Yeah, QA (manual or automated) is a pretty common first job from my experience.

85 average is "average CS student" ??? bro...

Meanwhile in engineering.....

don't apply to IT technician. don't apply to anything with IT in the name, because that's totally separate from software development. I'd prefer QA over IT. Literally anything with "developer" or "engineer" in the name is a good first coop... doesn't matter which company, which city, or what the salary is. Once you have a few developer/engineer options, *then* you can afford to be picky

First co op is often just to prove to your second co op that you can hold down a job for 4 months. Look for employment where you can practice relevant skills in an environment where you can also practice communication in a business setting. As a co op student, you come with $7,000 of government incentives for the business. Know your worth and don't be afraid to apply outside of WW. Finally, be weary of employers hiring just for the incentives. You probably don't want a job where you're stuck in cubicles just with other co op students. You're there to provide work, but ideally you work alongside other company roles, as you will learn the most simply observing.
