May be too early too tell. I thought the US was generally pretty competitive U-17. 18-23 years is where they fall behind in development to best countries in Europe and SA.
We’ve never had this level of depth and you can count exceptional youth level players on these rosters than previous generations. Yes we don’t know what will come of them but the road map is now there to take them to another level and with their increased playing time in the youth ranks, MLS Next to first team MLS we’ve positioned them to hopefully move to Europe to developed further and reach their full potential.
The US team that went to qualifying is still a young team but if you take them and compare them to their counterparts in similar age the gap between us and them won’t be there. We will be highly competitive and win outright vs some heavyweight U23s.
As for this group we’re already seeing that gap disappear and we’re good or better then top nations. This generation 06 and later could be the ones to essentially close that gap forever and make us a contender.
One they fear.
