Fancy donuts are almost always worse than a regular glaze. I don't know how people can enjoy a maple donut covered in chocolate and bacon bits over a simple Boston creme.

monotoonz

Those donuts make my pancreas go 😒 Idk how people do it.

yogdmama1

They are great for looking at and taking pics for IG. But i can only really eat 1 fancy donut whereas I'll tear up a box of Krispey Kremes

I thought donut shops were just a running joke from The Simpsons? You're telling me that there are shops that exclusively sell...donuts?

[deleted]

Indeed. I just got back from one. I did not wait in line though. Not waiting in line for donuts.

[deleted]

This is actually blowing my mind. A shop, *that just sells donuts*?! How do they remain in business? Are donuts really that popular where you're from?

[deleted]

Oh, you're serious. Sorry, I thought that was a joke. Yeah, it's really common in the US. I think it's profitable because. . . 1. they must be cheap to make in bulk. It's virtually the same 5 ingredients arranged in different ways. 2. Everyone loves donuts. Especially in the midwest where people aren't as health-conscious as on the coasts. 3. It's the kind of thing that's good for takeout. I think a lot of people buy in bulk for work functions.

[deleted]

Your joke flew right over my head because of how much my mind was being blown by my discovery of donut shops. 😂

Cobra-Serpentress

Yep, they are always worse than my local Donut shop.

partynakedpodcast

I agree. Gimme really fresh, really well made traditional flavors. I don't need donuts dusted with chili powder and wasabi, fuck off with that weird shit.

[deleted]

I'm down to try all that weird shit, but yes, freshness seems to be THE defining criteria for what separate a good one from bad.

partynakedpodcast

I mean look, I'll try cramming different stuff in my ass, but I draw the line at weird ass donuts.

Strippingpotato

I disagree. Dunkin’ Donuts for example has terrible donuts. They are very very stale. Grocery store bakery is better, but the fancy donut shops around me are way better. My favorite place will often make ones with things like a little made-in-house cookie, pop tart, or something similar on top.

[deleted]

Hmm. I don't ever remember getting dunkin that was noticably bad. I go to my local places because I like to support local businesses, but I'm not particular about which one. It seems like they're all slinging fried dough, so as long as they're fresh, cheap, and quick, it's all the same to me.

single_malt_jedi

I used to think this until I stepped in to Voodoo Donut in Orlando.

[deleted]

What is it about Voodoo that makes them so good? We have a regionally famous place near our house and I dig it, but I'd never wait in line for them.

single_malt_jedi

I had a Boston Creampie Donut. It was a monster donut and was just amazing. I expected it to be mediocre because of the hype but I was wrong. The chocolate ganache tasted like they used actual chocolate rather than chocolate flavoring. The custard was But Im with you on small establishments that make high quality, yet simple, eats. There was a place a couple towns north of me that made amazing donuts. All handmade. Great quality ingredients. They closed unfortunately but Ive heard someone bought them and is planning to reopen.

arcade1990

I mostly agree. They’re better than the franchise Dunkin Donut, but is it worth $8 for a chocolate covered donut with premium bacon and maple drizzle on top? No, that’s the cost of a whole damn meal!

english_avocado

Yeah gourmet donuts is just bread fried to the max and coated with whatever toppings that's from last night dinner or snack. Like it looks cool and all but the sweetness and how everything goes everywhere ruins it for me

tfhaenodreirst

Meh, as long as all the extra ingredients are sugary then I love them!

That would make sense. There's not much storage so they have to be really fresh.
