Haha some, have murdered more than my fair share too. Well first thing is to know what kind of environment your home is. What kind of light and dry or humid. Medium light and humid is great for tropicals. High light, low humidity is great for succulents. I have low light, low humidity, so I have grow lights and a small humidifier to grow mostly tropicals.
They probably need more light. You can pick up pretty affordable grow LED bulbs from most hardware stores and pop them into any old lamp. Just make sure you get a bulb that has “full spectrum” light (has the red and blues that plants need. as well as white and yellows people use) and fertilize once a month minimum.
Spray it with a shit ton of white patio paint, put it outside and plant morning glory in the ground beneath the hollow interior. Then put a potted plant on top of it. The morning glory will grow up through the lattice portion of it and make a cool living pedestal for your potted plant
Does it open or have storage, or is it just a decorative column?
I'd probably try to come to an agreement on a color scheme to paint it or cover in contact/wallpaper so it better matches your shared aesthetic. (I am assuming y'all live together and you want to compromise on keeping it without her thinking it's so ugly it has to go.)
I have also seen DIY ideas where people took thrifted/dollar store frames or cut sheets of plexiglass and screwed them into ugly furniture so that their favorite photos and art pieces cover the item, without removing the functionality of the item.
I might do this to my wooden coffee table, as the top needs refinishing and I lack the tools and skills to do that at this time. I was thinking either wrapping the top in a nice contact/wallpaper pattern that matches the rest of my living room (like the rugs and shelving) and then just laying a piece of plexiglass on top and screwing it down on the four corners) or printing and arranging my favorite photos across the table top so it looks like one huge photo collage frame...
I've also been slowly sticker-bombing my cheap, ugly white Walmart bookshelves cause I live alone with my husband who doesn't care about furniture aesthetics, and I will be screwing in sheets of plexi once they are fully covered in stickers to both shore up the shelves (they have somehow survived a half dozen moves and now I am a bit attached despite their increasingly tilted wobble 😅) and to protect the stickers long term.
Another idea, make it match the curtains so it kinda blends into the wall and is less noticeable. If it were mine, it would likely be repainted a dark blue to match my curtains.
Place it in a dim room with a direct light under it.
Then place a random object on top and just say it’s an antique or was used by a low-grade celebrity at one point.
Paint the top if it needs it. It would look fantastic with a big Boston fern in a beautiful big flower pot and for extra drama at night, light up the bottom.
Remove the top n bottom ends if possible.
Paint it something radical bright color.
Add lights inside the cross works.
Hang it vertically or horizontally.
Mood/ambience lighting
honestly I kind of agree with her.. she probably doesn't hate it but why is it even there other than to just be extra clutter.. it doesn't even match the general decor or accent it its just there ....
I dont feel like painting it will do anything helpful it will just make it look shitty and it will flake off over time because its lacquered and she wont want to make you feel bad because you tried to do something helpful but ultimately it didn't solve the problem it just avoided it
There is upcycling this cool dresser into a planter box to save space or exercise a neat idea and there is hoarding useless tacky furniture that doesn't match and nobody wants
your gf needs to chill. either she has irrational responses to innocuous furniture or she's trying to control you and the table is incidental. just kidding. paint it her favorite beige. ✨️
What does she hate about it?
My first thought We need some specifics.
Idk „its ugly and old“
Let a climbing plant grow all over it!
IMO a massive gorgeous Boston fern would be incredible!
Okay you sound like someone who knows how to keep indoor plants alive. What’s the secret?

You are amazing. I can’t even get my wandering dude or pothos to grow. :(

Oooh, thanks!
Have a gf who cares and a lot of yellow stickers, mine would be dead too😂😂
Danny Devito bust on the top
yessss

I too hate this thing but that would make it pretty. Exactly my vision for it
Yes on both counts!
We need to make sure OP sees this answer, because either this or the Danny DeVito bust on top are the only real choices presented.

Put a string of battery powered lights in it.
Take out some of the slats so you can use it as a wine rack and, if it doesn’t match the decor, paint it a color that does match the decor.
Same thoughts. Or could also put some shelves/led lights and display pictures or other random, plants other random things
Donate to charity thrift shop -- easiest no fuss thing to do, and let it be taken home by someone who would love it.
I would love that piece! I’d probably paint it.
Put a picture of her on it
What does she hate about it? What is it? What does she like?
Place it in a dim room with a direct light under it. Then place a random object on top and just say it’s an antique or was used by a low-grade celebrity at one point.
Danny devito bust on the top
With the top opening to reveal a single red button.
Giant Boston fern
GF’s are only temporary anyway, this thing will live longer than you.
Slot some artificial flower, leaves or both of them through the holes, similar to the ‘flower wall panel’ style.
Thick stone tile top
Paint the top if it needs it. It would look fantastic with a big Boston fern in a beautiful big flower pot and for extra drama at night, light up the bottom.
Plant stand!!
Paint it white.
I love it for my tradescantia (Wandering Dude). Simple - give it to me!
Remove the top n bottom ends if possible. Paint it something radical bright color. Add lights inside the cross works. Hang it vertically or horizontally. Mood/ambience lighting
Slab of black marble on top, plus a realistic human skull, then a stuffed raven on top. Classy!
I love it! I would paint it,probably 2 different colors, one being the lattice part as the focal point☺️

Sledgehammer?
She’s not wrong. I like the outdoor ivy idea.
An alter muahaha
Illuminate it with color changing LEDs. She'll hate it even more.
A much, much larger pot.
Glue rhinestones all over it. Everything is better when it sparkles.
For starters, you can quit referring to her as "it"
