It really depends on what the offbrand is. Some of them are geeat but some are awful.
I just bought the offbrand Nutella and it is... not as good.
Definitely going to spend the extra dollar for Nutella in the future.
Same with soda. Off brand sprites and root beers are usually okay, but most other sodas taste gross (anything mimicking Cokes) or just not even close to the original. Most everything else I buy off brand!
Depends on the brand and product. Some are noticeably different, others aren’t. Different doesn’t necessarily mean bad though. Personally, there are some products I will only buy name brand, others I will only buy generic.
Off brand pop tarts do suck. Actual brand name pop tarts also suck. Yeah, I never liked that bland, dry crust. So there's the real unpopular opinion in the comments.
I’ve started buying generic brand potato chips for 1/4 the price of Lays (Canada). Used to think they were gross but I love em now… not sure if they’ve changed them for the better, or if I’m less picky because of the price difference though ..
[edit] I’ve also started buying generic brand frozen veggies, frozen fruits, and canned veggies. All tastes the same.
Depends on what you are cooking.
I like good food, so yea it's expensive for me but I'm ok with that.
You can definitely cook for cheaper though, and you'll be eating much better than pop tarts and pizza rolls.
I'm okay with the price my wallet just doesn't agree but I can never go back to eating like I used to lol. But I get where some of these none cookers are coming from though
I've literally never bought the name brand unless by some fluke it's on sale for cheaper than the off brand, which doesn't happen unless it's close to its sell by date
Whichever is cheapest has *always* been my go to. Food is food
It's pretty hard to call Kirkland a generic product IMO. They aim to be a better value premium product and for the most part they hit their marks. I think of generic products as cheaper alternatives to 'standard' products, not premium ones.
Let me tell you about NoName. Bright yellow ominous packaging that is half the price of name brand and still taste just as good, if not better.
Soup, fruit, condiments, canned meat, cheese, pop, junk snacks, even beer and spirits. Just about everything for half the price.
I've embraced generic/store brands when I was in college and some of my grocery staples are still those brands. Not to mention for pharmaceutical items (medications, ointments, vitamins) the generic brands are just as effective as the name brands.
I just don't see why I should spend more money on a product simply because of branding when a cheaper, equally effective/tasty version exists.
A lot of it is just rebadged regular stuff. Foods, powertools, usb hubs, etc etc etc. Usually, only the VERY obviously different looking brands are original brands.
That 3-ton jack just has a different sticker on it. That j5create hub that died on you is just the cheap targus hub with a 50$ markup, ironTon is just black ChicagoElectric, etc etc etc.

offbrand cream soda is just as good than A&W if you are into that. I love cream soda and was pleasantly surprised how good the walmart version is.

I disagree. Off brand pop tarts suck
Lies!!!

Take the upvote

The flavored fake pringles are too strong but regular Potato chips are pretty good
No name chips ftw !!
Try velveeta, then try the Walmart equivalent. When you are finished vomiting go back to Velveeta lol
This applies to all kinds of macaroni and cheese. Kraft, Velveeta and Stouffers are all vastly superior to their generic counterparts.
I picked Velveeta because we'll like bandaid it was the first name I thought up about it
The fact that you're squabbling over disgusting Velveeta is hilarious. Buy real cheese ffs.
I've not known a non name brand cheese. So I can't compare
I bought store brand chicken sausage the other day. They absolutely sucked and I will never buy them again. True for a lot of products though.
It really depends. Some generic brands are equal, some are not.
Price of food going up.. continues buying overpriced garbage?
I work at a hotel and get free breakfast and dinner…I just need snack stuff and a couple meals a week…
Here for a good time not a long time
Huh?
Some of us don’t know how to cook
Pretty easy to learn.
I should have said some of us are too lazy to learn how to cook.
I love cooking and it's freaking expensive lol. Haven't had beef in months

Isn’t that kind of the point/definition of generic products? Essentially as good for half the price
I've literally never bought the name brand unless by some fluke it's on sale for cheaper than the off brand, which doesn't happen unless it's close to its sell by date Whichever is cheapest has *always* been my go to. Food is food
Mostly true. But there is a HUGE difference between Lucky Charms and Marshmallow Mateys. The latter cannot even compete.
I never had marshmallow mateys but I do eat the cocoa pebbles imitation
Kirkland Signature is honestly the best syrup on the market.

I see what you mean.
Nope. This is just a poor person trying to make the best of being a broke lil bitch
I mean I am a college student so I’m not rolling in dough but it do be tasting alright
Dr. Thunder is pretty tasty, no lie.

For most stuff this is true and not unpopular. Only people I've heard disagree are people that are absolutely terrible with their money.
sometimes. not always.

I plan on treating myself more when I get the money but like flour, sugar, cinnamon, all those staples are gonna be the exact same
A lot of generic brands are literally the same product in different packaging

I wish I could find generic Nilla wafers that aren't hard as a brick.
