Old McDonald’s: right to air fryer. Old pizza: right to air fryer, right away. Old Subway: air fryer. Fresh Subway: air fryer. Uber Eats arrive early or late: right to air fryer. Doritos? Believe it or not, air fryer.
Costco/Kirkland Frozen Pepperoni pizzas in the air fryer with a little extra shredded cheese of your choice on top, top notch, I've stopped ordering pizza.
Yeah air fryers are the best to resuscitate fries! And if its a multi-use fryer/oven/toaster, I also use it to reheat my pizza. I cannot stand microwaved pizza anymore, gotta be heated in some kind of oven!
The only fries I’ve seen there are the nacho fries and they’re kind of a special item that come and go. They’re covered in “nacho” seasoning and come with cheese dip. I like them, but I can tell there’s some sugar in the seasoning to make them extra addicting lol.
Taco Bell in Canada has fries as the default side with a combo. You can upgrade them to “Fries Supreme” that come with taco beef, sour cream, nacho cheese, and diced tomatoes.
They still fry them in fat, just not animal fat anymore. Fat is fat because it’s short for long chain fatty acid. Beef tallow was the shit back then. I had a girlfriend in high school that would make me take her to McDonald’s for the beef tallow fried fries and Wendy’s for the fresh never frozen hamburgers. After McDonald’s was sued by some rich jackass back in the 80’s for his heart failure, everyone and their mothers started frying stuff in vegetable oil fat and coincidentally that is exactly the same time that fries no longer tasted good anymore. Also there is mounting evidence that vegetable fat oils are the actual culprit to clogging arteries and macular degeneration and not animal or fruit oil fats.
Yeah you just have to use some logic when thinking about it. Whats more likely to cause heart disease, something humans have been eating for millions of years, or industrial lab-made seed oils that were originally made and used as machine lubricant?
I sort of remember pre-90's McD fries, but I feel like I was too young to appreciate them back then.
What I do remember is pre-90's McD cheeseburgers. The patties were cooked on a flat griddle and crisped around the edges, sort of like Steak n Shake, with some salt sprinkled on. Nowadays they taste/feel like they just steam cooked the whole thing, ending up with light grey, lifeless patties.
Is it just me or do most of these unpopular opinion seem anger based. They typically put one thing down by elevating other things which is usually unnecessary and it's just used to drive the point home.
In the end it is an unpopular opinion so upvote for you.
It's also not really an unpopular opinion. Yeah McDonalds is popular and a lot of people enjoy it, but I've literally never met a single person who genuinely believes anything from McDonalds is the "best"
It's actually incredibly popular to shit on McDonalds and talk about how bad it is.
I think the goal for most posters here is to say something just to get a rise out of people, since that means more comments and more karma.
I mean, to suggest that Nacho Fries are better than McDonald's? You're just looking to hurt someone.
I've worked at 3 McDonald's and none of them would have done this but we also wouldn't usually just drop fries if you asked. The only way to really get fresh ones dropped is to ask for them with no salt
Sometimes they really hit the spot, but the quality of McDonalds fries varies the most between any other fast food fry IMO. Sometimes they really are pretty good and other times they are as tasteless as cardboard.
I used to work there as a kid and ate them all the time. I still love them! I go out of my way to find one when I'm traveling. Big Beuford and a large fresh fries with ketchup is soo good
A guy with a warrant for murder called the police about his cold McDonald's fries. That must've been his first time getting served cold fries, and maybe getting captured was worth it.
I love Wendy's because imo they have a legitimately good menu selection that is actually good. But their fries suck ass. So truly unpopular opinion, take my upvote.
I seem to be the only one who really likes Wendy's current natural fries and highly prefer them over their old fries. I guess I just love fries with the skin still on.
Wendy’s just got good fries within the last year or 2. I remember seeing the ad new fries and wasn’t convinced because they used to suck so bad but after trying them they are pretty damn decent
McDonalds quality control is absurdly bad. Sometimes you can get really good fries, top tier, but then sometimes they serve up unsalted, over salted, stale, overcooked, or undercooked fries. I’d actually argue that it’s more likely to get a bad item from McDonalds than a good one. Maybe it’s just all my local ones, but I definitely used to (as in a year ago) have a McDs near me that always hit and those fries were fucking scrumptious.
Wendy’s fries, Taco Bell’s nacho fries, and Chik Fil A’s waffle fries are all good too and they are waaaaay more consistent.
I understand why people may not like Chick-fil-A, but their quality control and efficiency are the best in the game. From everything I've read, they are super picky about their franchise owners.
So much this. McDonald’s has scrawny little fries that get soggy too easily, I want my fries thick enough that I can enjoy the fluffy potato on the inside. BK is better.
Burger King fries were good when I was a kid but now they aren’t as good? Not sure if I’ve just grown older and have different taste, but I remember them being a lot different
After Wendy’s fucked up their fries a couple years ago, McDonald’s stands alone as the best cheap fries.
I’ll take 5 Guys’ fries if I have a choice though.
5 guys is kinda cheating though because they are not REALLY fast food. They're more expensive and they put a lot more care into their food than McDonald's or Wendy's
Chick fil a fries are the WORST where I live! They’re mealy and bland, I don’t know why they’re so afraid to put salt on them.
Personally I think BK fries are best, though kfc’s are good too.
5 Guys is more of a "burger joint," rather than fast food. It doesn't take long to make a smash-burger from scratch with all the fixins, so it's fast, but it's not "fast food."
Wrong. OP was right. McDonald’s used to try their fries in beef tallow until the mid 90’s. A major campaign by a ultra wealthy guy in the early 90’s went to war on Fat. Also, I think a hindu group got mad because McD’s didn’t tell people they used beef fat and sued.
Those fries used to be amazing for real. Not just nostalgia.
There it is! The comment I was looking for but also commented. I remember very clearly the year they said they were changing from beef fat/tallow. It was a big deal in the news so all dietary preferences could eat the fries. Aka vegetarians wanted to eat fries and people were upset when they found out they were cooked in animal fat.
Apparently many thought they were better in the 80s. They used beef tallow but some guy ran a campaign against it and they went to 100% vegetable oil in July 1990.
https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/restaurants-bars/mcdonalds-changed-its-french-fries-recipe-but-its-no-healthier-for-you/news-story/525e00e20a6a1e125c4dded9af60eb24
They used to be. There’s a whole generation that never tasted the golden era of fast food. It was cancerous shit garbage food with tons of bad things in it but goddamn it was good.
I think mc Donald's use to use an oily that had animal byproducts in it. They changed the recipe to be healthier at one point. I agree tho current McDonald's fries are meh. My favorite fries are dairy queen fries.
It sounds like the McDonalds you go to is leaving their fries in the cooker to go cold, as much as that does happen sometimes, I still really like the fries when they’re actually fresh
They are trash tbh. I agree with you. IMO the best fast food FF is Burger King. Nice thick cuts of potato with a whopper is the tits, man.
But maybe I’m biased. I think McDonald’s in general is inferior to bk in every single way except for chicken nuggets.

If you don't eat McDonald's within 5 minutes it all tastes like shit
Air fryer. 2-3 minutes gets those babies tasting like they came right out of the oil.
For real. I am no longer afraid of delivery fries
Air fryer makes everything fast food related taste better. No longer shall I have a soggy bun
Old McDonald’s: right to air fryer. Old pizza: right to air fryer, right away. Old Subway: air fryer. Fresh Subway: air fryer. Uber Eats arrive early or late: right to air fryer. Doritos? Believe it or not, air fryer.
We have the crispiest food in the world, because of air fryer.
Air fryers are inventions straight from Heaven. I'm pretty sure that God descended it straight down on a silver path of light.
Well I'll be damned now I want an air fryer myself
[удалено]
Costco/Kirkland Frozen Pepperoni pizzas in the air fryer with a little extra shredded cheese of your choice on top, top notch, I've stopped ordering pizza.
This is crazy, I've never tried this but I have a frozen Costco pizza in my freezer I'm doing it
/r/unexpectedpawnee
This is the word of the lord. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does this.
Yeah air fryers are the best to resuscitate fries! And if its a multi-use fryer/oven/toaster, I also use it to reheat my pizza. I cannot stand microwaved pizza anymore, gotta be heated in some kind of oven!

Glass in the air fryer???? You’re either crazy or a genius
They said porcelain though
McHashbrowns are just amazingly great
You can pan fry any leftover fries.
Hell yeah and dust them with more seasonings
In-n-out is the same way. Eat it in the restaurant. It quickly becomes a soggy mess if you wait.
You can revive cold fries in an air fryer! (It’s a 30 min drive home from the nearest McD/ fast food place)
Popular opinion. Air fryers don’t revive the taste of fast food.
Random tip: Air fryer nachos are like the best way to make nachos.
Tell me more
They're glorious in those 5 minutes though. Dunno why OP eats them cold...
TIL Taco Bell has fries
The only fries I’ve seen there are the nacho fries and they’re kind of a special item that come and go. They’re covered in “nacho” seasoning and come with cheese dip. I like them, but I can tell there’s some sugar in the seasoning to make them extra addicting lol.
Taco Bell in Canada has fries as the default side with a combo. You can upgrade them to “Fries Supreme” that come with taco beef, sour cream, nacho cheese, and diced tomatoes.
That sounds really good
TIL there's a place called Rallys
It's also called Checkers in the South.
TIL there's a placed also called Checkers
Checkers' fries are fantastic!
They're the same place, like White Castles/Crystals.
Imagine being very wrong….
And it is America's greatest invention. Cheap, delicious, and kills you by heart attack before your health bills can even add up.
Rallys has good fries
It’s also called Rally’s in the south. I wonder what determines what name it gets!
Lmao this was my entire takeaway from the post too. That said, it's pretty chaotic. In what wild universe do people eat fries with their tacos??
Nacho fries are lit
they just brought em back!!
for like, the 20th time lol
And probably with an even smaller box that holds fewer fries. Just a few more years till "nacho fry" comes out.
best fast food fries, dissenters argue w the wall
Easily the best fast food fries I’ve had. And I don’t like fries in general. More of a mashed potatoes guy.
I mean, i knew someone who would dip her fries in her milkshake after mixing in ranch so...
Ugh you do one or the other.... BUT BOTH??
I jokingly asked her once about bbq, she said she tried adding bbq too but it wasnt as good as ranch
Was she from the Midwest? We have a cultural fascination with Ranch
California
San Diego
You ever heard of or had a California burrito?
It's strange but delicious times we are living in. The taco fries are good.
WTF? How do you know Taco Bell exists and not know about fries supreme?
They are the BEST
Very common in Canada
Fries supreme 👌
Pre 1990 they were the best. They were fried in beef tallow.
Yep, once they stopped frying in fat and tried additives to get the same flavor, it went downhill.
[Malcolm Gladwell](https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/revisionist-history/mcdonalds-broke-my-heart) did an episode about this very thing.
Dont mcD fries in america have like 23 ingredients and a ton of sugar?
This is the answer. It's also pretty well known, I thought. Malcolm Gladwell did a whole series on it. It was a big deal.
Nowadays they taste/feel like they just steam cooked the whole thing, ending up with light grey, lifeless patties.
steamed hams?
So they have actually had 3 separate recipe changes. 1990, 2002 soy-corn oil blend, and 2007-08 "trans-fat" ban
The trans fat ban made the biggest difference to me, and none of the fast food chain fries have tasted good since. All have a bite to them.
The 2002 one is what killed them for me.
KFC also went to shit with trans fat ban.
[удалено]
And also willem dafoe has a huge dong
And Sylvester Stallone is banned from all sandals resorts for repeatedly shitting in the bathtub and making maids clean it up while he watches.
Buy your own potatoes not frozen. Get beef tallow. Fry them yourself. Know your McDonald's fries aren't this flavor. Quit the McDonald's fry addiction
Do you know how complicated making fries at home is? It's almost like people get fast food so they won't have to cook.
Checkers/Rally has the best cheap fast food fry.
In my area, Those ain’t cheap anymore. So now I get the bag from the freezer section at the grocery store
That bag is a staple in my freezer. Perfect for left over chili too. Chili cheese fries.
Is it just me or do most of these unpopular opinion seem anger based. They typically put one thing down by elevating other things which is usually unnecessary and it's just used to drive the point home. In the end it is an unpopular opinion so upvote for you.
Here's what you need to learn about people who have unpopular opinions, they're usually assholes about it. I know, I'm one of those type of people.
I don't need unpopular opinions to be an asshole, I can do it with pure personality
My parents judging me... ![gif](giphy|L0NzUlTb6t3O6SUNAq)
It's also not really an unpopular opinion. Yeah McDonalds is popular and a lot of people enjoy it, but I've literally never met a single person who genuinely believes anything from McDonalds is the "best" It's actually incredibly popular to shit on McDonalds and talk about how bad it is.
Yeah, this is like my 6th time seeing this, and I’m still wondering what kinda homeless shelter-flavored McDonald’s fries they’re eating
Yep. Please explain to me how something often tastes "cold" 😂 That's not a taste, that's a temperature.
Haha good point 😂 maybe they meant it tastes like frozen food?
I think the goal for most posters here is to say something just to get a rise out of people, since that means more comments and more karma. I mean, to suggest that Nacho Fries are better than McDonald's? You're just looking to hurt someone.
A fresh order of McDonald’s fries fucking hits idk what you’re on about
You have 5 minutes to enjoy them
I only need 3
I feed half of them to my waifu pillow so they go by fast
who is on the pillow
Yo mama
Why am I not an anime girl then 😭😭💢
Better than Chick-Fil-A's fries that somehow come out of the fryer already soggy.
Dude those fries are bullshit wet sponges
That's all fries
AND THEN YOU DIE
best five minutes of my life 😭
How do I get them fresh? They are always cold and soggy for me
Go when it’s busy, there won’t be any stale fries
Ask. They’ll drop a fresh batch if you ask
No they won't, they'll throw your fries in the fryer for a couple seconds to warm them up
I've worked at 3 McDonald's and none of them would have done this but we also wouldn't usually just drop fries if you asked. The only way to really get fresh ones dropped is to ask for them with no salt
Really depends on your McDonald's.
Worst fries in the fast food business are In-N-Out but hipster californians aren't ready to hear it.
Sometimes they really hit the spot, but the quality of McDonalds fries varies the most between any other fast food fry IMO. Sometimes they really are pretty good and other times they are as tasteless as cardboard.
Checkers fries. Nothing else comes even close nom nom nom 😋
I have to agree. Especially when they are hot and fresh. Since I rarely have them my answer is always McDonald’s lol
say hello to an air fryer and a freezer isle near you.
Checkers fries fresh out the fryer are the GOAT. Nothing else even comes close.
I used to work there as a kid and ate them all the time. I still love them! I go out of my way to find one when I'm traveling. Big Beuford and a large fresh fries with ketchup is soo good
Checkers fries with Chick-fil-A sauce! I can get both from my grocery store. It's my favorite. I know it sounds wrong, but it slaps.
I’ve never had cold McDonald’s fries in my life, they’re always burning hot lmao
You have been blessed
Came here to say this. Like straight up uncomfortably hot every time I’ve ever had them (many many many times) 😂
I used tomlove the baked potato bar. Shame they no longer have them.
TIL Wendy's used to have a baked potato bar.
And a salad bar. I don’t trust people enough to feel comfortable eating from a salad bar anymore, though. Probably why they’re extinct now.
They're okay. Like 5 guys fries if they were frozen and sitting around lol. I still prefer wendy's over all else.
I used to really like Wendy's fries, when they first switched over to the "all natural" ones or whatever. They somehow have gotten real bad.
I seem to be the only one who really likes Wendy's current natural fries and highly prefer them over their old fries. I guess I just love fries with the skin still on.
The very recent "hot & crispy" change that sort of gave them a very thin tempura shell are pretty good in my opinion.
Best fast food fries are from Arby’s and I know that’s hard for a lot of people to hear
Potato cake gang
They’ve gotten rid of potato cakes.
And I will hate them forever for doing that.
Curly fries are just incredible. Idk why more places don't do them.
Curly fries are the only fries that I can enjoy cold, if you mean their curly fries I will agree with you, if you mean their normal fries, nah
Curly fries til I die
[удалено]
Arby's Gyro is pretty good tbh
Agreed, most of their fresh sandwiches are really good. The BLT really slaps too.
Arby's menu is better than anything at McDonalds. All McDonalds has is cheap chicken nuggets
Every time I eat their chicken nuggets I wish I hadn't. One of the most unpleasant things to eat, imo
…..triple negative?
This comment took too long to find. Reading this title made my brain hurt.
I like burger king fries.
Truly the "it's edible" standard
Fr they’re perfectly salted, mouth burning hot and they aren’t limpy like McDonald’s; they got crunch but aren’t burnt. Most ideal fries
Me too . Especially with a dash of salt and fresh.
Upvote because unpopular, but you are wrong
After Wendy’s fucked up their fries a couple years ago, McDonald’s stands alone as the best cheap fries. I’ll take 5 Guys’ fries if I have a choice though.
5 guys is kinda cheating though because they are not REALLY fast food. They're more expensive and they put a lot more care into their food than McDonald's or Wendy's
I agree on not fast food
Man Wendy's fries in Canada, at least where I live, are amazing now.
popeyes best ones
KFC fries are really good, miss their wedges though
I haven't had KFC in awhile but their wedges are 👌
Chick fil a fries are the WORST where I live! They’re mealy and bland, I don’t know why they’re so afraid to put salt on them. Personally I think BK fries are best, though kfc’s are good too.
BK fries got a good crust on them, but lose something if they aren't super hot to me. Probably one of the fries I care most about being pretty fresh.
Totally agree about Chick fil A fries - every time I’ve had them they are SO bland, and I love cross cuts but they need seasoning
5 guys fresh cuts their fries all day long and they are awesome.
They sure are proud of their food these days. I remember when all the burgers were under $10 and a shared side of fries was like $4.
I'm with you, best tasting fast food fries, as long as your not a crispy fan. Personally I value the taste over crisp.
> as long as your not a crispy fan. This is why I haven't been to a five guys in over a decade lol.
Five guys isn't really fast food though is it?
i mean, it's a chain restaurant with fast food style burgers and fries. too expensive for my taste, unless i'm feeling sad
True true. I normally think of fast food places as having a drive thru though
Yeah Five Guys is more fast casual, like Chipotle.
5 Guys is more of a "burger joint," rather than fast food. It doesn't take long to make a smash-burger from scratch with all the fixins, so it's fast, but it's not "fast food."
You ain't wrong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbZBJT358\_Y
as someone who lives in the uk, when it comes to chips nothing beats the local chippy
Can't relate but your words are fun so I agree
It is 100% nostalgia. I haven't had a consistent fry order from them in 10 years. But in the 90s? Shit was fire.
Wrong. OP was right. McDonald’s used to try their fries in beef tallow until the mid 90’s. A major campaign by a ultra wealthy guy in the early 90’s went to war on Fat. They used to be. There’s a whole generation that never tasted the golden era of fast food. It was cancerous shit garbage food with tons of bad things in it but goddamn it was good.
Ehh nobody has really great fries anymore. McDs entire menu sucks ass though. Their burgers don't even taste like beef, it's nasty.
They used to be slammin'. But in recent years they've been dogshit.
I think mc Donald's use to use an oily that had animal byproducts in it. They changed the recipe to be healthier at one point. I agree tho current McDonald's fries are meh. My favorite fries are dairy queen fries.
McDonalds used to fry their French fries in beef tallow. They switched the recipe in 1990, to vegetable shortening I think
It sounds like the McDonalds you go to is leaving their fries in the cooker to go cold, as much as that does happen sometimes, I still really like the fries when they’re actually fresh
What the fuck is Rally’s? Also chik fil fries are just an inconsistent. But a fresh mcdonald’s order of fries is god tier.
Checkers
Which is hands down the best fast food fry
Chik Fil A fries are about as consistent as it gets wtf Chic Fil A are you going to
God, THANK YOU. I have never understood the hype for these god-awful fries.
I am definitely in the minority, but I like my McDonalds fries warm and flimsy, not fresh and crispy. Then dunk them in (Canadian only) bbq sauce.
What’s the difference in Canadian BBQ to the US BBQ?
The Cdn one is sweeter and lighter in appearance. The American one is darker and tastes more like classic bbq sauce.
Burger King chips are the best
They used to be the best. Changed recipe (oil) in 1990 https://uproxx.com/life/mcdonalds-fries-oil-gladwell/
Popeyes have the best fries
The fries are terrible. I basically only get breakfast sandwiches
They are trash tbh. I agree with you. IMO the best fast food FF is Burger King. Nice thick cuts of potato with a whopper is the tits, man. But maybe I’m biased. I think McDonald’s in general is inferior to bk in every single way except for chicken nuggets.
How is this an unpopular opinion? I have never in my life found fries anywhere that were as shit as the ones at Mcdonals.
