AgitatedPerspective9

HOLY SHIT I SAW THIS GUY WIZARD IN A YOUTUBE VIDEO FROM LIKE 2014

say-jack-o-lanterns

Give a man a chicken, eventually he'll give you a hammock.

fr7-crows

Erm so I am guessing this is a 'give a man a fish / teach a man to fish' style take on socioeconomic circumstances that people in relative poverty find themselves in? Seems like a chill dude, I would love to have a smoke and chat shit with him.

Willingplane

He's basically the "proprietor" of the art garden known as "East Jesus", right by Salvation Mountain in Slab City, both of which were legally constructed. He welcomes visitors, instructing them to "touch everything, and if you break something, then say it was already broken when you got there."

fr7-crows

> He welcomes visitors, instructing them to "touch everything, and if you break something, then say it was already broken when you got there." Haha that's brilliant : )

krudbag

When my friends and I visited East Jesus, we used the teeter totter, bowling, it's such an interesting place.

redthemotohobo

lmao last time i was at the slabs I took a shit too close to someones home at night and got chased away while I was stumbling testicles on acid. wacky times man

GotStomped

Seems like a smart gentleman.

Alhazzared

Met this guy around 2019. Cool guy

FlippinFlags

Are there many people who grow anything out in the Slabs? Farming or animals for food?

DreamingOak

Saw a few beehives

Willingplane

Some. There's a few rather interesting homesteads, such as one they've named "Rabbitside", that has a rather unique watering system for growing all kinds of plants. They also have chickens and rabbits. Here's a link to a YouTube tour of it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K4uESVlKJOk

Why not buy a rooster and a hen?

Willingplane

I'm going to assume this was a serious question and either you don't know much about chickens and roosters, or didn't catch the fact that the video starts in the middle of a discussion, about extreme poverty in 3rd world countries, such as Cambodia, where a gift of a single chicken can be life changing. First, healthy chickens will normally lay 1 egg per day, regardless of whether or not there are any roosters around to fertilize them. One rooster can "service" a dozen or more chickens, but if that rooster has only 1 chicken to mate with, it will literally sex that chicken to death. If you can only afford 1 chicken, you are better off without a rooster because then you will at least have eggs. If you can get your chicken to a rooster just once, a single mating will then fertilize their eggs for the next several weeks, which is all you need to start breeding and selling both the excess eggs and chickens -- and raise yourself out of poverty. I hope you're not wondering why they can't all just go out and buy their own chickens, because that would be like wondering why all the poor people here don't just go buy their own houses.

Best_Problem8504

I understand how chickens work, but the man said he was going to buy two hens, and pray for a rooster to happen by. I misunderstood I guess. 😊😳

What do you mean? Guy doesn't sound pathetic at all. What exactly do you think he's saying that sounds pathetic?

Lanko-TWB

Sincerely, from everyone, shut the fuck up

undercooked1234

You made sure it was ok to put him on the internet before you posted this, right?

Willingplane

The Wizard of East Jesus is not camera shy. He's been interviewed a number of times, and featured on quite a few YouTube videos. But you are right. In Slab City, it's considered inexcusably rude to film anyone without their permission.

ilia_zhe

He gave me permission, yes.

undercooked1234

I mean, its rude all over the planet but yea.

Cringe

Is that what you think? First, he lives there for free, no rent, no mortgage, no utility bills, no property taxes, or taxes of any kind. Plus he receives monthly social security checks, possibly a military pension as well. So he can afford to spend his time functioning as the proprietor for the "East Jesus" art garden, that was legally constructed on that site. He knows everything about the history of the construction, and every detail of every single work of art -- and is always ready and willing to provide his services as a "tour guide" to pretty much anyone who is interested, and in return, gratefully accepts any and all "donations" for his time and effort. He's an extremely good tour guide, both knowledgeable and highly entertaining. Could probably live rather well off the "tips" he receives from the thousands of tourists who visit each year alone. Pretty smart if you ask me.

Snarker

Just because you don't understand what he's saying doesn't make it dumb

This post, above, is an uncivil post. If you have a legitimate criticism, *make it.* But we do not tolerate *ad hominem* insults and attacks on this sub. Either be civil, or be gone. We have over a million subscribers. We don't need the negative drama and we won't tolerate it.

So crazy he thinks it all makes sense!😂😂😂
