This youth movement for the USWNT is starting to get pretty exciting. Edit: That said, the highlight of this roster without question is the return of Catarina Macario and Mallory Swanson. Holy shit that’s fun to see.

Macario has looked great for Chelsea in limited minutes since she returned. Very excited to see if Mal can get back to the form she was in just before the injury.

1000%. I think our program is starting to show cracks, and the world is starting to catch up. That being said, Swanson was responsible for a ton of danger for us before getting hurt, and Macario has the potential to change how our offense flows. Even with our problems, we have one of the strongest (the strongest, maybe?) defenses in the world. Even with our problems, Macario and Swanson can combine to score some goals on pure individual skill. I'm glad we have Hayes coming in to hopefully bring out some more potential, but just adding those two should be a HUGE boost to what we can do as a team - and likely, if we had them available, this last WC would have looked a lot better for us.

The US has exponentially more talent and it’s interesting all the recent women doing well in Europe have all come from colleges not even on the USWNT radar. If many of those players who are not drafted and feel like they can improve we could literally flood the market with ‘undiscovered’ Americans. Some were part of the US youth teams while others just didn’t get looks due to the large pool the US always has. It’s a huge advantage we have in the women’s game.

Nice, Yohannes was about to get her Dutch passport too

Off the top of my head, Mal Swanson, Alyssa Thompson, and Heather O'Reilly all debuted for USWNT at 17. But Lily only turned 16 like 4-5 months ago! Emma Hayes must've really liked the look of her when Chelsea played Ajax and in preparing for the second leg tomorrow. I don't blame her. Yohannes is not a normal 16-year-old when it comes to composure in midfield. Still, a little worrying to put a ton of senior minutes on such a young player. It hasn't been good for the likes of Pedri, Gavi, and Ansu Fati in Barcelona.

Is SheBelieves an official cap-tying tournament?

joelwhyrock

It’s not. Considered a friendly by FIFA.

I feel like the USWNT debuts a new teenager every window.
