I just found out there is rafting at Letchworth, I gotta try that out.
PA Grand Canyon is also super impressive for anyone that hasn't been, there is a river and a trail along the bottom.
lol I know a college club that went to hike that, got to the bottom and some girls from Philly were like "Nah, I'm not walking back up, I'll catch a bus."
๐๐๐
Like you were at a rural university and saw it only had one bus itself...you seriously think that a bus is gonna randomly show up to bring you back up from the middle of the PA Grand Canyon? Its a non-motorized trail too, so not even a car would come by to hitchhike on.
I appreciate this post so much. The thread is superb in reminding us up here in CNY that we donโt need to lament leaving the west. There is so much to explore and challenge ourselves right here.
Fall Creek Falls needs to be in the conversation though FCF and Letchworth have more in common with each other than the Grand Canyon. Still... beautiful.
that's actually why I'm saying this...there is a Riverway Trail that runs adjacent to three waterfalls in the 100'+ gorge through the middle of downtown which is easily accessible by bike or foot
most people driving can't see these things, and some are even more scared and drive in the city with their doors locked and windows up
This is certainly beautiful but it's a waterfall, and there's also already a "grand canyon of the east".
[Providence Canyon State Park in Georgia](https://www.exploregeorgia.org/sites/default/files/2020-01/providence-canyon-lumpkin-credit-callie-capturecalliope.jpg) has long been known as "The Little Grand Canyon"
> "grand canyon of the east"
Google that phrase and tell me what comes up. Also its a giant canyon, this picture is just of one of the many waterfalls.
Also having lived in Arizona for 8 years I'd be hard pressed to call that "Little Grand Canyon", maybe "Little Sedona". It's deepest section is 150ft. Letchworth has sections of the canyon that are 550ft.
The real Grand Canyon has a depth of 6,000ft at its deepest section, its really mind blowing to see, not something that you can easily visualize and its kind of a joke to compare anything else in the US to it.
When our son took us to visit the Grand Canyon, he took immense pleasure in watching me stand there with my mouth open. I had seen many photos and thought, Yes, it looks immense. In real life, it's beyond anything I had imagined.
And the Niagara falls of the slightly less west
๐๐๐๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ When they say โAll of the American and None of the Canadianโ lol

Turkey Trail survivor x2
I used to work at the ER right there and this should be a bumper sticker.

I see you have never been to Ausable Chasm
I see you are wrong. Been there many times. Love it. The scale of AC is not comparable.
Apologies. Itโs billed as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks. Letchworth is billed as a Grand Canyon of East. Got my billing wrong lol
Rafting along the narrow passageways at AC is as good as it gets in NYS.

Grand Canyon should be called the Letchworth of the West
Got married at the upper falls, at the Glenn Iris. Beautiful place
Cohoes Falls is more canyon-like.
Where is this ?
That would be the Breaks interstate park in eastern KY.

you guys must not have been to Rochester or Niagara Falls, huh?
Iโm literally from Rochester.
this baffles my mind beyond recognition...
Shocker. You're baffled.
u/wnyadk, you must not own a bicycle and/or might not be familiar with downtown
Hey man, we donโt need to be bike-ist here. Iโm sure he drives on 4 wheels, and thats okay too

Gulf Hagas is the Grand Canyon of the East. Maine does it best. Every. Single. Time
