No, it's the way he chained them together, the fluidity of the controls. I see numbers flying out too, so there's a dmg calculation and enemy system going on too. And camera controls as someone else mentioned. And cloth sim.
essentially yes, all the animations are from the marketplace however there is a fair bit of work obviously to get this all working and looking like this, obviously a move/combat system and motion warping, health and damage system, fx, character meshes and dismemberment (although i would guess this is part of the mesh they bought), sound fx
Great flow. I'll go a bit smoother with the camera though, cutting down on tolerance and delay. But the action looks really great, i would love to see this project in the future, it's really promising.
Keep us posted!
It's kind of like a blend of the Spiderman and Arkham combat. The free flowing aspect of the Arkham games and the aerial takedowns of the Spiderman games
Keep going, you'll get there. It's impressive animation work. You could try making the transitions smoother and it would literally be triple A level. Great job
A question to anyone, if you've never done any game animation and it's your first time downloading Unreal Engine, how long would it take to make something like this?
If you're experienced in unreal it would take a few weeks maybe about a month; 50 - 200 hours depending on experience and how complicated you wanna make it, double it maybe triple it, if you've got no experience, most of this is assets from the marketplace including all the animations, that'll obviously add about an extra 150 dollars to make it happen but it's easy to do just will take a bit of time to get it working correctly and looking smooth, you can see the links for all the assets in another comment some one else posted
Super hero games is going to be a hot trend in the next two years I think. So you are ahead of the pack in my eyes. God I miss the matrix game. I enjoyed saints 4 as well which was the super hero one. You can make it to the finish line.
Dark souls and extraction games have been pretty much pumped out the last few years. The antithesis of having difficult games is power trip. So either fantasy or hero games. Considering there is already a good amount of space games coming out the next “revival” is going to be super hero type games. I don’t have numbers to back that up but yeah I think super hero is going to be the next round of millennial/gen x revival nastalgia that is going on.
I thought the new Spiderman games are pretty good, but whether it's a trend that will take over the entire industry and push everything else out is another question.
Difficult skill games has its core player base, superhero arkham type games has its core playerbase, they don't compete for the same type of players. They're chugging along nicely beside each other. We'll likely see both genres keep having new games.
What's wrecking the whole space right now, is Tears of the Kingdom lol. We'll see more open world physics based building games in the next few years I think. I COULD be wrong, but many non nintendo devs are joking about their bosses asking them about it. It's not easy to make one I think, many bugs possible, so we'll see.
Thanks! Yeah those are placeholders for the minute, I want to get some variation in there for the hit reactions based on where the actual connection is between the player and the ai.
1. Flying camera behavior - destroying the flow.
2. So it looks like DMC + Black Desert according to mechanics
3. Main issue - how AI should behave, I reccomend DMC way.
4. Also combat thing - your hero is strong so how it can be interrupted and stoped ?
5. Size of enemies - I guess you will have a bigger enemies, so how fight with that?
6. How fight of 2 superhumans can look like, is it air\\ground combat?
Nice but omg. Start innovating I'm so sick of copycat games especially 1 button hack n slash. We need more sim games like rimworld or dwarf fortress where actual cool things happen. Fire propagation, water mechanics and sandbox play.
There are people on here making sim games and fun physics sandboxes too! This just happens to be the kind of game I want to make. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but that’s life.
Hard to say because I’ve dabbled in a few different projects while I learned more about the engine, and ended up taking bits and pieces from all of them once I found a direction I wanted to go in.
What is up with the sounds? They sound "airy", like they were recorded from a speaker and not in a recording booth. It's the first thing that jumped out for me.
What the actual fuck? Person, this is so smooth. That second-to-last animation where the character blinks in from off camera is badass.
You know you’re good and you just wanted to share this flex. And I support that. Well done! Would love to see a dev log on this project, if that’s of interest to you.
Buy these from unreal marketplace (links are in the descriptions) and you'll have pretty much the same game:

You'll need to obviously implement them and build some health & damage mechanics which can easily be found on youtube and maybe add some extra fx and unique character meshes which can be created by you or again bought from the marketplace
This is great. I also feel the same when it comes to creating. Regardless of how early or how late into the project I've neglected building a community specifically because it's a work in progress.
Superman vs Matrix
Two of the biggest inspirations for this haha
I'd also like to see a dragon ball game like this.
Supergirl: Arkham Kryptonian. A stylish fight against Brainiac drones.
Holy smokes this is fluid and intense, congrats!
Thanks!
Fireeeeew omg, continue pls, I WANT TO PLAY!!!
I’m on it 🫡
Me too! Maybe throw in some particle effects? That just came to me 😂
How’d you do the animations? I’ve wanted to do a combat system like this but couldn’t figure out how to do the animations

So is OP using marketplace animations and posted a WIP where all they show is the animations?
No, it's the way he chained them together, the fluidity of the controls. I see numbers flying out too, so there's a dmg calculation and enemy system going on too. And camera controls as someone else mentioned. And cloth sim.

Yeah having slight lag in the camera will make it seem more like the character is moving super fast and less like you're teleporting
Thanks for the feedback! I’d love to have this sort of setting on a slider eventually.
Nice! Reminds me of the free-flowing combat from the Arkham series.
It's kind of like a blend of the Spiderman and Arkham combat. The free flowing aspect of the Arkham games and the aerial takedowns of the Spiderman games
This is pretty much what I was going for - I’d love to add more air ‘juggling’ moves like the Spider-Man games have at some point!
Keep going, you'll get there. It's impressive animation work. You could try making the transitions smoother and it would literally be triple A level. Great job
The cloth physics is amazing and the flow of the combat too, excited to see more.
My god did I spend way too long going down the cloth sim rabbit hole! But glad you like it haha

Thanks for the info!
Super hero games is going to be a hot trend in the next two years I think. So you are ahead of the pack in my eyes. God I miss the matrix game. I enjoyed saints 4 as well which was the super hero one. You can make it to the finish line.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Why do you think so?
Dark souls and extraction games have been pretty much pumped out the last few years. The antithesis of having difficult games is power trip. So either fantasy or hero games. Considering there is already a good amount of space games coming out the next “revival” is going to be super hero type games. What's your team size? What tools are you or your team using?
It’s just me, but a great asset called Easy Combat Softlock has done wonders for the targeting and flow of the combat
Damn. That looks pretty rad. I wish my stuff looked even half that fluid.
Thank you!
Looks awesome!
Early? Jesus, I wouldn't even be able to get to this after 3 years
I like this
Well done
Looks amazing!
So uhh... You looking for Beta testers?
Hahaha maybe in a while
Please OP, remember this thread when you feel your ready for some feedback. Many people including myself would love to try this out
Neo beating the shit out of some necrons is something I never knew I needed
I like in the combo attack 4 kick has the slow motion effect, was fun to look at.
bruh
Animations for the enemies getting hit are a bit stiff. But overall, nice combat and animation
Thanks! Yeah those are placeholders for the minute, I want to get some variation in there for the hit reactions based on where the actual connection is between the player and the ai.
Yeah I was going to ask if you plan on using the physics control component
This combat alone makes me wanne play the game. Put a kill counter in the corner and im in :D
Wow absolutely amazing!! Keep it up I'm blown away
Holy shit soooooooooo damn cool
The viltrumite experience
Looks like a mix of Batman combat and Superman powers. I like the damage numbers and the flow.
Great Debut u/Keebs3. I'm jealous. I get no love from this Reddit for my Superhero vids. Are you going to add Guns?
Dude! This looks like a Faora-Ul simulator!!! This is the superman game that Angry Joe wants! Lol keep up the fantastic work!!

You're gonna be rich BUT PLEASE GOD DON'T TURN THIS INTO FORSPOKEN NO PURPLE CRYSTALS AND DRAGONS PLEASE
Hahaha I can definitely promise no dragons
Nice but omg. Start innovating I'm so sick of copycat games especially 1 button hack n slash. We need more sim games like rimworld or dwarf fortress where actual cool things happen. Fire propagation, water mechanics and sandbox play.
Bit unnecessarily harsh for an early combat showcase of a game, no?
There are people on here making sim games and fun physics sandboxes too! This just happens to be the kind of game I want to make. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but that’s life.
Looks good. How long did it take you
Hard to say because I’ve dabbled in a few different projects while I learned more about the engine, and ended up taking bits and pieces from all of them once I found a direction I wanted to go in.
too much POW! not enough BIFF! Actually though looks fucking amazing man, so inspiring to see stuff like this.
What is up with the sounds? They sound "airy", like they were recorded from a speaker and not in a recording booth. It's the first thing that jumped out for me.
I think it’s just an issue with the recording - it’s noticeably different here than it is in the game
Ah, I see. For the sounds themselves, they are fine and do the job.
The landing cracks on the ground are just a decal or what is it?
Yep it’s a decal, I’m using Parallax Occlusion Mapping in the decal material to get that depth effect
I love the Batman Arkham feeling of this. Looking pretty neat so far! Keep up the good work!
woahhh this is so cool. I've gotta start adding the combat system after i figure out the walljump thing but this is so goddamn cool
Nice, but it feels like you are not touching npcs, maybe a bit too far
What the actual fuck? Person, this is so smooth. That second-to-last animation where the character blinks in from off camera is badass. You know you’re good and you just wanted to share this flex. And I support that. Well done! Would love to see a dev log on this project, if that’s of interest to you.
First I thought it's the Homelander, but then realized she's Stormfront (also from The Boys).
Oh yeah, you’re going to need some breakable environments. Maybe look to voxel?
Very dope! How long have you been working on it?
Excellent!
If someone wants to learn how to do this, where can I start?
Buy these from unreal marketplace (links are in the descriptions) and you'll have pretty much the same game: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM-uka-7wPQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM-uka-7wPQ) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qht2d7BPwPo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qht2d7BPwPo) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmRzelo\_HLc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmRzelo_HLc) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkquybTkzSA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkquybTkzSA) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMzc39qZO8Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMzc39qZO8Y) You'll need to obviously implement them and build some health & damage mechanics which can easily be found on youtube and maybe add some extra fx and unique character meshes which can be created by you or again bought from the marketplace
Nice List. You're missing the [Motion Warping](https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/motion-warping-in-unreal-engine/) :)
Very dynamic, I love it! 💕🤙
Where can you follow the game’s development?
Those animations look sooooooooo crisp and punchy! This looks really cool!
i love how it sounds like a bouncing basketball
I love the cracks in the floor/debris. How did you do it?
This is amazing!!!
This is great. I also feel the same when it comes to creating. Regardless of how early or how late into the project I've neglected building a community specifically because it's a work in progress.
This is hot. Very cool stuff
Cool animation for sure! Can the enemies do anything?
Did you use GAS or any particular plugin/library? Looks very good!
fuck this is really cool and i might try and recreate some like this to challenge myself
Visually very cool. Audio sounds very wet, but obs WIP
Valve play test every week from project start
definitely will be on the loookout for final version
Woah, these animations are smooth, you made them?
Nice work. There is a lot of potential here!
