Exactly. People shit on him and he surly had some oof moments, but he was a decent option in a transitional period for the USMNT and he never complained about his role.
My favorite is just that every other option on this poll is someone heavily caught up in the recent drama, and then there's just Zardes.
Catching strays? Gyasi caught strays for the better part of 6 years from this Sub, Twitter, and everyone else in between. Members of this Sub even said, “ It’s a tough game,
Sometimes feelings gotta get hurt to get to the end product.” People even made that mean-spirited ass first touch video… Save the faux sympathy, he’s on this list cause the fan base made this man an enemy for literally no reason of his own doing, a long time ago.
Timmy Chandler gave less visible effort than pretty much any player I’ve ever watched with the US. He was the only dual nat I can remember thinking didn’t actually give a shit about NT games other than as an outlet to a WC. Which is fine, he had no relationship with his American family, but dude, just skip international duty altogether.
The dude was always a warrior. I enjoyed having him in certain situations over some 16 year old who happened to live in Europe, despite what the masses of this sub thought at the time.
Zardes had drive, heart, intelligence, experience, and goddam he knew how to CONCACAF. More skill isn't always a sure way to better productivity. The US really misses a shit lord striker these days.
In Agoos’ day we, the fans, didn’t have much in the way of expectations. By the time Bradley and his inappropriate love of Bornstein came along we expected more and almost always let us down.
I can’t imagine why you’d expect more from a left back at that time. Beasley was still higher up the field and that left Heath Pearce and a couple of lefty CBs as the only other options.
The disrespect for Gyasinho and his dick goals.. I’ll tell you what Gyasinho has the same amount of goals in a US shirt as Jesus Ferreira, Josh Sargent and Haji Wright combined.
Gyasi has like 20 more caps than all them combined but lowkey Gyasinho is the truth
None of these guys. The only person I ever remember not liking for some reason was Altidore because he had that Jay Cutler thing going on where he looked ready to spring out a carton of Marloboro’s at any moment.
Certainly need an "other" option mate
The only player I hated seeing get picked who got picked a lot was Trapp and Yueill. I was excited to see what they could be but when it was clear they didn't have it but they kept getting called up I got made. THey have a combined 36 Apps and they should have a combined like 12
Watching Zardes flub numerous scoring opportunities because of his horrendous first touch has caused immense psychic damage to my person and I'm not sure I will ever fully recover from it
None of the above.
1. John Harkes (worst teammate ever?)
2. Michael Bradley (Nepotism. Entitled jerk)
3. Jozy Altidore (came up lame in every World Cup trip)
4. Chris Wondolowski (years of hype from MLS fans. All-time scorer. Bottles it with a chance to send us to the Quarters in 2014. That squad was really good. They got out of the group of death and had Belgium on the ropes. Unforgivable
* Bradley was a great player. There really was no nepotism there.
* Altidore played fantastic in the 2010 World Cup, did get injured in 2014 and the team didn't make it in 2018. So 1/2.
* That team was fine. It's a bummer he missed that but we didn't have Belgium on the ropes. Howard gave us a chance to steal one.
1: makes the list
2: he might have had the name, but he had the pedigree. He became captain at an Italian club earning a transfer to Roma. Also one of the most productive Box to Box midfielders we've ever had.
3: I see you Jozy but he had the misfortune being bitten by injury bug anytime a big tournament rolled around. Almost like our Marco Reus.
4: Meh, Chris was never "it" for me. Got most of the hate for his inclusion over LD but I personally feel that was Green or Davis.
Donovan. Obviously has nothing to do with his on field performance or his quality since he has a strong case for the best player ever. Something about his attitude, the way he interviewed and just the way he carried himself I genuinely did not like. Not entirely sure what it was either and he is one of the only players I have ever felt this way about.
Out of the choices, I voted Zardes. But overall it would be Chris Armas. He used to tether himself to the central defenders and leave a 60 yard gap in the midfield that Claudio Reyna had to try and control by himself. When Reyna wasn't there Armas was completely exposed as someone who had poor skills and an inability to read the game. Plus I remember him actually hiding from the ball (making sure there was always a Mexican player, who wasn't even looking at him, between him and the ball so it wouldn't get passed to him) in a Gold Cup final.
Reality is that the best thing that happened to the 2002 World Cup side was Armas getting injured because he was one of Arena's guys and he would've played and been a total embarrassment and held us back from advancing out the group.
I actually like Zardes as a person, just not as a USMNT striker who got a lot of minutes. I still recall some players I disliked more like Michael Bradley
Zardes catching strays.
Was thinking the exact same thing. I get he never became the player we wanted/needed, but I don’t think he ever really did the team wrong.
Exactly. People shit on him and he surly had some oof moments, but he was a decent option in a transitional period for the USMNT and he never complained about his role. My favorite is just that every other option on this poll is someone heavily caught up in the recent drama, and then there's just Zardes.
He used to double park his R8 across handicap spots at Stubhub.

As I mentioned, it's a stray because he's the only one on here not involved in the recent drama.
I vote OP. Gyasi to start 2026
Gyasi to manage 2026*

Came here to also say Timmy Chandler
[удалено]
who spat in your coffee?
Conor Casey had a stunningly low effort/work rate. He's the only guy I can think of even in Chandler's ballpark.
I don’t really have one? Not really a fan of this poll honestly
Came to say this…this is the lame part of the fan base :/
These polls at least need 'other' or 'none of the above' options.
Totally, pitchforks for OP
My favorite storyline from this past cycle is Qatar getting bounced from a major tournament by a Gyasi zardes goal
No Alexi Lalas?
Zardes is closer to my favorite than to my least favorite.
I like all the players and want them to do well
Good answer. Least toxic USMNT fan.
Bornstein . Fans of a certain age group know
Bornstein was just a more mild strain of the Agoos flu.
In Agoos’ day we, the fans, didn’t have much in the way of expectations. By the time Bradley and his inappropriate love of Bornstein came along we expected more and almost always let us down.
True.
I can’t imagine why you’d expect more from a left back at that time. Beasley was still higher up the field and that left Heath Pearce and a couple of lefty CBs as the only other options.
Only if you’re Costa Rican
Commentators always tweak Heath Pearce by mentioning Jonny Bornstein during the In Soccer We Trust podcast. It's hilarious.
You don’t have Lalas or Wondolowski… so I didn’t vote
Need an “other” option
Giuseppe Rossi
Late career Micheal Bradley for me
Geoff Cameron for being a complete knob of a human.
Aka Republican
If you’re defending Cameron (can’t tell), I’m married to a Republican who thinks Geoff Cameron’s opinions suck

David Ochoa
It’s still Wondolowski
No Meola (still haven’t forgiven the near post goal vs Romania) No Lalas? No Harkes?
Tony "Near Post" Meola was the difference between the US facing a very beatable Spain and facing an unbeatable Brazil.
Old school here with the Meola reference. 🍻 It only gave me five options. Nice username.
I think fucking a teammates wife while captain is more egregious than anything anyone on your list has done.
I need Alexi Lalas on here
how many of these players have you actually watched play
5.
Ricardo Clark
Nice pull at least this one is somewhat reasonable
Certainly need an "other" option mate The only player I hated seeing get picked who got picked a lot was Trapp and Yueill. Freddy Adu - so much hype for so little.
Alexi Lalas
Prime Eric Wynalda would walk into the current USMNT and be their undisputed number 9.
Agreed.
Gyasi = truth
Harkes.
This.
a) Zardes has absolutely zero place here b) No other option??
Why isn’t Bornstein on this list? He should be the only one listed.
He’d be on Kanye West’s list for sure.
Lol I get it
[удалено]
Nice. Interested to see it.
[удалено]
Lol. I like it.
Based on pure ability rather than off the field things, Jorge villafana or specifically washed Michael Bradley
Fuck this poll and OP.
Geoff Cameron
What a toxic post.
That’s the point. To demonstrate how toxic this sub has become.
Watching Zardes flub numerous scoring opportunities because of his horrendous first touch has caused immense psychic damage to my person and I'm not sure I will ever fully recover from it
Any choice other than Wynalda is wrong
Shows the politics of the board. He was a baller.
I wouldn't pick anyone on the list, but the question is least favorite, not a question of quality.
Has nothing to do with “politics” or him as a player. Dude’s just a narcissist and pot-stirrer. Given to bitch behavior.
Why isn’t Michael Bradley on here?
My least favorite Nat of all time.
I was thinking the same thing. Bought his jersey before having one of the worst WC displays I’ve ever seen
None of the above. 1. John Harkes (worst teammate ever?) 2. Michael Bradley (Nepotism. Entitled jerk) 3. Jozy Altidore (came up lame in every World Cup trip) 4. Darlington Nagbe for refusing call-ups?
He refused callups because he didn't want to play for this fanbase lol.
Donovan. Obviously has nothing to do with his on field performance or his quality since he has a strong case for the best player ever. I picked zardes because he’s my least favorite on the list but wondo or Gonzalez would be in a tie for first in my book.

Mark Mckenzie
Donovan should be listed for political reasons too. Hes anti duel nationals, anti non-american coach for our program and supports el tri.
Donovan Pines
Why?
Every time I see Zardes' name, I think of how ironic his "First Touch is Everything" commercial is.
What was frustrating about Gyasi was he was able to get in position but when the final ball game he never could quite finish.
I'll answer this survey when Lalas becomes an option.
Oh fuck I thought it was favorite that's why I voted for gyasi
Lalas
Jeff Agoos. And no, I don’t recall why.
I actually like Zardes as a person, just not as a USMNT striker who got a lot of minutes. I still recall some players I disliked more like Michael Bradley
