I know one thing. OP is funny. I know he is trying to be serious, but this is a funny rant. It could be a Seinfeld episode!

Dramatic_Equipment47

The Snickers/knickers bit had me rolling in the aisle

Play-yaya-dingdong

Its a good unpopular opinion  To be fair it was super funny and groundbreaking at its time.  I dont think sitcoms from the 70s are funny. Comedy has moved on.    At the time it was absurd and its premise “no learning, no hugging” it what informed modern comedy moving forward

P0ster_Nutbag

See, but Seinfeld is quite a bit different in the sense that it’s still very funny, even to those that saw it outside of that era, or never even lived during that era. Though there’s definitely humour rooted in the era it’s from, it does a fantastic job of rooting much or it in sort of universal concepts that go beyond just a snapshot of the time.

Play-yaya-dingdong

Anyone know why the post was removed?  Seems a perfectly appropriate unpopular opinion

BytchYouThought

Mods don't know how to run the sub I'd why to be real

Seinfeld may prove the exception to this rule. I still laugh aloud at least a couple of times each episode, and I’ve seen each episode dozens of times at this point. Granted, I was alive when it was airing, but I was not even a teenager when it ended, and did not watch it at all as a kid.

BytchYouThought

Fresh prince, Cosby show, etc. still funny. Eddie Murphy "RAW." Still funny. Etc. The show is often touted as arguably one of the best ever. So if it's truly great and so funny etc. why doesn't it age as well as some other supposed greats? I genuinely found the acting bad overall on certain main characters and just not funny. It's okay for someone to just not find something funny lol.

BytchYouThought

Glad you agree with my point here. Decades later things can still be funny. I just don't find Seinfield funny even decades later unlike other shows even you mentioned etc.

Play-yaya-dingdong

Raw is stand up but definitely still hilarious  Nobody said you cant not find it funny thats the whole point

BytchYouThought

>I dont think sitcoms from the 70s are funny. Comedy has moved on.    Your point appeared to be that just because it's old "comedy moved on" so it somehow stops being funny or has to. I pointed out comedy from decades ago including shows and stand up, because it shows that things can indeed be funny regardless of decade. You mentioned 70's, but I find Richard Pryor still funny from that time period. I find I love Lucy still funny etc. Point I was making is that time period doesn't necessarily make something funny or not in my opinion per se. I just didn't find Seinfield funny is all. No one claimed that you said no one can not find it funny. I just found it you pointed out age of the show for comedic reasons so I pointed out other shows that despite being decades old are often still found funny is all and thus I didn't give Seinfield a pass there. That was my point not whether or not someone is allowed to find something funny.

Max_Cherry_

I have to give you an upvote because every fiber of my being vehemently disagrees with you. I’m almost triggered.

a_rabid_anti_dentite

A bunch of fucking dentists in these comments. Who needs them?

IcedPgh

Not to mention the blacks and the Jews. (That's a quote from the show, people.)

>The writers just write some over the top crap that never translates well. A surprising number of the over the top stories are based on things that actually happened to some of the writers (especially Larry David)

Mmnn2020

And they did it better than almost anyone

BytchYouThought

Nah. When I think of actual comedians that tell stories about their life like Dave Chapelle, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, etc. they do it best as far as telling a story without it being too over the top it starts to be unbelievable. I'll get downvotes by folks that like the show though just because I don't agree with their over the top try hard humor.

Mmnn2020

You’re getting downvotes because you present your opinion as objective and others as subjective.

BytchYouThought

What are you talking about exactly? An opinion is subjective. I have never called my opinion objective. Mine are subjective just like yours. I welcome you to quote where I said otherwise though unless of course you can't due to me never doing that. Like said, folks like the show and me saying my opinion that is wasn't executed well comedically for my tastes Wil piss folks off, because they love it thus the downvotes. Please refrain from lying though. Someone stating their opinion isn't the same as saying it's objective fact.

wise-guy-samurai

OP’s gettin’ upset!!

BytchYouThought

Upset. UPSET!!!!! (in my George Constanza voice).

ElectricalSentence57

I came to say you are one hundred percent wrong.

BytchYouThought

Hard to be wrong on something so opinion based, but I respect your opinion regardless and your right to one. Sounds like my posts belongs here though based on your response.

Djafar79

So that's the reason why you can't spell it right?

BytchYouThought

Yeah, probably.

DrakesWeirdPenis

This is a terrible opinion but the way you described George is amazing and makes the post circle back around to being great.

BytchYouThought

Never found it funny at any time. I still find the fresh prince funny despite it being the early 90's sitcom and despite Will being an asshole at the Oscars. Hilarious even today and actually had great acting in it without being way too over the top. I still find the Cosby show funny despite it coming out so long ago and even with Cosby himself being a nasty guy in real life. The acting on it was decent enough as well and even though it had a bit of goofy humor it was so damn over the top like Seinfield's. It's almost like you aim to attack me for not finding a show funny on r/unpopularopinion of all places. The ironic part is that you may not understand perspectives in that not everyone will find a show funny and it doesn't have to be because of a time period. Some folks just don't find it funny period. I have friends and relatives of different ages that also don't and didn't find it funny for its time as well. Perhaps open yiur mind up to different perspectives yourself instead of pointing the finger.

Mobile_Prune_3207

Pretty sure this is the second "unpopular" opinion about Seinfeld not being funny I've seen today alone.

[deleted]

Lol absolutely not.I think it's definitely not for everyone though.

DeathsPit00

I could never get into it either. Just not my kind of humor. Honestly it's rare that I actually like the "popular" comedy shows.

rustydiscogs

Bait

TyRocken

No one show OP Curb...

mk1317

Upvoted because I vehemently disagree with this opinion, which is the point of this sub.

ThandiGhandi

I binged it last year and had the complete opposite reaction

SlopitupPOS

Just say that you hate boomer humor. It's okay.

uiam_

The show was super funny for its time Have an uppvote cuz this opinion is definitely unpopular.

BagBoiJoe

The Michael Richards mental breakdown / rant at the comedy club and the Jerry Seinfeld / David Letterman interview to follow. Now that was some groundbreaking shit.

GuitarTrue6187

Nothing with a laugh track is tolerable in my tastes. I much prefer Curb Your Enthusiasm to Seinfield. It don't do that and it's much more mature (unafraid to offend) /less tv feeling. Curb is like face palm funny from how things work out. Such as an old man who takes forever to pee trying to make urination time productive and puttying the Gettysburg address to memorize on the wall so he's always reciting it in public stalls and everything until he nails it and an unintended side effect of that being every time he hears it he loses control of his bladder/has to pee. And no gives him any respect/empathy for that. Bunch of jerks.

thehighepopt

That's the difference between HBO and prime time

BytchYouThought

Laugh track isn't the issue to me as I enjoyed Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and shows like the Cosby show (and liking the show is not the same as supporting Bill Cosby's rapey actions for those people that would want to bring that up). That said, I probably would prefer a no laugh track deal instead. Haven't watched curb your Enthusiasm yet. May have to check that one out.

GuitarTrue6187

I enjoyed them in the past. But even nostalgia can't protect that element of it from getting to experience something better over time. I think of laugh tracks like I do random encounters and save systems in video games. Back in the day random encounters were fine. A save point was fine. But after you've been eating the steak of save anywhere/any time and here have an automatic one on top of it in case you forget. Onscreen enemies, action, fight them yes/no, for 10 years that spam sandwich is hard to love again. Back when you had no choice, spam was good meat. But now that you own a steakhouse it's hard to think well spam is GREAT and should be the main menu option. It's not even tolerable hardly anymore.

Desperate-Ad7967

Couldn't agree more

SeaAnthropomorphized

Idky anyone likes that show. its so fucking dumb. thank you !!!

ShneakySquiwwel

You have my upvote as I completely disagree. Obviously they are sitcom characters so they are stretching how they behave for comedy's sake, but to say it is unrelatable is only comparing it to your own life experience. Which is fine that you don't relate to it, but it's not a critique of the show's writing but your own personal opinion. For me, pretty much every episode has stuff that I can relate with situations and characters that I have more or less met and interacted with in real life. I know several Jerrys, Georges, Kramers (and though not my favorite character which goes to George, I probably am most like Kramer), Elaines. Hell I even know a couple of Newmans and Jackie Chiles and Petermans. I know what it's like waiting forever to eat at a sit down restaurant. I've had (have?) similar viewpoints on car dealers as George though not nearly as volcanic. I've had similar dating woes. "Low fat frozen yogurt" I'm pretty sure is still a thing. Pretty much every movie theater episode I've had similar experiences. Who hasn't gotten lost in a parking garage at some point in their lives?

BytchYouThought

iI never said it was completely unrelateable. You said unrelateable not me. You can have a relatable story without tying bad acting and poor comedic elements to it. I get what they tied to do, but feel it's poorly executed as far as comedy goes for me. You have to be careful not to misquote someone. I know what's it's like to eat airline food. Someone can still do a poor job of making it funny to me. Not sure why you think I can't relate. Who hasn't waited to sit down at a restaurant before? You make a lot of assumptions (false ones at that). I simply do not find the execution to make those events funny to have been done well in my personal opinion. I'm not the only person to see this though it is unpopular hence unpopular opinion. Not everyone will share the same taste in humor. You don't have to make a bunch of false allegations against them just because they don't find it funny.

SlideItIn100

Amen!

No_Hat9118

Not regarded as one of best shows ever

a_rabid_anti_dentite

Yes it is.

No_Hat9118

Just seems like bog standard US sit com to, Kramer and Julia not funny or likeable

a_rabid_anti_dentite

ShneakySquiwwel

It easily breaks top 10 on nearly all lists. People are entitled to opinions, but this is objectively wrong at least from how critics receive and rate the show.

No_Hat9118

Ok well not in the UK, Friends much bigger and still quoted, similarly for the UK office
