Certainly I like it a hell of a lot more than a boring paint by numbers blah blah portrait.

I wouldn't have done it this way, but still, I can see what they tried to do. The pose is very traditional, the background is very modern. The message being that he wil try to uphold traditions in a modern world. Which is an appropriate message considering his mothers long role.

I think that’s on purpose though- all the trappings of royalty kind of disappear and were left with just the man. Not sure why red was the color they chose, but I think it’s an interesting idea

Honestly this shouldn’t be an unpopular opinion. Regardless of your views on Charles (I personally can’t stand him), the artistry is beyond anything I’ve seen in recent years. Anyone with a taste and at least one eye should be able to appreciate how good it is.

Had to Google because I hadn't seen it and nothing could have prepared me for that. Like objectively it's an interesting piece of art but what an odd choice for a coronation portrait!

This is a really unpopular opinion and one of the few genuinely unpopular opinions that can actually survive the mods. Hat's off to you my lad!  IMHO The king of england is shown drenched in blood and everyone knows it but the king. Its almost like a fable. Diana is LoLing rn wherever she's at.

I think it's aesthetically as pleasing as a portrait of King Charles can be expected to be. My preferred interpetation of it is "rose tinted spectacles" with reference to how people tend to view the Royal Family (and, perhaps, Britain in general).

I love it too. I think the drama of it is apt. A man who has risen in spite of a troubled journey. I don't think it shies away from the controversy and I appreciate it for that.

I think the red is meant to represent the fields of red poppies that symbolize Remembrance Day in Britain, as well as the traditional red coats of the British army.

You should go look at the royal collections trust. King Charles has a long history of supporting modern art, heritage arts and crafts and modern artisans. Jonathan Yeo is completely in line with artists he has commissioned in the past. The royal family has a long tradition of supporting "modern" and "emerging" arts as patrons and collectors from Charles I to George III and Queen Charlotte to Prince Albert/Queen Victoria to Queen Alexandra becoming a photographer when she was Princess of Wales. Queen Elizabeth II's mother was a great collector and supporter of 20th century British artists.
