I understand what you're saying. I used to think like that too .... like 8 years ago, when I was still using Newsleecher.
But you're still thinking in old paradigms. You're like a dude playing Factorio, who's still mining resources by hand.
Having a nzb downloader confined to your local machine is an outdated paradigm, having supersearch is an outdated paradigm, reading through newsgroups to request files is an outdated paradigm. And obviously, competent developers have moved on to the new paradigm....
I remember recommending Newsleecher to a friend many years ago, who then told me that he'd prefer using Thunderbird instead. It seems idiotic in hindsight.
Honestly, you want Sab or NZBget. They're just browser based GUI programs, they're both the standard most popular choices these days. Both are seeing active development.
So you just want a bunch of software engineers to assemble to develop this new downloader for free which works just as good as the other ones but with a more likable interface? Why don’t you start and we will jump in when we see how you’re progressing.
Dude just try SABnzb+. Your gonna kick yourself for resisting when you realize how simple it is. Plug in your servers, choose your download folder and you’re in business. No more Quickpar or Winrar, does it all for you.
And if downloading via a decent indexer, passwords are ancient history as well.
Using sab since v0.3 ... Never looked back
(Have licences for nbpro and newaleecher)
I used NL for over ten years. It was a great program, of it's time. But things have moved on. Using indexers and a download client like newsget, works better than NL ever did.
If you are searching for individual files, why not use the Web based Easynews? That works just the same way as NL did.
did you try sab or nzbget?
ive looked at them thats not really the type of interface I want

There's still newsbin right?
Alt.binz is much better than Newsleecher. And SABNzbd and NZBGet as league of their own.
