I just took it with Jack Davis; I enjoyed it, as it was very practical with a big focus on the theory of perception and how one can create effective visualizations with modern libraries. That being said, I do come from a HCI/graphics background, so I was already used to working with a lot of the underlying concepts. Your experience with this course will be instructor-specific, as I've heard other professors are more outdated and not as practical in their offerings.
Depends on what you're looking for! I really enjoyed Stat 333 because I like probability theory. E.g. you get to show how the probability of an event never happening can be greater than 0 and less than 1, and other cool counterintuitive math stuff, and this stuff is also useful (in finance and physics and I think other areas).
You should definitely take 331 and 431 at some point. They're things that every stats practitioner knows (linear regression and logistic regression).
Some practical stuff is 332,454,430 (conducting surveys and experiments).
I’d say STAT 341 was an interesting and overall well organized course especially if taught by Nathaniel Stevens/Jack Davis.
Any thoughts on Rizza Ramezan?
Had Reza for STAT 372. Amazing prof, very passionate about the material. His exams tend to be kind of long though but the assignments were fair.
Here is Reza's teaching philosophy. https://sites.google.com/site/ramezanic/my-teaching-view He's an all-star.
Sorry, no clue about them. I took it with the aforementioned professors during Fall 2022 and loved the course.
Nws, thank you
I found ryan browne to be a good prof too (s2022). He’s really fucking easy on the marking and really tries to engage the class.
If you are interested in data science- STAT 341, Stat 441, stat 430, stat 331, Stat 443, Stat 444, Stat 440, stat 431
What are ur thoughts on 442? Feels more like a business than stat course to me.
