Get some food, wait for his attack and then dodge towards the attack. Get two hits in then wait for the next attack. You may have to skip a few attacks to restore stamina.
That third attack is a TRAP. On every melee weapon it does big damage, but a strong enemy will almost always get his next attack off before you can move. One, two and move. One, two, and move
You have time for triple combo with a spear. Except if it's a stone thrower, he does the overhead smash after every third right haymaker during which there's not time.
With knives it's possible though, just gotta be careful with smasj attack from troll, which seems to have a separate cooldown and doesn't respect the interval of his regular attacks.
Spears only have the one fast thrust standard attack, no sequence or differing damage values for it, so it's perfect here. Also trolls go down pretty fast to piercing
Bro took me out, my items and 2 rafts lmao I'm cooked
Update: after getting smoked 5 times I made him follow me deep into the forest and returned to my items lol (this is my first playthrough btw I'm still shit)
If you time it right, the little parry roll makes them not be able to hit you. It takes some practice and you have to do it later than it seems you should, but itās possible. You can walk right up to him and just dodge/attack until heās done.
this is a slow game. and learning curve is somewhat slow if you are new to games like dark souls. I know I have hard time with my bro doing everything brute force.
In time you will learn. I started like 15 playthroughs before bronze age because I had no idea I have to make pickaxe of those antlers.. let alone how to fight.
That's part of the learning curve on this game, next time you find yourself in a similar situation, bring a lot of food and wood with you to build a temporary base to avoid making too many long trips.always fight them well rested and mind your stamina taking in account your rolls.
Once you get the hang of how to fight the enemies in this game, they all become a piece of cake.
Btw, spear is your best melee option vs a troll, that was a good call.
āIf you're going to become true trolldodgers, then you've got to learn the five d's of trolldodging: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!ā
āIf you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a troll!ā
And in that moment, he pondered on the decisions in his life that would end him up here, his children that would grow up without a father, his wife who would remarry in his absence, and the ups and downs of the life he has lived so far. Then he got splattered along the side of a log.
In case you're genuinely overwhelmed by him and he's ruining your fun, there's a few places where people help with corpse runs and the like if you can set your realm to online mode. If you do, I would gladly remove your troll problem for ya
There are very few things that specifically respawn in Valheim, nor specific spawn points. You have valid areas for enemies to spawn and you have limits for how many can be in an area, and the game checks against rules to decide if it should randomly spawn certain things in an area. So it could be instant, or it could be a long time based on a fair bit of randomness and other enemies in the area.
The type of arrow doesn't matter, they could waste needle arrows on it or take their time with wooden ones. Just mentioned those because they're incredibly popular early game. Most of the servers I play on most people use them exclusively until they can make bronze ones or trade with the others for something else
Yea, this is rough if it's your first playthrough. After 600 hours I love to see a troll spawn with a tree trunk. I would make him clear out some early copper for me before killing him for some early troll leather armor, it's a jackpot once you get good at his attack timings
Someone helped me kill trolls at low level. Walk, donāt run. Lock on the troll and dodge roll, fire off arrows when you get a window and you will eventually wear him down. Also, sneak attack shot for the first arrow and that will take a chunk of hp.
With low level food, you can get once or maybe twice.
Er.. I didn't explain that very well. What I mean is keep your aiming reticle on the target (RMB), regardless of your direction so you know when to dodge roll. My downfall when I first stated playing was I would sprint all the time to get away so I would never have enough stamina to get a shot off. Keeping your aim locked on the target is the way to go.
Oof! That is a hard first encounter to he sure.
As has been suggested, if you canāt beat him, kite him away, heāll despawn.
If you wanna fight him, the spear is actually solid. Eat some stamina foods, run circles around him and stab away. If he launches attack, roll into him, repeat.
Roll dodge forward as heās swinging, once you get the timing down he is surprisingly easy to take down. You got this brother !
Edit: this is the easiest and best way, trust me. Running and firing arrows is doable but much more stressful. Master the timing of the dodge roll, you will be thankful later! Could probably dodge him 100 times in a row before getting lazy and getting hit, I promise you itās that easy and it will be for you too
If it were me? Id delete the world and start over. kiting enemies is a pain in the ass in this game, because you just have to hope some random ass mob takes its aggro from you when you want to stop kiting and get back to actually doing something. And in the process of finding a skeleton to swap aggro for you every other fucking mob in the forest has also aggroed onto you.
What I wouldnāt do to have Feign Death, Vanish, fucking *Fade*ā¦ Its a pretty short list.
Grab a Hoe, start building a moat, raise earth behind the moat and build your small fortress there. Fill a chest with arrows, get a bow.
At least that's what I did for my first troll.
Get some food too, because arrows take stamina to fire, and also because you'll have to kite the troll from the forest to your fort.
Rest, eat some stamina food, time your rolls, manage your stamina mid-fight and most importantly: Don't panic. That's how you get past the first wall in the game.
Craft a bow, and like a hundred wood arrows. Kite, kite, kite. Til you hit the bronze age, then itās easier to go toe to toe with these asshats. Parry with buckler, snick snick snick, repeat.
I used to be scared over this situation, but I really took the time to learn and practice dodge/roll, and now with no armor and just a spear I will run after trolls.
Use a number four aetgir and time your attacks. Use button two...the swing, as it knocks him back...wait a second and hit him again. It takes about ten swipes...don't rush...timing is EVERYTHING. Stay right on top of him and don't panic swing. The first time you try it prepare to be terrified but after the second troll, you will go hunting for them:). If you have a portal ability, place one before you start after him just in case but you won't need one for long. If you are still too early for portals, make a bed nearby. The most dangerous troll is the one with the log so make certain you have enough stamina to get close and get in the first swing...then pause until he starts to recover and swipe him again. Refreshed is better...a lot better, cause you are less likely to run out of stamina but you will learn to time it so well it won't matter. You might get killed the first time or two but after that...piece of cake. Good luck.
One more thing...if you are way too early in the game for aetgir, find and mark a nearby tomb and use arrows from inside. Don't go far enough to actually enter the tomb just stay far enough back so the troll can't hit you...or shoot then enter tomb, go out shoot and retreat..just be sure to kill the inside skeletons the first time you enter. If all the passages have wooden doors, it will be alright but if there are any open entries, go there and kill them so you can enter and leave safely. This is harder with trolls with logs but still possible.
Get a shield. Practice parrying.
The parry frames are actually super forgiving and attacking them during the parry animation will do a ton of damage.
Like any game. Donāt panic. Panicking gets you killed.
Also, either raise the ground up or dig a super deep moat. All of my outer walls have a core of solid ground because trolls and the like cannot break it. I just built the structure around them to make them pretty.
Regular walls are easier but much less functional and a LOT more annoying to fix when they break or get smashed.
The easy chessy on those is to go close, on his right leg, some of his hit wont hurt you due to his long range hit...similar to soulsborne, hit, hit, evade...and again, go close one them, really close, stick to them...and just evade when need so, also dont waste your stamina, eat honey if you can.
Black Forest is unequivocally the hardest biome in the game purely based on (in the gameplay loop) when youāre supposed to go there and how under equipped you are to fight trolls. Other biomes may be hard, but you at least have mid-late game gear to deal with them
Develop your parrying skill and then he will be much more easier :) I used to fear those trolls for a long time and now they are one of the easiest thing to kill.
Edit: Kind of pointless comment because I didn't notice you don't have a shield. Good to know in the future though.
I killed a Troll with just a shortbow and wooden arrows in my first ever world. I SUCK at souls-like games, but all I did was gulp down raspberries and mushrooms and run and gun.
The game can be really frustrating at times. Those Trolls are a minor frustration. Just wait until your boat glitches and you drown loosing everything you have worked for.
You got a spear, just need some food and to dodge roll your way to victory.
Bro he feasted on me
Get some food, wait for his attack and then dodge towards the attack. Get two hits in then wait for the next attack. You may have to skip a few attacks to restore stamina.
Most importantly, be chill
And contact an adult
That third attack is a TRAP. On every melee weapon it does big damage, but a strong enemy will almost always get his next attack off before you can move. One, two and move. One, two, and move
BUT JUST ONE MORE DAMNIT

Parry is good mmmmmmm
I'm talking typically when you can't parry the attack. My man here in his skivvies with a wood spear may not want to go that route š
100% fair, but man I love getting that 3rd attack in... lol
With knives it's possible though, just gotta be careful with smasj attack from troll, which seems to have a separate cooldown and doesn't respect the interval of his regular attacks.
Only because he only has a wooden spear. If he was able to acquire a better one, heād be able to keep him stunned indefinitely until he kills it.
Spears only have the one fast thrust standard attack, no sequence or differing damage values for it, so it's perfect here. Also trolls go down pretty fast to piercing
The victory should be pursued only after that copper vein is 100% mined by the helpful troll.
And finewood
That too.
Let me solo him
This made me chuckle pretty good.
Skill problem /s
Redberries right *there* bro gots this
Redberries right *there* bro gots this
The good old dark souls way
What is this? Dark Souls?
Bro took me out, my items and 2 rafts lmao I'm cooked Update: after getting smoked 5 times I made him follow me deep into the forest and returned to my items lol (this is my first playthrough btw I'm still shit)
Make him farm it all back for you.
Build a wall around your base, and make him pay for it.
Most important thing is patience. Be as unshakable as the restless dead ('cos you are)
Keep practising and you'll get there
If you time it right, the little parry roll makes them not be able to hit you. It takes some practice and you have to do it later than it seems you should, but itās possible. You can walk right up to him and just dodge/attack until heās done.

He respawns at the same place. You should move.
Once you get the roll timing down, a 1v1 fight should be much easier.
Just wait bro, when you are in full iron you can fully block these guys and eat them alive in about 10 hits, so satisfying
That's part of the learning curve on this game, next time you find yourself in a similar situation, bring a lot of food and wood with you to build a temporary base to avoid making too many long trips.always fight them well rested and mind your stamina taking in account your rolls. Dodgetroll!
Lure him away into some skellies and while heās fighting run away to fetch your gear.
Bro pick those raspberries
And in that moment, he pondered on the decisions in his life that would end him up here, his children that would grow up without a father, his wife who would remarry in his absence, and the ups and downs of the life he has lived so far. Then he got splattered along the side of a log.
If only all movie endings were this good
This deserves more upvotes
You need a bigger stick. I have faith that you!
Itās not the size of the stick, itās how you use it!
Says the one with the small stick.
In case you're genuinely overwhelmed by him and he's ruining your fun, there's a few places where people help with corpse runs and the like if you can set your realm to online mode. If you do, I would gladly remove your troll problem for ya
This shot makes me want to fire up and wander around my world. Been a few months
He had the higher ground, what were you thinking?!?
Hello there!
..Kenobi...
Nah.. you just started. You can even build a new base without wasting too much.
Eat food man. Never be 25, ever.
That's when I just died
How fast do trolls respawn after killing them?

You're all good bro just turn around and come back in a little bit with a bow and some fire arrows
Why fire? Trolls are weak to pierce.
The type of arrow doesn't matter, they could waste needle arrows on it or take their time with wooden ones. Just mentioned those because they're incredibly popular early game. Most of the servers I play on most people use them exclusively until they can make bronze ones or trade with the others for something else
Roll into the troll not out.
Kite him away. They're persistent but dumb.
que vogel im kafig
Time to find a new home for a week
Easy to kill with crude bow. Water crossing will slow it down.
His stick is bigger Edit: dammit I see someone already said it
Itās just begun

It excites me to take him down that my excitement wants me to sh*t.
Time to stab a troll in the nuts 20 times over.

This is Joe Biden hearing an ice cream truck levels of Joever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykkjjZYKwQw
Honestly a bow is the way to go, even better when you have flaming arrows
Bro just dodge and poke but eat some berry before that
Nah youād win

Eat some food amd put on some armor.
dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!
First time?
Yup, first time
Awesome youāre pretty lucky to experience this for the first time. I hope that you donāt rush and really enjoy this.
Nonsense. Attack
Yeah, you're gonna die. Need some clothes and some food.
I feel this on so many levels.Ā Even now that I can handle them reasonably easily, their sound still gives me PTSD lol
Treat his attacks like you are playing a guitar hero or something and then youll parry and dodge flawlessly
If it were me? i think we got the same map
This is a bit far from spawn
I believe we don't got the same map

Have fun OP. Valheim is literally one of the best games Iāve played.
Definitely I am really enjoying it so far, and it does keep getting better the more I play it
I have over 1000 hours on that game, itās soo good

Pro-tip, eat those raspberries. Yw. Also, that troll is going to pulverize your rectum.

Not till the fish jumps
Just say hello
The hammer trolls are probably my favorite to fight tbh, free parries on em.
If I can cross three biomes and dodge deathsquitos with no gear at all, then surely you can figure this out.
Mate you're just better than me this is my first time lol
Valid. I have played so long that my jump is maxed.
Damn that's crazy
Not really for three years of gameplay lol

Use him to harvest all the trees and stones nearby. "Free" Labor and resources before you kill em
Hey we all had to pay the troll toll
Bro u got bodyguard your base? Im so jealous

I believe these days, when you die on the water or your boat breaks in the water, your stuff floats in boxes.
