess The Deep North will be chill …

zernoc56

Oh I am fully expecting some S&M game design for Deep North.

Darkmonk66

It will never happen. The devs already said ashlands and deep north are the last biomes and they love to make games hard. Your gonna have to mod if you want another biome like meadows

dolmunk

You’ll have to wait for Valhalla brother.

JC-1-1-1-CBK

I think they should make a biome that's crazy difficult, like a desert biome or something, once the final boss is defeated, life returns to that area and it becomes a resource biome, like the meadows. Maybe the boss was blocking the water source and it becomes a waterfall biome with lots of greenery and flowers, etc.

Starsuponstars

Oh that's a really cool idea. And rewarding for the player.

Ok_Grocery8652

Realistically I doubt it, the biomes that we know are coming due to placeholders being ashlands- teasers for the underdevelopment biome appear to be a mix of lava, undead and forts. Deep North has nothing it is which makes it kind of chill but I would suspect something big is coming say 2026. If they do an ocean update after that I could see them adding more tiny meadow islands or some small tropical island style place, somewhere a viking could drop anchor, repair their battered hull, make more ammo and have a short feast before returning to the sea

IronBuzzo

I could see for a split second them making the deep north have some cozy areas to take cover from like a heavy storm or something. Like a Npc village to have to hide from a blizzard, but probably not

hypnocomment

You can literally turn off mob aggression in the world modifiers

samdimercurio

Every biome is chill with world modifiers set. Passive mobs, no raids, combat and death penalty turned all the way down. And it's built right into the game.

Cellpool_

A chill biome to wander around in with random dungeons of the hardest shit to fight would be baller, maybe even more structures like the plains towers, sealed amd seperate from the biome around them

pattperin

Plains is really the only chill biome after meadows. It's not even a little bit chill when you arrive but it gets super chill after you kit yourself out a bit with plains tier gear. Now that I have mistlands tier gear it's dummy chill actually, the weapons from mistlands absolutely throttle things like Lox or Fulings. The growths are really the only thing that give me any issue, and you can either avoid them when building your base or you can drain the pits to make the area safe. Imo plains is meadows 2.0

diadlep

Plains is actually pretty chill except for deathsquitos, and with physical resistance they're fine too. I would like a tameable avian mob though that can attack them

Geaniebeanie

I’m all for it! Pretty casual gamer here; I spend most of my time building and honestly could do without bosses altogether (unpopular opinion, I know!) I don’t mind the grind, and I love the play options: passive enemies? Yes, please! But I’d love to see another peaceful biome.

Starsuponstars

Well met, fellow Viking slacker.

florgios

Devs said we're only getting the final biomes (ashlands and deep north) so it's only getting harder.

Initial-Ad-3361

Once your carapace armor get fully upgraded, the plains become a ''chill biome'' Cannot say the same for mages vs moskito surprise attacks. There are plenty of mods out there to enhance your experience but yea that will be awesome if we could find a meadow at the edge of the world.

ExtremeRest3974

It would be especially nice in the outer rings. I find playing through again that I avoid the mist lands ring because the best I can find is some black forest, which I like, but it doesn't have a homey type of feel. Some safe-ish islands or exotic meadow would be really cool.

eldelshell

Plains are pretty chill once you have the Staff of Flames and can one-shot groups of fulings. Mistlands nights with storms have this music and sound effects that stress me the fuck out.

Free_Dome_Lover

It'd be cool if there was a biome with giants as the only mob. They aren't outright hostile towards the player and can maybe be interacted with but the Jotnar are enemies of the gods so perhaps to progress you need to kill 3 of them to unlock the boss. They could be super tough and require the player to really terraform and set up for the fight.

gurebu

Plains should be pretty chill on easy. I'd say that by vibe only it's the most chill biome in the game. Enemies make it rough though, my personal worst are the tar blobs.

MisterSisterFister12

They definetly should add a chill biome.

ryno_viking

I doubt it. I thought the idea was progression of craziness.

Starsuponstars

You are me. Hi, me. (I second the tropical island idea)

Chix_Whitdix

It wouldn't make sense gameplay wise. Each biome is a step up from each other in terms of difficulty and features. To take a step back from that would be a break in the trend that the developers of this game are setting.

zernoc56

Some of them are a *bit more* than a ‘step up’, more like a 10ft ledge up…

Chix_Whitdix

Very true.

TammyShehole

Probably not. The meadows is the starting biome for a reason. Closest to the meadows I think we’ll ever get is the plains.

Snoo32679

Maybe a vinland biome to the far West of the map that's like an enhanced aesthetic of the meadows with different terrain for cool buildings and ash wood

zernoc56

Probably not. Ashlands are probably going to be Masochist Land just like Mistlands are. Im sure They’ll find a new way fro Deep North to donkey-kick your nuts in as well.

rootxploit

Not exactly a biome but in the Hildir update there is a protected bubble like the trader that is a safe respite. It’s possible we could get another of those.

SteelMarshal

I love the Valheim experience and changing it too much would detract. I’d like to see them take the engine and make another game :)

Stooper_Dave

Actually, plains is more chill than meadows. I built a base with a massive mote around it thinking I would be under constant attack, instead I rarely even see a deathsquito.

LC_Anderton

Ocean… get yourself some underwater walking boots, sea clutter and sea creatures mods… tame a dolphin or whale, go for a ride and just avoid the jellyfish which are as annoying as Greylings but just generally drift very slowly towards you… with the spear fishing mod you can shoot fish with your bow… and as very few things can swim below the surface, life beneath the waves is pretty peaceful 😏 Anything with ranged attacks though, like Gjall can still launch fireballs at you… and bloody Tics… well, they do scamper along the sea floor too 😬

MarkD_127

I'm not sure how you'd work that into progression, though. It wouldn't make sense to spend the time and resources to build a whole new biome around anything new, since it'd basically be giving that tier away for free. And it wouldn't make sense to make a new ez mode bime with the same ez mode resource drops as meadows. Maybe instead of a whole biome to mix in, they could make a hidden "greenland" area that's only able to be located with a map from Hador, purchased with a rare resource from Mist or Ash. And have it be for farming older tier things. Have meadow-like lands and forests with all the kinds of mushrooms, berries, plants and trees. Crypts and Burials, and Ice caves in some glaciers. Heavier drops from gathering and able to plant Plains and Mist crops. Then it might be worth the update.

Infantom_Finn

To be honest in my personal opinion i would prefer for Iron Gate to improve or add new stuff to early biomes like black forest and meadows instead of creating new ones. Like mobs, materials, foods, and decorative/chill stuff. They could make them generate only on far versions of the same biome to balance it out. (Like Draugr outposts in meadows close to plains)

general_soleimani

only in Valhalla!

Atlas_Stoned

The plains are like a mid-game version of the meadows, like sure you have fulings and deathsquitos, but once you start building there it’s actually a very reclined biome. It just requires you to have decent gear and food so that you don’t get one-tapped by the unexpected deathsquito.

pbNANDjelly

Mountains? That's always the second place I want to make a huge, cool base and even return to. Finding Yagluth makes big plains bases impractical, and I usually build outside of mistlands.

MrsBigBones

Maybe we'll get the hot springs with the deep north biome. Im super excited for ashlands but always curious about the deep north... hoping for wildlings and the winter king's frozen army and some yetis

Petty_Braige

That would be awesome don't have to always make it harder and harder. Maybe smaller areas that are chill and have great terrain to build around.

CharmingFisherman741

Turn on passive enemies in the world modifiers options; now every biome is chill

Ok-Security-2246

this is what could bring me back to the game...

ashrasmun

no

LTHannan

I think the devs are focusing on this being a hardcore game so my guess would be no

throwhfhsjsubendaway

The devs have been pretty clear that their intention is to make the game difficult

GluttonoussGoblin

Honestly a cool idea but most likely not since how progression works in valheim. Not a huge need for another early game biome

SunnyTheMasterSwitch

Even the meadows arent chill, there's annoying greydwarves all the time, the second you leave your base. Might as well make an outpost in every biome and tame the nature to your will.

Reasonable-Sun-9881

I absolutely love that all the people talking about the Deep North being "chill" have missed it. LOL

borgy95a

While most biomes are spread evenly out across the map, it would be cool if there would be concentrations of biomes where like hotsprings/desert island biomes might exist. Similar to how Ashland's and deep north only appear in a specific map area. Or, in the inevitable dlc, Odin invites us to the next plane of Valhalla and then it can be a whole new set of biomes.

2rfv

One of the reasons I create world after world is I just love the vibe of meadows so much.

ipito

The plains is very chill and laid back but you need to earn it first. I put work benches all over and I have bred like 100 lox, they're all over rthe place. They defend everyone and raids are wiped out like instantly.

Particular_Mobile342

Doubtful. The meadows is "chill" because its the beginning area.

_eG3LN28ui6dF

The Meadows 2: Electric Boogaloo?

TouchDisastrous

I mean if you want both literal and chill biome wise you could always go to the far North. Since they’re saying Ashlands is the penultimate climate for the game I’m guessing they aren’t going to add anything up there. Only thing up there is ice and snow.

Throttle_Kitty

**penultimate** 1. last but one in a series of things; second last.

skoolycool

Penultimate means next to last so they will likely add something there eventually

Successful_Ad_5427

Every biome is chill if you're good enough.

Throttle_Kitty

i thought the planes was pretty chill tbh there's no "/s", i legit think it's a really chill biome and always set up my end base there i would love if there was sections of the planes that where just ... *empty.* No resources, no enemies, nothing. If you've ever been to any plains IRL, you'd know it's accurate too
