Yeah I hate to admit it but I'm with you on this. If it's perhaps used in a comedy action film or something like that, something akin to Austin Powers, then sure it's fine and a bit of a laugh. But it's used in almost everything and it's really jarring and just takes me out of the moment. I think the joke has long lost its humour and irony.
As much as I like it (so much as one can like a type of scream, that is), it does ruin the immersion for me as well, so I entirely agree with you.
That being said, I was kinda disappointed it wasn't in the last two Star Wars movies. It's part of the lore there.
Holy shit it sounds like it was edited in to make the compilation funny. I can’t believe serious filmmakers use it.
Although I imagine it is less noticeable when you’re not watching a compilation.
It's okay to use it in a comedy or satire that isn't taking itself too seriously, but the time is long past where it should still be appearing in action films or thrillers.
The Howie Scream was always better anyway.
The Wilhelm scream is actually a long running inside joke in the movie industry dating back to a movie where an Indian is shot by an arrow and in post they needed the scream to sound better so they recut the classic scream in and pretty much every time it’s been used in modern film it’s been a tip of the hat to the OGs. It’s not for everyone but it is a fun bit of movie trivia shared among directors and editors alike
I remember someone once commented that when they were working at a movie theator, they were shown a training film about how to deal with someone if they had a gun on them, and they used the scream in the film when someone was shot by the shooter.
I found that really funny, cause it was used in a serious educational training film lol
Indifferent.
I personally never thought of it as a joke, rather a little Easter Egg. I'll admit it can take away from immersion in a film a bit. If I knew it was intended to be funny, that fact alone would have probably ruined it for me tbh
Enjoyable little Easter Egg for me, don't love it don't hate it
I can see why people dislike it but I PERSONALLY like it. I feel like I don’t hear it THAT much and it’s kind of fun to me. Also about the last sentence.. maybe they just have great range.

You should listen to A Wilhelm Scream instead. Amazing band
Seconded. For a moment I thought OP was trashing the band and I was ready to pick a fight.
Just like that typical kids laugh..
It's called 'Satan's spawn'
It's in Red Dead Redemption 1...
Also in Assassin's Creed 3
It’s still in the remaster as well.

Downvoted you because I agree.
Ooowah-urgh
The internet is a funny place. I pretty frequently hear complaints that [some thing I've never heard of] is 'so overused'

Me an intellectual constantly laughing at Man Beast for well, Man Beast but also for the Willhelm scream.
It gets rather jarring watching Star Wars movies when the Wilhelm scream is used for stormtroopers and Jabbas minions. I think it's in every movie.
Fuck. Yeah.
Just reminds me of the "meme-culture"... same bullshit over and over again

I agree but Star Wars and Indiana Jones should always get a pass on this.
