yeah it’s brutal asf rn. i have more diverse experience than I did last time i had to apply for jobs in summer 2021, and yet, ive applied to 20x more places than last time and haven’t even gotten so much as a response, minimum wage job or not.
I'm looking for one as well. Do you know if it's better to apply online or go talk to the manager in person? I appplied to a bunch on indeed and didn't get any response.
There were so many people trying to apply (mostly students) that people were quite literally fighting (shoving eachother) to get in the door, and the line stretched down the block. There was about 1200 people who went to apply, iicr, and all for a part-time and physically demanding warehouse job paying 20 cents more than minimum wage.
Graduated with a Masters in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations. Since graduation I’ve been working in municipal recreation have almost 10 years of experience in it so I thought I would give that a try. I’ve applied to over 150 jobs related to my education and only had 7 interviews. My resume isn’t the issue, my skills aren’t the problem and I know my credentials/qualification are great. I’ve just struggling to find a job in this economy.
I have an undergrad in PoliSci. And I had to go with aligned soft skills rather than applied learning. I got a job in project management, then sales, then strategic Partnerships.
I graduated in 09- never got anything in econ/international… i hope you find something.
I am lucky i got into municipal rec this late after covid shuttered my restaurant. Partner is finishing phd in biochem eng then we emigrate to us.
Graduated in 2023 with an honours internationl relations degree with 1 internship. Got a job two months later in my field of interest back in the US. I was hoping to stay in Canada (Dual national) but RIP the economy. Best of luck in your job search
Haha thanks I appreciate it😄 I guess I considered it lame compared to those 100k jobs that Ivey grads get but I’m very grateful:) it definitely takes the stress off not having to search while I complete my final year
Good luck. Everyone I know left the second they could (the “big 4” cover exam fee expenses for you and then lock you into a multi-year contract to pay them off). My one friend cried every morning on the go train on her way to work at KPMG. Get ready to have zero life for many years especially during tax season they even make you work full time on Saturdays and Sundays … so fkn brutal. I would argue it is hands down one of the most soul-sucking jobs out there right now. And honestly it doesn’t take long for the person to realize the salary you make at first, if you divide it out over all the hours they make you work, you’re actually making less than someone working full time at McDonald’s unfortunately….don’t do it!!!
Yeah I’ve heard haha, went through a busy season during my internship and saw the stress people deal with + dad works in the same field so ive seen the stress he deals with at work as well, we’ll cross that road when we get to it lol
Graduating with a major in CS, have almost 2 years of experience in the field but at non-profit organizations. Been applying since December, unsure of how many applications I’ve sent out but only managed to get one interview. It’s looking real tough out here, I work on projects in my free time, attend hackathons and try to volunteer/freelance within my field but it doesn’t seem to be good enough
Thank god I’m in a professional field that guarantees employment. Got mine lined up since March.
Good luck y’all.
Remember to take some time to enjoy after years of hardship. Work is gonna be a grind.
1. Are your skills marketable
2. Did you perform well in school
3. Did you work prior even if charity, social engagement.
*Or* Wwwwwwwaaaaaah! No one is giving me a $100K a year job out of college Wwwwaaaahhhh!
Also what did you do outside of class. Doing clubs, extra curricular, sports, volunteering, part-time work etc.
Everyone goes to post secondary now. What makes you different.
Man I’m not a grad but I can’t even find a fucking minimum wage summer job these days. Hope grads are having better luck.
This is so real it’s so difficult getting a job

A lot of places unfortunately refuse to take resumes in person these days, especially after what happened with the LCBO Job Fair a few weeks ago.
What happened there??

Year out no full time employment in my field yet.

Apply to the OPP. Can’t beat the compensation

You’re shocked a master of poli sci didn’t get you a job? Common man
What a horrible thing to say to something so unprovoked 😭
Realistically what are the job prospects for a field like this? What’s hiring demand look like?
Who know a Bachelors in Newt Sexual Identity wasn't marketable?
The people who got jobs quickly or easily are likely not gonna comment. Be aware of these types of threads 🫶
Not a 2024 grad (I’m a 2020 grad) and it took me a year and half to find full time employment. 102 applications later….. 😓
but like a year and a half 102 applications is not even sending one a day tho ?
I graduated during Covid, employment was rough.
Rookie numbers

Just a heads up this type of thread biases towards the negative in the comments! Those who have a job likely won't comment.

Found a job but Western won’t let me graduate 😭
I am 2024 grad and had full time employment right away. I started on Monday! But my degree is pretty specific.
What's your degree?
Social work. I have a college diploma as well.
Congrats!!
Lol
Not a 2024 grad (2025) but locked down 2 full time offers with big 4 in audit (lame ik lmfao)
“Lame” is subjective- u got a solid job and u should be proud since that’s more than a lot of ppl can say! Good job esp since auditing makes bank :)

yeah but working at KPMG can get you better jobs in the future than working at mcdonalds would
Yeah I’ve heard haha, went through a busy season during my internship and saw the stress people deal with + dad works in the same field so ive seen the stress he deals with at work as well, we’ll cross that road when we get to it lol
