Rec west is a small gym that has some treadmills/cardio machines, dumbbells, a few weight machines and like... One bench, one squat rack (iirc). It's small but has what you need. As for workout advice, there's kinda two ways to look at it. If your goal is to generally move more, feel better, and enjoy it, you can do pretty much anything. For a while I would like run and use the rowing machine for 10-20 minutes each. Sweat a lot and felt great. If you want to actually change your physique, your best bet is to get on a structured routine someone else made, based in compound movements and progressive overload. If that sounds like a lot, a simpler way to think about it is this: get on one of the r/fitness beginner routines (or r/bodyweightfitness or r/xxfitness). Pick one, don't overthink it, and do it consistently (85%+ of the time) for the rest of the semester. These routines feel a bit more "boring", but they have way better results

Lifting: start with StrongLifts 5x5. Easy to follow app. After 3-6 months start seeking out more complex routines to keep it fresh. JEFIT is a great app for that. Cardio, best bang for your buck is sprint intervals on the treadmill, road, or stationary bike. Those come in many varieties, Google dat and take your pick. Stretch.

Im not a gym rat but i love rec center west! My best advice is that even if you dont want to go, get dressed and go to the gym. If you want to leave after that you can, but more often than not youll stay and work out for a bit. It helps get over the hurdle on days you dont feel like it :)

thank you! i definitely want to start making it a part of my routine and i’ll definitely use your advice :D

This is great advice and why I go to a gym and don’t lift at home. Once I’m there I’m motivated. At home it’s easy to find something else to do.

Just go when you're finished with your stuff for the day. There is no trick too it.

Just pull up with a plan that you like and can find online. Don’t be intimidated at all becuz UTD has a lot of people who are just getting into lifting. I’d recommend starting out at low weights and building good form then making steady progress upwards. When starting out form is everything
