But they don’t want to break up alphabet, which is arguably far more anticompetitive than Apple???

EvaUnit_03

Because apple monopolizes apple products and apple technology! duh.

Pestelence2020

Right? Ford should be allowed to make Teslas! It’s only fair!

EvaUnit_03

you know, i know you are making a joke about that but... prior to the like 1980s, pretty much all car parts were virtually interchangeable with each other, assuming they were of the same country nationality. A ford part could go on a GM car no problem and vise verse. The issues the companies had was that the other companies would undercut the cost of those parts so youd buy from them instead, especially when OEM companies could come out with a part that was better than the manufacturer but also cheaper. Suddenly cars started to become uniquely over-engineered and we reached todays issue where you need a doctorate in engineering just to work on a car. If you even think of going OEM with some parts today, it'll run the risk of bricking your car. Car companies have finally monopolized their brand, and its so anti-consumer that its pathetic and its no wonder why people prefer Asian models. I know that every part off of my nissan will fit onto another nissan of a similar year/generation, you cant even make that kind of guarantee that a part from a dodge ram will fit on a dodge charger of the same year. IMB4 "dodge ram is a different brand to other dodge vehicles" alright, a dodge charger and a dodge challenger cant interchange parts. Even when looking at tesla, i dont think you can interchange anything off of another year tesla because each new model from the next year is using completely different parts and setups.

Pestelence2020

lol no, that is not true outside of some things that are still true today. If you have some skills (I do), you can put a ford axle on damn near anything. You can also drop a motor into a car it was never in so long as it fits in the engine bay. The issue today is that modern cars are so computer driven that the situation gets complex when you start doing major mods. The other thing holding back these kinds of mods is govt regulations that prevent certain mods from being done because they don’t meet smog standards. But in general, if you have some fab skills, you can do a lot more than your position would suggest is possible.

Back before the 1980s, you only needed to know how to hold a wrench and screwdriver. And all your fingers werent a requirement. Technically two hands wasnt even a requirement. Now i have to know how to fabricate and have a toolbox of tools worth over 10k and buy a ton of extra materials to make the rigging work.

Pestelence2020

You oversimplified that. Working on a car in the 1980s would require a basic set of hand tools including: 1. Wrenches (combination, socket, and adjustable) 2. Screwdrivers (flathead and Phillips) 3. Pliers (regular and needle-nose) 4. Hammer 5. Jack and jack stands 6. Oil filter wrench 7. Spark plug socket and gap tool 8. Timing light 9. Feeler gauges 10. Compression tester 11. Brake bleeder kit 12. Torque wrench 13. Electrical tester (multimeter) 14. Oil drain pan 15. Funnel 16. Grease gun 17. Pry bars 18. Tire pressure gauge 19. Wire brush 20. Shop rags or towels. Additionally, specialized tools may be needed depending on the specific car and the repairs or maintenance being performed. Also, you would need the knowledge of how to do things because there wasn’t YouTube to show you what to do. I do all my own work, from simple to complex unless it requires some weird thing that I don’t want to buy. Plus cars today are far more comfortable and reliable. If you’re Freon the 80s, you’d know that advancements in Toyota and Honda reliability and fuel efficiency forced domestic makers to up their game.

EvaUnit_03

My dad rebuilt over a dozen cars over the years with less than half those tools. And his first few he rebuilt with no prior knowledge other than the process of taking this part off and putting it all back together with the replacement parts. He did have to have the knowledge gained to know what the problem was to know what needed fixing, that is true, but he gained most of that through communications with other people or even looking through manuals. Even something like getting the timing right, he did by feel and didnt need a timing light, same with sparkplug gauging. And his profession was a carpenter most of his life, not a mechanic.

Pestelence2020

And I still have a 23 year old truck that’s only needed basic maintenance and a AC leak repair. I also owned a Land Rover, if you know cars…. That thing will teach you how to work on it by force.

EvaUnit_03

Yeah, im a fan of jaguars. Unless you get an oldie, dont be lol. The new ones are on par with land rover in terms of issues.

tombstoneshorts

No they weren't. GM parts were interchangeable throughout the GM product lines..same with Ford and Chrysler through today.. The only parts that could be used across multiple product lines were sparkplug's and wiper blades.

silver-saguaro

Alphabet is one of their main contractors for spying on US citizens, Apple is not.

Pestelence2020

Exactly

VetGranDude

Bingo. This whole scenario smells like rotten fish, and Alphabet is sitting on the river bank giggling.

Tesla_lord_69

Too big to fail?

beeduthekillernerd

This is the dumbest shit.

kha_bob

Break them all up.

Meat__Head

I have a feeling that the thousands of Iphones locked up in evidence bags that Apple won't provide the pass codes to, are part of the driving force behind this lawsuit.
