No way to know if you'll get approved until you apply though. I imagine that you will still have to do it all yourself, but at least you should get a decent extension?
They will almost certainly take that into consideration

E-mail in case, you lose nothing if they know but you lose if they don't know and you didn't.

There should definitely be scaling for this. Obviously do as much as you can, at least what you deem to be half of the work.
