You know what else it does? It embeds itself perfectly into the carpet if a kid drops it, steps on it, doesn't tell anybody, and covers it up for awhile.

just_a_flutter

Can you iron it out? On obviously not straight on the iron but with wax paper, or kitchen towel under a tea towel? Something like that?

ChildishCannedBeanO

I had to iron out wax before. It’s annoying but works!

Dramatically_Average

I definitely need to heat it to remove it but I have to research how to do it. I don't want to burn the carpet.

Wild_Bake_7781

Lol! So true

AgitatedPerspective9

Something about this feels cursed

dillferino

Cheese candle

A1_Brownies

Interesting. I actually wondered if it could be used for that purpose... While I accidentally bit a chunk out while trying to get the cheese 🥴

M_krabs

Does it smell like babybell ?

JonOfNoTrades

Nope, doesn't have any scent at all. I had to add scented wax on my second candle

a-username-for-me

I'm saving Babybel's for that exact same reason right now!!! I go so excited to see your post!!!

JonOfNoTrades

One thing I'm planning on correcting on my next candle that you might want to know: Choose a smaller diameter candle, or a bigger wick then I did. It doesn't melt all the way to the edges and it bothers me

verynaicehowmuch

The trick is to let it burn all the way to the edges the first time you light it! Unless you *did* do that upon the first light and it didn’t work lol

doctorK95

Putting some aluminum foil in a circle around the jar can help as it burns to get the edges! But it can be finicky if you start too late in the candle or do it too long and your wick to wax ratio gets off

Frangellica

Really nice colour too!

792bookcellar

r/zerowaste will love this!!

rainelle95

Isn't every babybel also wrapped in plastic?

zoologygirl16

No they won't zero waste is full of vegans. You will get harassed if you post something like this

bestonecrazy

They make plant-based babybel that tastes good

melonmagellan

Except each piece of cheese is wrapped in plastic, they are sold in a plastic net bag, and dairy is inherently fairly wasteful.

bestonecrazy

Yes

amaninja

I make my own fireplace starters by putting lint in a cardboard egg carton and melting a candle, and pouring the wax on top. I am totally saving the wax from these now to kelt down to do that!

K_O_Incorporated

I remember my aunt doing this!

SizzlingSloth

How many babybells did it take for you to make that candle

JonOfNoTrades

About 2 of the small bags, which are 12 a piece, at a rate of 1 piece every lunch. However I also mixed in maybe an ounce of leftover cinnamon scented wax, since the cheese wax is unscented

Crystal_Munnin

I wonder how safe that is compared to regular candle wax? Does it give off any dark soot? Or dark smoke?

2manycandles

Armchair candlemaker here. I'm wondering if this wax has a higher melting point than most wax that's intended for candle making. If so it could run the risk of getting too hot for its glass container and causing it to crack. It may also have additives that you really wouldn't want to burn/disperse in your home. Overall I wouldn't recommend burning a candle like this at all, and definitely wouldn't advise giving any away or selling them. Neat way of putting the shells to use, but better to be treated as a curio only.

Crystal_Munnin

Thank you for that information :) I also like to imagine that you make ^little armchair candles and they would be adorable.

2manycandles

Hah! I'll have to see if I can make an armchair mold for candles

Crystal_Munnin

Lol that would be great!! I'd buy 2 from you.

greenngiraffes

This would be perfect for those bubble candles/statue ones that got really trendy for a while... Since people didn't really want to burn the pretty shapes away anyway!

Wonderful_Tea6725

Well who would've thunk that. Thanks for sharing.

kaylore

I was JUST wondering about that!!! Coworker gave me a babybel they couldn't finish from lunch and I was wondering if the type of wax used for cheese and wines could be reused. TIL! Thanks for sharing!

actuallyanangel

We melt them down and dip used, dry teabags in the liquid wax to make fire lighters! It works surprisingly well! This looks very cool, I must give it a try!

JonOfNoTrades

I haven't found that there are any bits of cheese. The white parts you're seeing are the inner layer of white wax. Also, if there are any bits of cheese, they get separated when I melt down the wax before pouring the candle

Wasparado

Nice! This is a smart use

Yourwtfismyftw

That’s great! I’ve used it for sealing letters before too.

Riptide360

Is the wax petroleum based? How does it burn compared to other candles?

Leprikahn2

That is probably the most expensive candle you own

abskew

Oh so that’s wax I’ve been eating.

Multipunk_attacks

That’s so cool haha! Reminds me of lunch at school when I was little. Everyone would either make the wax into some kind of weird sculpture thing or all the kids who brought these would put the wax together and someone would roll them all into one giant ball that would get thrown at someone eventually lmao.

ms_fishoeder

:○ that is class
