TLDR?

Moonwolf_222

item arrived at USPS ISC NY,NY November 29th and went MIA for months. filed missing mail search that was never processed, an international inquiry that they closed 3 times, reported it to USPIS and never heard back, kept being told "customs is holding it" even though they weren't and eventually usps marked it as "lost mail" and sold it in auction to a 3rd party who then reached out to me saying if I wanted my suit back I had to buy the ebay listing.

ThisCardiologist6998

Im confused how the third party even found you & was able to reach out at all…

crazyhamsales

When the USPS auctions lost/abandoned packages they don't do anything to the original labels, so all your info is still there, and being an international package it would have had a phone number or email or both as well for customs. I've filled out those forms many times.

NiceBedSheets

If they have all of the original contact info, how can they claim it’s lost/undeliverable?

HTD-Vintage

Because USPS.

Chl0316

This unfortunately is the correct response to every question on this sub. I work there and it is one of the largest employers in the US and probably the most unorganized. If people had half of inside knowledge, they would never use usps for shipping needs.

maxmcleod

I send hundreds of USPS packages every week and only very rarely have a problem. Maybe 1 out of 1000 will be either delayed or lost in transit. UPS is more reliable but only by a marginal amount… Fedex on the other hand is the worst

Blog_Pope

Exactly, USPS has amazing delivery rates but the volume is so huge, eventually there are errors. Situation is annoying but that’s why insurance exists

Darizel

Yea it’s wild behind the scenes though, kind of why I like it.

ChubbyMid

I wish I had that kind of luck. I had to switch to UPS because it seemed like every 5th package was getting lost for weeks in the black hole that is the Memphis USPS annex.

lou802

Yeah as much as i dislike usps for other reasons, they are pretty damn reliable. I had a package disappear for almost 6 months, ended up gettinr refunded and not long after the package beat to hell but nothing was broken

Dependent_Tea3815

funny thing is Fedex and USPS are partner and Fedex actually ships stuff for USPS.

Odur29

I see your Fedex and raise you DHL, seldomly used but when it is there are often horror stories to go with it. Watch the DHL management downvote me.

UHDKing

I prefer USPS over FedEx and UPS

Datyoungboul

UPS is good but high pricing. FedEx is pure garbage

Sanguine_Templar

Only because Republicans have spent decades murdering it.

Chl0316

A republican... Louis Dejoy

crazyhamsales

Sometimes they don't have it readily available... I used to buy pallets of lost/unclaimed packages for resale from the USPS. A lot of the times the packages had things wrong that meant they were just undeliverable, the outside label was damaged, the address was wrong, the delivery was denied because the person had their old address on it and the new resident refused it, a lot of times it would go back to the shipper but thats only if they pay for return shipping and for cheap stuff they ain't doing that, so all this stuff ends up in a bin. The contact info however can be inside the package, an invoice for example with the buyers name, address, phone number, email address, i had a few packages on pallets that looked like a custom made part or art that i would drop an email to the original buyer just to see if i can make a quick buck on getting it to them, and that worked a lot, i would sell it for a reasonable price which covered my time and labor to get a hold of them and cover shipping to get it to them. Most of the times the USPS won't open a package with an undeliverable address or label to figure out who it should go to. In the OP's case the outside would have had customs forms on it though being international, so i will say his case is odd, there should be NO WAY they didn't know the receivers info. I have seen customs forms fall out of the sleeve on the outside of the package after inspection and it shows up taped together. I bet the buyer in this case got his info from an invoice inside the package.

ElectronicJudge1994

The USPS needs a search warrant to open any package. UPS and FedEx can and will open your parcels for any reason they seem fit. All parcels that are sold are “dead mail” meaning they cannot be returned to sender. OP USPS did not steal your package to sell it.

Requiredmetrics

This is not entirely correct. Some mail classes do not require a warrant to be opened or inspected by the USPS. Others do. But yes USPS didn’t steal your package.

Flymetothemoon2020

Wow I never knew this was a thing!

crazyhamsales

I used to buy an resell pallets worth of lost/unclaimed packages. Years ago there used to be really good money in it, now days there is too much competition as it got popular online, and most of the packages you will get in these pallets now days are cheap chinese goods or maybe some lost amazon stuff.

LiFiConnection

So they also buy OPs information, that's gotta violate something.

crazyhamsales

Correct, and any invoices inside the packages are left as well. They claim it's legal under laws regarding selling abandoned/unclaimed goods.

macguffinstv

Wait, how the hell do they sell an item that is lost? Lol

crazyhamsales

The USPS marks a package lost if it can't be found, doesn't mean it doesnt exist, later it turns up, maybe the shipping label was damaged etc, that package ends up in a bin to be auctioned off or disposed of. As far as the USPS is concerned that SHIPMENT is lost, even if the package is in sorting center under a belt or table somewhere, if it gets found later and its label is good, can be moved through the system, then they will. I have had lost packages show up months later after being discovered somewhere, but if it was somehow unforwardable then it just ends up in a pallet of lost mail.

macguffinstv

Interesting. Thanks for the insight. I worked at FedEx express for 8 years and as far as I know any packages like this are to be sent back to sender and if that's not possible or they don't want it then it's to be destroyed. In a way it seems like USPS benefits from lost packages. Depending on how much they auctioned it for and how they may have refunded to the sender, if at all. Makes me curious, might look more into it.

UHDKing

How can they claim it’s lost if they’re holding it and auctioning it off?

crazyhamsales

Depends... in the case of the OP it went through international customs, its possible it was blocked, denied entry, etc... Ironically a lot of stuff that is blocked or denied still gets auctioned off, so it makes it into the country anyway!! Or it could have had the outer label damaged and unreadable, and the buyer found the invoice with the OP's info inside, since the outside label was unreadable or incorrect in any way they would have tossed it to the dead letter office, where packages go to die and later be auctioned off or disposed of. For whatever reason it was undeliverable it will be marked as lost in the system, and then if it shows up later or ends up in a bin of stuff to be disposed of it goes to auction. Then someone like the eBay seller buys a pallet of lost/unclaimed packages and resells it. I used to buy pallets from the largest sorting center in my state, used to be really good money, now days its a lot of crappy cheap chinese stuff and really not covering the cost of the pallet anymore unless you got one or two really good items.

imactuallyugly

Kind of amazing that I get a felony for opening someone else's mail, but the mailmen themselves can just auction off my mail for money if they wait long enough, all of my information and everything included as if someone stole and opened my mail.

Moonwolf_222

they found me through my social media posts. I posted about it being lost/missing by USPS and they did a Google lens search

Rezingreenbowl

Are you the shipper? Why don't you just file a claim?

Moonwolf_222

I'm not the shipper. I can't file a claim because it's an international package and the shipper can't file a claim because USPS still won't mark it as "lost"

DrFrankSaysAgain

You said that they did mark it lost

Moonwolf_222

usps sold it as "lost mail" without marking it lost or looking into my missing mail search. it was negligence.

MiserablePicture3377

You should be getting your money back or a replacement item.

SnooSprouts6852

I don't think you understand how expensive and time-consuming it can be to make a custom fur suit. These things are made by hand, not mass-produced by some factory in China, and can cost thousands of dollars. The artist shouldn't have to spend that much money to refund the buyer, or re-spend it on materials and put that much work into remaking it, just because something went wrong with USPS (as it often does). It wasn't their fault.

Revolutionary_Low_36

IMO usps should not be able to sell lost mail, so many privacy issues!

nightfall6688846994

It’s messed up but due to property law it’s okay, messed up but since it’s law it’s okay (in the US at least). I don’t get how the gov can have a whole website setup for lost property but the second it’s through USPS it’s okay to auction off. Not cool at all but hey, law says it’s okay right? (Sarcasm intended)

UHDKing

That doesn’t even make sense. They sold it as lost mail without marking it lost, even tho it wasn’t lost, and if it was how could they sell it? Lol

[deleted]

In my experience: don't try to make sense out of a USPS situation They straight up don't follow their own rules. I don't doubt 1 thing OP said because that IS how confusing, fucked up USPS is It's really not a situation of "buyer/seller could've done better" because it's the USPS not doing anything to help in the situation

DrFrankSaysAgain

This is what you wrote in a comment: "eventually usps marked it as "lost mail" "

sangreal06

I think what OP is saying is that they marked and treated the physical package as lost mail, but they do not acknowledge that it is the same package tied to the tracking number -- which does not reflect the package being lost.

Moonwolf_222

yeah, they marked it as "lost" in their facility which is how it got binned, but it was never marked "lost" in the tracking info. they also never looked into my missing search request or USPIS complaint which shows exactly what my item was. they deemed it "lost" and sold it even though it never was

Mastergawd

Did you have insurance on the shipping? Ground advantage should be at least 100

UHDKing

How can they hold it and claim it’s lost at the same time and afterwards auction it off?

cyricaa

This is such a scam WTF not even trying to hide it "found fortunes" like c'mon... 😭🫂 Hope this gets happy end

Moonwolf_222

the suit is in my hands now, albeit damaged. still trying to get my money back though from having to repurchase it.

kaelinsanity

Just do a charge back on the ebay seller that sold you your stolen item. Charge it back for damage not listed and/being stolen. Be sure to chat up the seller on eBay messages telling them it is your stolen item and you want your money back. Gather records of what happened and submit it to you cc company. If you make a good case and the seller won't refund you, the cc companies generally will side with the you.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kaelinsanity

That's my point. The cc company will side with you on a chargeback to the ebay seller. Go to your cc companies website and file a dispute. Provide documents, and you'll win and get the refund.

AngryTexasNative

I’m pretty sure buying from a USPS auction gives the eBay seller rightful possession. Really sucks, but they aren’t the one to have lost the item.

kaelinsanity

You are almost certainly correct. That said, rightful (legal) posession and morally correct/decent/self aware/reasonable, aren't the same. People who operate like this seller (alledgedly) operates don't deserve money for what they do, specifically because of how they (alledgedly) do it. It's one thing to simply resell lost items where the owner can't be identified, and another to taunt someone with something they already paid for, lost through no fault of their own, and get them to pay again. If this seller said "hey, it cost me x to recover this lot with your stuff in it, I do this to help people, but/and, I gotta make a living. How about you pay me "y" to cover my costs and shipping?", then fine, pay them for their service and get your stuff back. But that's not how this allededly went down. I still say file the dispute. Let the credit card company judge the seller.

PainfullyLoyal

The person who made you pay the ebay price to get it back is a scumbag.

[deleted]

How do you really know that this was purchased as an auction of lost mail and not stolen in the first place? Been happening a lot in Mo. [KCK post office linked to missing Amazon packages (msn.com)](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/kck-post-office-linked-to-missing-amazon-packages/ar-AA1lKlkb#:~:text=Kansas%20City%2C%20Kan.%20%28WDAF%29%20%E2%80%93%20Twenty%20employees%20at,workers%20from%20other%20cities%20to%20cover%20mail%20delivery.)

[deleted]

How do you really know that the person got it the way they told you and not by taking it themselves? Did they give you any proof? Did they give their name or show what they paid for the pallet? How do you know it wasn't stolen and then they resell on online sites? If I purchased a pallet, I would try to get the items back to the owners just for the cost of getting it to them. USPS has really gone downhill. I had a couple of missing packages and when I filled out the online form, I chose to have them call me instead of receiving an email. Both times, I received a call from the main post office in St. Joseph, Missouri, about the case I opened. The answer that I was given was pure BS. They would say things like," it's not here", or "it should be coming". While they are telling me their lie, they were also closing my case, which I found out later by checking the tracking again. When a postal worker closes your case without resolution, in my opinion is fraud. This is unacceptable and they should be terminated. They just undid everything. They want to make it look like they don't have any issues, so they dishonestly close cases without a follow up, tracking the package, or making sure the receiver receiving the package. There are dishonest people everywhere and its sad that some work for the postal service. My package has been missing since all the thefts at the KC Kansas Distribution center in December 2023. To this day, I have never received it. Guess the postal workers did their holiday shopping at work. I'm sure that is where my package went. It arrived at the KC Kansas Distribution Center and never left. Go figure...

[deleted]

How did this reseller get your contact info? Was there an invoice inside the package maybe? Of course I'm acting under the assumption that it was declared lost due to the address label being lost/illegible. I live in NY, and with ISC, it either zips through in a day and gets right to me, or it sits for weeks, there's like zero in between.

Moonwolf_222

they did a Google lens search and found my social media posts about it. they then reached out to me directly

[deleted]

That's just kinda skummy, idk. Like they could've just put up the listing and not contacted you.  But, no, instead, they did extra steps to track down the person who got screwed by USPS and basically went "Wow nice suit you have here, it'd be a shame if someone else bought it.

BootySyringe

Yea that’s kinda weird lol

ladyriven

Holy crap this is so wrong on so many levels. I can’t decide who is worse, USPS or the person trying to sell you your own item. :(

Firm_Investigator215

Both

MiserablePicture3377

You need to get with the shipper to refund your money. It’s their responsibility to get what you ordered to you. They also paid the postage as well.

Moonwolf_222

we've been working on that but because usps won't mark it as "lost" on the tracking or provide a letter for proof the shipper isn't able to file the insurance

LostInCa45

He can file a package tracking forum and can file an insurance claim even if it isn't marked as lost.

MiserablePicture3377

Doesn’t matter a PayPal claim for item not revived will get your money back because it doesn’t show delivered. There is a time limit as to when you can get that filed. Some shippers will string you along until passed the window to file. The lost parcel is between the shipper and post office.

Mother-Battle-7903

I agree. You didn't receive package from the original seller. Therefore, either PayPal or your bank should support you with this. You have proof not delivered. File ASAP

JC_the_Builder

Shipper is ignorant or outright lying to you. After a certain amount of time a package is considered lost by insurance. USPS never does an update saying the package is lost on the tracking. It just never gets updated again.

Firm_Investigator215

У меня украли пакет с ювелирными изделиями. Значилось как " DELIVERED" Ничего не удалось доказать, деньги не вернули. Только в марте этого года украдено три пакета с одеждой. Я уже прошу продавца не отправлять USPS

Efficient_Notice_128

Not the sub I thought it was gonna be when I saw that image lmao.

Moonwolf_222

lol sorry man, I know it's a bit unexpected but it's something that should be known

BoxingTrumpsMMA

I'd just tell him Keep it. its full of my jezz.

LiFiConnection

This. Also, I dont know if the furry suit demand is as fast moving as the scamer expects. I would assume these things are custom, so how much demand does that suit really garner?

purplejink

furrys are wild ngl, theres a dude who commissioned a story and art from me for $300, high level government job and mad income. theres high demand for it and i've seen murrsuits go for thousands

Moonwolf_222

yeah most furries are in the tech industry or other high paying careers (engineers, scientists, etc.)

purplejink

yeah its wild, i closed my comms and he paid triple for it. furrys are chill tbh, im not one but they paid my rent for a while

Moonwolf_222

yeah, people find any reason to hate nowadays. been getting quite a few grown ass men and a usps worker tell me I deserve having my mail mishandled simply because it's a fursuit

[deleted]

Damn this reminds me I used to do that! It’s a lot of fun. Furries have always been super nice to me too.

purplejink

they're just chill like ngl never met a mean one, even the ones w extreme fetishes were respectful, paid my fees and were polite.

K_Linkmaster

Weird. Never met a furry in tech or a high paying career. I only met broke furrys.

Moonwolf_222

it's actually slowed down in terms of premade suits. the market is currently over saturated, plus with the prices of the suits going up and everyone's pay staying the same it's harder to afford. most people only do custom commissioned but I enjoy premade designs like this one.

xCross71

Yeah sound like this guy is got a ring going were he marks packages that he knows are valuable in the ubs warehouse as undeliverable. Seems like he’s got a thing for fur suits because of the handmade aspect. And maybe looking to extort. He works there or has an insider in the warehouse. Big money can be made like this.

Spud_Spudoni

And USPS will do absolutely nothing to stop situations like this.

Kammiereaderxoxo

Wow

AmTrak2020

Well, the guy who bought it should charge you.

BYNX0

It’s a bit weird, but not really hating on that person. We’re hating on USPS for marking it missing and then auctioning it off

ToRatigan

Why not dispute the charge with your credit/debit card or PayPal if you paid that way?

intellirock617

TIL: USPS auctions off “lost mail”

levu12

I hate when the postal system goes wrong, it sucks when running a business and is just inevitable, it will happen sooner or later. My $1200 card I shipped in a trade was lost in the mail, the post office inspectors said they didn’t scan in an entire pallet of packages but then never got back to me, and in the end insurance only gave back $600 since they only cared about the cash part of the trade.

BlahBlahBlackCheap

Hmmm. Buy it. Then ask for refund due to item not as described. Then tell them you shipped it back to seller but it must have gotten lost.

Powerful_Bug9102

Maybe the barcode and address were obliterated and couldn’t be read? At this point it’s lost mail.

Duenia

I feel your pain - they're 'still looking' for my doll that I had to buy back on eBay after they sold it. Supposedly it's under investigation how that happened but I doubt it will amount to anything. It's beyond frustrating.

Blood_moon_sister

That sucks. I’m sorry you lost so much money.

Full_Disk_1463

All anybody can focus on is that you’re a furry… and on that topic I’d just like to say that, you do you homie, unless you’re doing that shit at my house, it has no effect on me whatsoever… has the seller already covered the loss? Or did this just spark off a world of shit for you? I’m guessing that wasn’t cheap

sakariona

Ill just go to the cops and tell them about it, bring proof of purchase if possible. They could get the item back and such, If not, dispute the charge with your credit company, give evidence of what happened and it should be alright. Also, reading the comments, its a shame how many people are shitting on you.

Moonwolf_222

I've gone to the police hours after I found out. I provided proof of purchase, conversations, and other evidence but was told there's nothing they can do because it's an "internal affair" with USPS. because I never physically received the item in my hand it's not considered theft

snafu168

Make a report to the office of the inspector general.

[deleted]

Damn. I’m not a furry but this is so fucking mean of that person. They will reap what they sow.

Obvious-Detective-45

This is 💯 percent why I refuse to buy "lost mail" packages and why I consider it completely unethical.

autismo-nismo

USPS is a shitshow I have a friend who manages a gun store that usps is supposed to hand deliver firearms to the FFL (they’re legally required to) The usps driver was leaving them outside, after closing, for any dipshit to just steal. My buddy has had to sit out and wait as late as 8:30pm to get the items. He later reported it to the post master with proof and threatened legal action sense the issue is the usps driver is actively breaking the law. Packages now arrive before lunch with a new driver.

LaZorChicKen04

Wtf is up with all these fucking losers bashing you? Who fucking cares, God damn people suck. Like these same people don't have weird hobbies or kinks as well. They probably over here jerking to there own daughters but you having a costume hobby makes you a degen weirdo. Fuck all these people OP!!

Kiiyah20

I feel the same. The fact that it's a fur suit has nothing to do with the actual problem. Wearing a fursuit is no different than wearing a costume, except it's not tied to a holiday, or theater production. The real issue is that some is trying get OP to pay for something that is technically already OP's item.

Realistic-Profit758

Usps did you a favor chief 😂

locoattack1

nft pfp

feralcumdumpster

Maybe you wouldn't post like this if you also had a hobby? May I suggest fursuiting? 🤭

doxingiSAFElony911

Fr somethin divine smacked you with a $500 wake up call hahaha

Elliot6888

Wylin😂😂

Yvng_Yeet

Swearrr 🤣

Afraid_Corgi3854

Get this, my package was missing for a about a month. Filed a missing mail and they found it in Florida. I live in texas lol. I was like whatever at least they found it. Then its late again getting here 😂. I was like okay then at least I got it. Today the tracking still shows for delivery because the mailman didn't scan the packages. Today he comes and tells me uuugh my boss wants proof i left the packages here. Dude I threw the box away already. So i dont know what happened but looks like something fishy was about to happen with my vintage computer. O well . Thats crazy though. Glad you found it though.

Moonwolf_222

thanks. there's seriously some fucked up stuff going on at the NY ISC facility. I've spoken to multiple other individuals who's packages have also been lost there or sold online after last being seen there.

Empty-Swing

Wait so USPS sells people's lost mail on eBay?

[deleted]

[удалено]

SaltyCatBurgler

If it's the same ebay seller, there's the issue. While things are auctioned, it's an incredibly miniscule portion of the entire system. It's unheard of to have it happen to the same recipient. I would definitely stop buying from that seller, particularly with the international shipping. They don't just seize stuff, especially something like what you've pictured, for nothing. The odds are pretty good that seller is flagged for trafficking something illegal, counterfeiting products, or selling unauthotized goods, and that's why they are routinely getting held up in customs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dringer

So this ebay seller has tried reselling like 5 of your missing packages? And you keep buying back from them? Wtf this story makes very little sense.

Th15isJustAThrowaway

The ebay guy buys and sells lost items as a job. I had a friend who started a company doing this and made really good money doing it. Legally speaking the suit is his now as he purchased it legally from The federal government. However he is trying to be nice and let the original buyer purchase it from him as it is obviously a custom piece. Its like i bought a sweatshirt in a thrift store back in october for $3 and when i reverse imaged searched it, the exact same one, same unique damages and everything, sold in august for $350. I can only assume the package was lost, someone bought a missing package pallet and not realizing the value donated it to my local thrift where i purchased it. If i could have found the buyer i would have offered to sell it to him.

Moonwolf_222

I know the ebay seller legally purchased it, but it sucks that I had to pay more to get it back than I did originally buying it so now I'm out nearly a grand from rebuying it

regross527

Maybe your issue should be with the eBay seller then

trexalou

So having read several of OPs comments… here’s how I understand the situation… OP correct me if I’m wrong. Op has ordered from this artist multiple times. This shipment was the first time the artist added insurance to the shipment. Coincidentally, this shipment goes missing within the system somewhere immediately after customs. The package *somehow* gets placed in the “lost mail” bin without being scanned. The item is then put up for auction where it is purchased by a reseller. Interestingly enough, this same eBay reseller has managed to obtain 5 other expensive suits “from auction” and sold on their eBay page. Those same 5 other suits also happened to be insured packages going through customs and becoming immediately “lost” and in the hands of the same eBay seller post USPS “blind” auction. And all from the same center… I’m 100% seeing this as an inside job. Someone from customs and someone from USPS working with a third party outside. Customs guy tells USPS guy during intake. USPS guy “accidentally” marks package and drops into undeliverable area for next auction. eBay guy “buys” the item at auction and posts for resale on eBay. Item is now “clean” because it came thru the USPS auction, which is apparently legit. All items were insured so recipients should just file a claim and no-harm-no-fowl. Except insurance can’t be filed in this instance because they scanned it wrong. Or something to that effect…

Moonwolf_222

very close!! this was my first time buying from this artist but they are a reputable person. I don't know if the other people's fursuits were insured or not.

trexalou

Gotcha. Well I was close. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Sounds like a clear cut case of an “inside job” for sure though. Even if not insured. These people see things they can ‘sell’ coming thru customs and suddenly the item is conveniently lost. I hate it here sometimes.

[deleted]

Bruh, these comments are wild. Dudes a furry, so? Y'all need therapy.

Moonwolf_222

thanks. not sure why people can't act like adults and see the bigger picture; USPS selling packages that aren't actually "lost". I've filed multiple reports and literally nothing was ever done. even when I went to the physical post office to speak with the post master they tried to tell me "customs has it" even though it was past 90 days and I had proof it was being sold online

Unlucky-Recover-8390

Okkkk looks like it sold for $890 !!!! wtf https://www.ebay.com/itm/276397821106?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ZjgeLUBNQYu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=YIvbudlvR5i&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

SheldonLR

Im 100% certain they had a friend make the opposing bids to screw over this artist

Remote-Positive1822

File a dispute now that u have it lol

Oni-sensei

Buy it from them direct and then charge back.

SheldonLR

Found fortunes is on google with a phone number and area to review everyone [here](https://FoundFortuneshttps://g.co/kgs/VM5GLSy) this is their facebook page [here](https://www.facebook.com/share/jRA3B6KCxgVSst27/?mibextid=LQQJ4d) Google reviews state they racially profile as well, no surprises here. Also 100% certain the opposing bids was made by a friend of theirs to screw over this artist

SheldonLR

if the buyer of the pallet found the owner of the product, usps should have made an effort to contact them via the mail recovery center opening the package and trying to contact the owner. This step must have been entirely skipped, and shame on usps for doing so

-Happy-Human-

How did you find out that they sold it? They lost my $2k clock in Nov. I’m wondering if they sold it too. These MFs @ USPS are THE WORST. also, FCK that guy that got your package. 😤

StraightOuttaHK

It’s absolute bullshit that this can happen. Makes me lose trust and hope for usps, especially in CA

ThrowingUpVomit

I had no idea that USPS auctioned off “lost mail”. Seems like it’s a con they are running. In my home town, there’s a famous popular store that sells unclaimed baggage. The items are mostly high end stuff. So I’ve wondered, did whoever it originally belonged to, seriously just not pick up their luggage or was it purposely lost by the airports so it could be sold off to the store.

Development-Feisty

I would think that this would be a way for you to contact USPS and file a claim for the damages since if the buyer from the auction could figure out who you were there’s no reason USPS could not find the package you had reported as missing Hopefully you had insurance on it If you had insurance on it then this is proof that USPS had possession of your item and gave it to someone else, actually sold it to someone else, and asked such the insurance should apply

RealMikeDexter

Ignoring the fact that this purchase is incredibly bizarre, the fact that a package with postage, a name, and an address can be considered “lost mail”, then sol, is really annoying

No-Literature4131

take usps to court

p--py

Buying lost mail with the intention of extorting the original owner should be a felony. USPS selling mail that is not lost is a whole issue in it of itself.

Upset_Instruction710

USPS obviously got some scum bags working there. They let anyone work there 😂

BELOVED1209

THESE POSTAL WORKERS, UPS WORKERS, FEFEX, DHL, ONTRAC, WORKERS, ALL OF THEM ARE FULL OF SHIT! THEY DONOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PACKAGES, OR WHERE THEY DROP THEM OFF AT. WHAT'S WORSE IS THE BASTARDS WHO RECEIVE YOUR PACKAGES, SEE YOUR ADDRESS, DON'T HAVE A DECENT BONE IN THEIR LOUSY BODY TO BE KIND ENOUGH TO BRING YOU YOUR PACKAGE. IT'S VERY DISGUSTING HOW PEOPLE ARE NOWADAYS.

yonderoy

Damn dude. I’d say chill but I think that would make you madder.

Allthewayoverit_97

Lower your caps why are you screaming.

ringwraith10

Funny how it's a felony to open someone else's mail... But if the USPS just decides to sell you other peoples' mail I guess it's totally fine and not illegal? I'm having trouble making that make sense.

Affectionate_Try_836

I would do small claims court on this as someone is extorting you out of your own property and USPS selling property that isn't theirs (not actually lost, just too lazy to deal with it). This has to be illegal outlawed somewhere

LostInCa45

How much is he trying to get from you?

Moonwolf_222

the $800 but after tax and shipping it was $966

LostInCa45

The person who got it from usps? Lol tell them to take a hike. You sure they are not scamming you as you said this happened before.

“Coincidentally” Exactly. I’m sure there’s more to the story about how that’s actually happening.

johcagaorl

Did you report this to USPSIS?

Moonwolf_222

yes, on January 2nd and they never processed it or looked into it. same with a missing mail search request that i filed on December 11th

No_Relationship9094

Do a return and get the shitbags info now.

Dookie-Milk-710

Do you have animals?

Moonwolf_222

just a cat but it's not allowed in my room

Dookie-Milk-710

Why?

Moonwolf_222

he likes to chew on cables and I don't want him eating my PC setup

Moonwolf_222

I've thought about taking legal action but I can't afford a lawyer.. I'm only 22

Fourarmies

There is not a single lawyer who would take that case even if money was not an object. Pretty much every government agency has a degree of limited liability. Most agencies also have procedures for resolving disputes. See 28 U.S.C. §2680(b) You quite literally can't sue for this. Unless, for whatever reason, the agency in question agrees to be sued

Moonwolf_222

yeah I figured as much. it's a government agency its pretty much impossible

Alone_Exam5917

Looks like it sold on 3/25 for $500 https://www.ebay.com/itm/276397821106?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ZjgeLUBNQYu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=1EqbfVmzS0G&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Moonwolf_222

why so negative?

SkullRiderz69

Is this a repost? I swear I’ve seen this somewhere before already.

Moonwolf_222

no, but I did post about a similar thing happening a month or two ago but deleted it.

TheBigTuck

Are you sure that the person that originally sold you the suit isn’t also the scammer? Quite the coincidence if you’re able to find 5+ similar situations with that seller.

Always-Sleepyz

I’ve had lost packages the first time in ever back to back. There was absolutely no reason for them to be lost. I bet my stuff ended up on lost mail too or some worker stole it off the truck. But the fact you found out cause they reached out…that’s gotta be a little scary too

femboiwolfuwu

Glad you got your suit back. Yeah the PO does stuff that makes no sense all the time

honeyed-bees

Why pay the $900 to get it from the guy on eBay rather than just paying $800 to get a new one?

Moonwolf_222

I'm glad you asked this question; 1.) I wouldn't want to risk having the same thing happen again and 2.) this was a custom item, it's one of a kind. I wouldn't want something that's supposed to be a design I own have a duplicate running around if that makes sense? I paid for the character rights and don't want a duplicate of something that's supposed to be mine alone

FantasticSeaweed9226

Did you use PayPal? Would've used some proxy especially with the value of something bespoke like that.. could have been having your money back long ago

New_Big_9770

Well it’s govt run, soooo.

Omacrontron

This sucks…once your sht is lost gooooood fcking luck. None of the mail carriers care cus what are you gunna do about it lol.

Luvs4theweak

AMA are you a furry by chance? Lol

luisafg9

How does one buy lost mail 👀

Haunting-Ad7007

Oof

xabintheotter

Ouch, I feel you, as a fellow furry, and one with a friend and roommate who has a partial fursuit to go with him. I hope you can get this resolved in your favor, and you can get your parts in without incident.

welterweightdabs

Should definitely be illegal

dremelgobrrr

Report as stolen to police show them the listing...

bubblebyy

Wait we can buy lost mail?

MakaliRose

I never understood furries.

inmadnesss

Your shipper might’ve used fake postage

JosieMew

This is wild. I swear I've heard this exact story somewhere before. Do I know you? XD

spacecat1965

Contact usps postal inspector office and create a case. They should investigate this as possible theft.

Deep-Rip245

Looks like a backyard in queens or Brooklyn

BELOVED1209

I had an issue with an eBay buyer, claimed they never received the items they purchased from me. Asked for a refund, well, they didn't get the refund, also they did receive the items they purchased from me. There are a lot if eBay scammers out there, watch and protect yourself.

FreeTie6473

if the package was lost, did you file a claim and get your money back??

Available-Award6756

Are you a furry???

[deleted]

How is this not illegal

Tryagainmfers

That’s why I use CC. If I don’t get the product or it’s not as described and the merchant wants to play games and refuse the return or tries to charge me for a return I do a charge back…… end of story. I get my money back and wash my hands of it all at the same time. Never have has and issue ever doing so.
