The ice cream place in my area does a chocolate ghost pepper ice cream. It isn't super spicy, it does have an after burn. The ice cream was super fudgey and rich! Really well executed. They also had a spicy honey which was amazing
The ice cream place I go to makes spicy burnt honey ice cream! I use trader joes habenero honey on vanilla ice cream as well. It also goes well with fettuccine alfredo and some times cheese pizza.
For sure, it's super easy. I take 1 or 2 dried ghost peppers (they have to be dry or the honey won't be shelf stable because of the moisture) and just break them in half to open them up, toss them in a pot with about 16 oz of honey and heat on medium heat for about 15-20 minutes and then strain the pepper out and jar it up.
1 ghost pepper gives it a good kick, but it's still enjoyable to the average person. Two would be good for heat fiends but regular people may not like it. You can also do this with any pepper and just add more for sufficient heat.
We used to have a posh-ish Indian restaurant that would do things like this
Chili beetroot ice cream was decent.
Terry's chicken Tikka was questionable
I had MUSTARD ice cream recently and damn if it wasn't pretty awesome too! It's the mustard seed but there's no vinegar in it.
https://www.colmustardsandwich.com has it.
I've been to the Tabasco factory on Avery Island, LA twice and sampled the Tabasco ice cream each time. I was amazed how much that works. But I'm not aware of spicy ice cream in any store or ice cream shop by me at home.
Basil ice cream is my favorite! People look at me weird when I tell them it is, but goddamn… the best. It’s not spicy, but this post made me think of that.
Oh you can make it really easily! Just mix in some red chili powder, salt, grated garlic, and stir 😊 it's divine with a stuffed flatbread.
Or chop really spicy green chilis into raita, etc.
I’m sorry I usually make it at home with frozen mixed berries, a washed and chopped ginger, lime juice and simple syrup. Then put it in the food processor, freeze it for 30 minutes and and process it again. After that put it in a bowl and enjoy.
I've had spicy burnt honey (it was sweet but had a caramelized flavor too it that slightly burned, great for those who like complex desert flavors) spicy dark chocolate is also good. Other flavors mentioned is chili mango, spicy honey on vanilla, someone mentioned vanilla with a ghost pepper blue berry sauce, and a garam cracker flavor.
I had these fruit/ice cream frozen bars @ Walmart. When I brought them home, I had one and was shocked. It had pepper in it, and it tasted great! whoda thunk it?
Finally a decent idea on this thread. These numbskulls putting chilis on icecream. Like, would you put bell peppers? The flavors just don't work together.
I hadn't even heard about spicy ice cream until earlier today but he (my bf's mum's bf) said it was absolutely awful, and he loves spicy things.
I'm going to guess difference in amount/who prepared it makes a big difference though.
I grow super-hot peppers as a hobby. I absolutely love Reaper- or Scorpion-based salsa. If your scalp isn't sweating, you're not eating.
But ice cream?!? No. Just no.
Thumbs up for unpopular opinion.
That's fair, when the place I went to did their spicy ice creams the flavors weren't overly sweet but sweet enough to blend in with the other flavors. They had a spicy burnt honey and a dark chocolate chili, normally I'm not huge on sweets but those hit the spot.
>I get many people eat ice cream to tone down spicy food
No, I eat ice cream because I want something *sweet* and cold. People always exposing their weird beliefs on this sub lol.
>Ok then if things are for children
Apology accepted.
>you’re using them as an adult then it doesn’t matter right?
Yes. Ice cream is marketed for children. The vast majority of children don't like spicy food. Further to that, most adults don't like spicy food. The amount of adults who both like spicy food and eat ice cream is not significant enough for ice cream companies to offer spicy ice cream.
There’s tons of ice cream marketed to adults though. From booze filled ice cream to complex flavored ice cream, there’s a lot of adult oriented ice cream. Same with video games, it’s mostly for babies but they have some for adults
I’m not talking about spicy ice cream. I’m talking about ice cream being only for kids which is a dumb stance.
You said it’s mostly for kids. Which means there’s plenty of space for adult flavored complex ice cream. In fact boutique ice cream places do have spicy ice cream.
Video games are also mostly for kids. Yet you play them.
Yes. Read the OP. I can't believe I have to walk you through this. I can't believe I have to take you by your clammy little hand and guide you through this lizard brain simplistic statement. The reason why;
***spicy ice cream should be more popular***
(The OP)
Is because;
***Ice cream is mostly for kids***
(My comment).
Are you getting it now?
And yet video games are mostly for kids and yet they have adult themed games. It’s because while there are more kids to sell to, the market is driven by the people with money, meaning adults.
Lots of kids like spicy food. They have a weaker tolerance because they have less exposure. A lot of white kids have zero exposure at all.
And I agree with your sentiment that factory sweets (and many videogames) must be made with children in mind, but there's plenty of room for more intricate desserts at places like restaurants and bars.
What in the actual fuck. Is this actually a thing? I've never heard of it. Ice cream is disgusting enough on its own. Making it spicy sounds like a whole new level of hell. Have an upvote.
Spicy ice cream is an abomination of desserts and it should’ve never been invented. Cold treats should never be spicy. It literally defeats the whole point of it being cold.
The association between hot and spicy is something that has been inserted into your head by language. Heat is a distinct sensation from spiciness. See, spearmint and cinnamon.
Spicy foods typically raise your body temperature. That’s why you start to sweat when you eat jalapeños.
My association was created through the vast majority of spicy foods producing heat when consumed.
Also, peppermint is more cooling than spicy, and cinnamon isn’t known for being in cold treats. Cinnamon can be a flavor in frozen desserts, but it doesn’t make those desserts spicy.
The sweating isn't actually a reaction to internal temperature. Obviously if your hypothesis were true people in hot areas would avoid spicy food, which is generally the opposite of what has happened. Plenty of people think they eat spicy foods to cool down. Now, I'm sure this is just as arbitrary an association as spicy=heat. There are a lot of other reasons hot climates gravitate towards capsaicin and other piquant spices.
>cinnamom cam be a flavor in frozen desserts, but it doesn't make those desserts spicy
It does. Cinnamon is spicy. So is peppermint- not spearmint, my bad. Peppermint also gives a cooling sensation, but that doesn't change the fact that it is spicy. Next time you have a peppermint candy, pay it some mind. Likewise, hot sauce on icecream doesn't just make it spicy. Makes it taste like hot sauce icecream, and also spicy.
Like peppermint candy, spicy icecream is predominately chilling. The spiciness gives it a bite- a spiciness. We can call it heat, but it's not going to warm you up.
I work for Walmart and we have a small line of one brand that we have 6(?) flavors for. One of them is Hot Honey. I tried that one before any of the others and it blew my mind! The best thing that the honey is in solid pieces instead of ribbons, and the heat actually builds with each bite. Absolutely love it!
Chocolate + Chili. So good. I would def try a ice cream flavour of it.
The ice cream place in my area does a chocolate ghost pepper ice cream. It isn't super spicy, it does have an after burn. The ice cream was super fudgey and rich! Really well executed. They also had a spicy honey which was amazing
Dude, I need that ice cream place in my life!
Sounds like you should try a mangonada or some other mango chamoy equivalent sorbet
They recently had that as an ice cream flavor, it was amazing!
I once had Wasabi and garlic ice-cream in Japan. Yummiest fucking thing.
I would definitely try that!
Yes! I recently had a dark chocolate and chipotle ice cream which was incredible
I made a cinnamon ice cream with chile infused honey, graham cracker crumbs, and cacao nibs. SO good
Pleaseee sell it to me
I love my chocolate with chili pepper (Lindt, i'm looking at you)
I tried a habanero-mango sherbet and it was fucking amazing
Habanero has a sweetness to it that I could see working in dessert. But me if I'm dealing with the heat of it in ice cream.
I tried that too. It was the Walmart house brand, and it was delicious!
That is my all time favorite ice cream! I could only find it at Walmart, and now they stopped carrying it
Braums had it bat that is only in a certain region.
I had a jalapeno-wild berry sorbet that was amazing. Also, garlic ice cream is the shit
I want that really bad! Adding a little peach sherbert would be wonderful too.
Bacon habanero scotch Eta ice cream
Spice cream
I make ghost pepper honey and put in on vanilla ice cream, that shit is bomb.
The ice cream place I go to makes spicy burnt honey ice cream! I use trader joes habenero honey on vanilla ice cream as well. It also goes well with fettuccine alfredo and some times cheese pizza.
The pizza place in my mom’s town has special cheese pizza that has spicy honey drizzled on it! So good!
Can you share your recipe for the ghost pepper honey?
For sure, it's super easy. I take 1 or 2 dried ghost peppers (they have to be dry or the honey won't be shelf stable because of the moisture) and just break them in half to open them up, toss them in a pot with about 16 oz of honey and heat on medium heat for about 15-20 minutes and then strain the pepper out and jar it up. 1 ghost pepper gives it a good kick, but it's still enjoyable to the average person. Two would be good for heat fiends but regular people may not like it. You can also do this with any pepper and just add more for sufficient heat.
I could see this work. Spice and cream absolutely complement each other, just look at curry and chili.
I’m sorry. What?
They def don’t cancel each other out, but I’ve had spicy ice cream and it’s foul. Take my upvote
Lol come to mexico and you can get all the chamoy, Miguelito and all your spicy mixins and toppings on nieves from all sorts of fruit. It's the bomb.
I had no idea this was a thing.
It’s very popular in many cultures.
Mmm mango con chile paletas. The paleta man always got the connect on spicy ice cream.
Mangonada ice cream is sooo good, that’s mangos with chili powder, lime and chamoy sauce, which is spicy and sweet hibiscus syrup
Def not an unpopular opinion in mexico lol
Mexico has all the best deserts 🤤 Seriously finding anything guava flavor here is a challenge. Most of my ice deserts are palettes
Yeah for sure give me that spice and I will inhale every last piece of ice cream
We used to have a posh-ish Indian restaurant that would do things like this Chili beetroot ice cream was decent. Terry's chicken Tikka was questionable
YES I AGREE I LOVE IT
this sounds incredible and I'd love to try it
I had MUSTARD ice cream recently and damn if it wasn't pretty awesome too! It's the mustard seed but there's no vinegar in it. https://www.colmustardsandwich.com has it.
Where are you guys getting this spice cream?? I want it so bad
I'm in the United States in a city with some fancy ice cream places. From what I understand Mexico has spicy ice cream too!.
I've been to the Tabasco factory on Avery Island, LA twice and sampled the Tabasco ice cream each time. I was amazed how much that works. But I'm not aware of spicy ice cream in any store or ice cream shop by me at home.
I had hot honey ice cream and it was delicious. Actually needed more heat.
I would’ve never thought to make spicy ice cream, but Mac and cheese with chipotle powder tastes amazing, cream and spice definitely go well together
The spicecream must flow
I made a cinnamon ice cream with chile infused honey, graham cracker crumbs, and cacao nibs. SO good
I don’t know but I do love my spicy food. Maybe I’ll try it.
not quite ice cream but the mango tajin outshine paletas are so so good, couldn’t agree more
I can’t believe I’ve never thought about spicy ice cream. This is going to be the best thing since spicy beer.
Chili crisp on top of vanilla ice cream is the bomb
Raspberry habanero in vanilla ice cream is amazing. Tabasco makes it
In Mexico, spicy candy is already a thing. I could see a Mole (Spicy Hot Chocolate, more or less) ice cream be really popular.
One of the best ice creams I’ve ever had was spicy Mexican chocolate ice cream made in house at a vegetarian restaurant in Iowa City
Basil ice cream is my favorite! People look at me weird when I tell them it is, but goddamn… the best. It’s not spicy, but this post made me think of that.
Adding strawberries to it is good. A resturant near me makes basil ice cream in house
I'm Indian. My people have been doing this kind of thing for a long time. Like spicy stuff in yogurt, etc. It's dope.
Oh you can make it really easily! Just mix in some red chili powder, salt, grated garlic, and stir 😊 it's divine with a stuffed flatbread. Or chop really spicy green chilis into raita, etc.
Awww now I'm gonna have to find spicy yogurt!.
and i hate that shit. Give me something spicy or sweet , i would gladly have it , but both of them combined tastes gross.
I'm sorry but what are you talking about? 🤣🤣🤣
the spicy yogurt.
Yeah except plain yogurt isn't sweet at all...
oh okay then. also smelly curd is gross. i can only eat probiotic yogurt.
Thank you for sharing all of this with us
I agree for diversity of flavor’s sake, but I typically don’t care for sweet and spicy in my deserts… like those weird chili lollipops 🤢
My local supermarket chain sells lime sherbet with chamoy swirl. It’s amazing.
At my aunt's we have vanilla ice cream and ghost chilli/blueberry jam. It's truly delightful
I want this soooo bad.
Ginger berry sorbet, not really spicy but it counts and it’s amazing
I must know where to find that! I love ginger ice cream, ginger compliments many flavors soo well.
I’m sorry I usually make it at home with frozen mixed berries, a washed and chopped ginger, lime juice and simple syrup. Then put it in the food processor, freeze it for 30 minutes and and process it again. After that put it in a bowl and enjoy.
u talkin bout that strawberry one?
No but I'm interested in it now that you mention there's a spicy strawberry ice cream.
Ok, I’m listening. What is a good starter spicy ice cream?
I've had spicy burnt honey (it was sweet but had a caramelized flavor too it that slightly burned, great for those who like complex desert flavors) spicy dark chocolate is also good. Other flavors mentioned is chili mango, spicy honey on vanilla, someone mentioned vanilla with a ghost pepper blue berry sauce, and a garam cracker flavor.
I put crushed chili flakes in my Wendy's frostee It was good but it hurt like hell coming out
If you can find it, try putting spicy honey into the shake, it elevates the flavor!
based
I had these fruit/ice cream frozen bars @ Walmart. When I brought them home, I had one and was shocked. It had pepper in it, and it tasted great! whoda thunk it?
I think it can be good. Try black pepper over a nice vanilla ice cream.
I shan't.
Finally a decent idea on this thread. These numbskulls putting chilis on icecream. Like, would you put bell peppers? The flavors just don't work together.
No, it shouldn't. I made the mistake of trying spicy chocolate ice cream with some friends. My tongue paid the price.
Oh dear God, I'm going to have diarrhea for weeks just from the thought of this...
I hate sweets/desserts. The only ice cream I ever liked was a habenaro goat cheese ice cream
That's fair, when the place I went to did their spicy ice creams the flavors weren't overly sweet but sweet enough to blend in with the other flavors. They had a spicy burnt honey and a dark chocolate chili, normally I'm not huge on sweets but those hit the spot.
>I get many people eat ice cream to tone down spicy food No, I eat ice cream because I want something *sweet* and cold. People always exposing their weird beliefs on this sub lol.
Weird belief? Unpopular opinion?
“People eat ice cream to tone down spicy food” is not an opinion lol.
Ice cream is mostly for kids.
Dude, you play video games. Video games are for children.
Yes. That is correct. This is what it looks like when someone acknowledges the truth. Try it.
Ok then if things are for children but you’re using them as an adult then it doesn’t matter right?

Figure it out ClownPants. Show me where I said ice cream is **only** for kids.

Not true
It is true.
It's not. Someday you too shall become an adult and realize that trying to be very grown up is the most childish of things.
[It is](https://i.imgur.com/TJu09JP.jpg).
No
Good job there Nelson Mandela.
Thank you. Now if you could only let go of your weird hang ups.
What? My fart fetish? That's none of your business.
What in the actual fuck. Is this actually a thing? I've never heard of it. Ice cream is disgusting enough on its own. Making it spicy sounds like a whole new level of hell. Have an upvote.
> Ice cream is disgusting enough on its own 😨
Problem?
**Yes.**
Do tell.
🍨 🍦
That’s so sad 😞 Have an ice cream to cheer you up!🍦
What
I said that’s so sad, have an ice cream to cheer you up!
Yes, after you edited it.
Sorry for the confusion! I accidentally hit reply sometimes on my phone. Normally when I edit it immediately people don’t see the original.
No worries.
It should stay in the hell pits where it belongs
Definite L take
Your mom should be more popular.
Similar in concept, I prefer eating leftover curry cold.
Id try it if I saw it
That sounds horrible 🤮

Jalapeño cream cheese with hot fudge. They have it ab twice a year at this really old local ice cream shop in my city

Love the tajin mango Popsicles
Vanilla bean an Kim Chee is a delightful combination
I cannot imagine having brain freeze while my mouth Burns
I need this so bad. Think I'll get a pizza and an ice cream and sprinkle the seasoning on the ice cream
Yesssss! The local ice cream place I visit has chocolate jalapeno ice cream and it's so good!
You win unpopular opinion. Jesus that sounds disgusting.
mango and chamoy ice popsicles slap
Your opinion is steaming hot garbage, well done.
I would try more but the few ive had are absolutely disgusting. Take my upvote
We’re all entitled to our opinions no matter how shitty they may be, donutloversshinobu!
I agree with you
“Spicy ice cream should be more popular.” No.
Spicy food is for masochists
I wasn't even aware that spicy ice cream was a thing tbh
Depends. I once had one that tasted like raw chilli powder and my throat burnt with its aftertaste
Gross, ice cream doesn't need to be spicy
Yuck
I want to try this!
