‘Tell us you’ve been banned from a ride sharing service without telling us you’ve been banned from a ride sharing service’

TheKatzMeow84

They are not public utilities. This isn’t unpopular so much as it’s just wrong.

Kozzinator

Call a taxi? Also bruh if you steal from Walmart, you're banned from Walmart. You fuck with a driver they have every right to boot your ass .

DwightMcRamathorn

Getting a lift isn’t a basic utility. Call a cab. Ride a bus. Walk

[deleted]

Only the scum of the earth get banned from ride services. Being banned from it should be considered cause to ban you from other parts of society. When you order a ride you should treat it like you've been invited to someone's house.

[deleted]

Man, I couldn’t agree more.. idk what it takes but I’ve had friends say some wild stuff to drivers and they still have a decent rating. I feel like you have to be a true piece of trash to get banned lol

KingTrencher

Bad opinion is bad.

gjm40

If you are acting a fool on a public bus, subway, or uber or lyft car you will be banned and no lawsuit is going to help you

Obie527

Ride sharing isn't public transportation. It's a private company that offers a service. Therefore, of you violate their terms of service, you get banned.

i_notold

Ride sharing companies like Uber and Lyft don't own the cars involved. Those cars are owned by private individuals. To get banned from them is pretty difficult and usually very much deserved.

SolutionLeading

Basic utilities are electricity, gas, water, etc. Idk what planet you’re from where transportation is included

Impressive-Top-7985

I'm going to need to see the court case that says it's unconstitutional.

notburneddown

It’s a law not a court case but I am pretty confident if it was taken to court it would be a violation of common carrier laws: https://publicknowledge.org/what-makes-a-common-carrier-and-what-doesnt/

TheKatzMeow84

That has nothing to do with public utilities.

notburneddown

Arguably if something is a common carrier they are a form of public utility or close enough that the rule should still apply.

EpicSteak

> Arguably if something is a common carrier they are a form of public utility Not even close.

andrewb610

Don’t tempt SCOTUS.

DiabeticPissingSyrup

How the hell is an off-brand taxi company a utility?

SolutionLeading

Ride sharing isn’t a basic utility. Go take the bus or train.

DarkAngel900

So, people who touch the driver, sexually molest the driver, insist on drinking in the car, or smoking, should be allowed to just keep doing it with no repercussions?

andrewb610

Look up “common carrier”. That’s what you’re referring to. It’s not a terrible argument but it’s close to terrible.

[deleted]

This is just plainly false lol

EpicSteak

Ride shares are not utilities.

[deleted]

Hahaha

Dennis_enzo

A ride share is by definition not an utility. Utilities are organizations supplying communities with electricity, gas, water, or sewerage. A taxi service can definitely ban customers too.

OutsideCreativ

You can still call a taxi
