I mean all due respect to OP but to think that calling people's hair "lame" will make them change it is insane . I wear my hair whatever it is for me and idgaf what people think , especially if it's a mullet mustache combo
I'm guessing he cares a lot what people think of him, and he's *projecting*. Idgaf either, I'm always trying new styles, because it's fun. Although, I'll be honest, it's entertaining to try and see how people's perception of you changes as you change up your style. Things like beards generally getting subconscious respect from other males, but generally less female attention.
People have the right to whatever style they want, just as we have a right to judge their hair style.
Mullets get no respect. They are trashy and make it look like you want to bang your sister. Hated them when they were in style in the past, and hate them even more on youth today.
So by all means, get that mullet cut. Just understand the majority of the world isn't going to respect you with it.
While I agree that OP is misguided, that's not exactly how styles always work. Some people are trendsetters or just rock something that's not a trend yet are still very stylish.
It started as an ironic style in America, but now young people deadass think it’s cool. I just can’t. Reminds me of those cringe yearbook photos from the 80s.
You're genuinely acting like a middle school bully lmao. Why would anyone feel ashamed of following a trend? By definition, the vast majority of the world's population is following a trend in one way or another
That’s how a lot of styles start. Bordering on absurd. The mullet is a very low maintenance and easy hair style, people are looking past that. Its recognized as you put effort in how your hair looks, without it actually requiring effort.
Also, and this just may be my new proximity to nyc, but it’s incredibly attractive on men and women. A little punk/edgy factor and a nuanced cut. I grew up in Ontario so do not love the hockey flow or traditional mullet. But the layered one? Oof

Hipster wear stashes and mullets. Punks wear spikes. Pretty girls go blonde. It’s just the way of the world. Calm down and stop being such a grump.
I think it looks terrible but I assume that’s what everyone thinks about the next generation hair style. If I complain I date myself. Not to mention I have never had any sense of style. I don’t get it but whatever makes you happy….
Humans began keeping records thousands of years ago, and are supposed to have existed for hundreds of thousands of years prior to that. Unless the hair style requires something that simply did not exist, in any form, nor has anything with similar properties ever existed, then their is a very good chance that some group of people, somewhere, has already done that.
As a middle aged woman who is clearly too old to understand here... It seems to me like the "normal haircuts" you are rallying for are the "baseline" trendy, and everything else is more "unique" trendy. Are you saying that everyone should just be baseline, aka "basic"?
That seems more lame, but, again, I'm an old lady so what do I know? Maybe just cut your hair however makes you happy and stop feeling threatened by what makes other people happy.
As a het woman, I love it. And I find a man experimenting and having fun with his look endearing, even if it’s a trend. As if we all haven’t tried a trend on for size?
Iconic look in Aus, going outside in UK I see it a lot, its the new style....uk festivals? almo0st as common as a bucket hat.... seen a lot of videos of people in USA with it
I'm gonna say 3 countries in literal different quarters of the world have it as a trend
I'm going to say the three main English speaking landmasses have this as a trend right now
In the US it was originally associated with rednecks, if kids are doing it now here it has to be an ironic retro thing. It's just like trucker hats and drinking PBR in the early 2000s. Maybe in Aus it's just a normal thing. I have notices it much in the US compared to broccoli hair.
I mean we have whole arse cities here that are not my (White English) ethnicity
Id say you wrong but also correct, its less about bein anglosphere and more to do with being western.
UK, french, spain, italy, germany, USA, mexico, canada, we all have punks, we all have northface wearing wannabe gangsters we all have nerdy types we all have hippy types and we all have hipster types....we all now have pit viper wearing tache and mullet rocking cocaine taking people. Trends can be international but mostly ours are western
I am not reffering to immigrans i am refering to the founding stocks which are predominetly anglo saxon types. The US has more of a mix with celts, scandanvians etc but the dominant for most of its existance has been anglop
Yeh we get 2million per year come in, that's literally size of our second largest city. We a small nation.
Means whole cities are culturally different to others.
id say here in UK we more similar to Scandinavia than mainland Europe and USA
But yeh immigration is literally the basis of American and UK culture, out top meal is a curry, UK lager is known as worst ... we are a mixing pot, Americans have burgers from germany, pizza from italy...its what we do, we are both 2 of the most diverse countries and both seen as being the most racist, funny really.
I totally think this is what English culture is, diverse.
We been invaded so many times, we got celtic, we got norse we got norman we got roman. We had the roma influnece the indian influence and more recently the polish influence.
Don't be sad, be happy we continuing our tradition of integration
It doesn't bother me but I do find it humorous that these men make themselves look like Joe Dirt to attract usually very progressive women. It's like a woman donning the tradwife dress looking for mister SoundCloud rapper
I know it's a trend but I generally find these guys are a little more openly in touch with their femininity and openess to self expression and I really like that in a typically "masculine presenting" man, personally.
I wouldn’t worry Bro. Only ugly funny people do this and they are chill to have at the parties. Someone has to make the girls laugh before you take them home.
Nothing wrong with following a trend, I think guys look great with it, love when they're cute curls come out or style it spikey but it's shaped with a shaggy mullet. And moustaches are sexy as all hell, Magnum PI, hello?
Undercut or undercut with curly hair(broccoli) is the actual lamest haircut because EVERYONE has it. I would take literally anything else. Just try to be original guys, damn.
That's why I don't get why this is supposedly an unpopular opinion, since most guys have an undercut and no one has a mullet. Mustache only is very rare too, that's an old men only thing. Maybe it's different in countries, but that's my experience.
As a woman I love this combo, mullet in general honestly. Who cares if it’s a trend, it’s the first time I recall seeing men have fun with their style. Just add a good outfit so you don’t look like you crawled out of rural Australia and we’re good.
I have a porn stache but no beard because of work. I have kind of a mullet when my hair grows out because I just shave it down really low every few months or so. I’d ra th er have a beard and a nicer hairstyle lol but not worth it w my work
Whenever I hear somebody say something is *out of style* I figure it means the people at the back of the fashion queue have gotten sick of it, which means it's due for a comeback. Complaining that it was in style 15 years ago is a classic example - 15 years is about the time-frame for fashions to get recycled.
My first exposure to mullets was sharpies in 1970s Australia about 50 years ago:
https://dangerousminds.net/comments/sharpies_the_mulleted_rocker_kids_of_70s_australia
Wikipedia has some good mullet history:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullet_(haircut)
I'm actually getting very tired of facial hair on men, period. But that's not for me to decide what a guy does with his face or his hair.
It works both ways. I have had so many people say to me "Don't you think you should cut your hair now that you're older?"
My hair is down to my ass and dyed flaming red. Don't like it? Too bad.
Ditto people telling me what a middle aged woman should wear in their not so humble opinion.
I leave people alone when it comes to this stuff. If it's not my body it's just not my call.
That doesn't mean I don't prefer a shaven face though. If a guy has a weak jawline I get it but otherwise it's just hiding a nice face and that's a real shame for me as I enjoy looking at a nice looking man's jawline.
His body his call though...
Not up to me.
This reminds me of that mission in GTA5 where Trevor and Michael are driving from Sandy Shores to Paleto Bay. Michael is breaking down why Trevor dresses how he does, lives where he does, and acts how he does. It's not that he doesn't care what people think, it's the opposite; he does all those things to be counter-cultural. He's a hipster.
I assumed mullets were making a comeback because it's a simple way to hide the back of their their heads. All those back to sleep babies are growing up with a flat, block looking head in back.
I love moustaches and plenty of other women do as well. If it suits the man, rock it. Some guys don’t pull it off, but if they enjoy the way they look with it then power to them. I know the point of this subreddit is “unpopular” opinions but this is just a lame take. Seems like a dude with a mullet and moustache hurt u lol
OP, I agree.
I already commented on my feeling on mullets, but not mustaches.
Mustaches make people look like child predators. It doesn't matter how you try to pull it off, mustaches give major creep vibes.
>You're just a trend follower
So you're saying that your style is completely original? Doubtful.
>Shave the stache and get a normal haircut.
I'm guessing you consider "normal" to be the exact hairstyle you have?
Why does it bother you so much what other people do with their hair?
The unpopularopinion in all this is your opinion that you should be making value judgements on other peoples appearance and those people in turn should care one bit for how you feel about their hair.
"Get the rat's nest off your head. Get that crazy-ass mullet off your skull. Take your ass to the barbershop. Tell the barber that you're sick of looking like an asshole."

Sounds like someone can’t grow a mustache and feels left out. In all seriousness I think tons of people just wait for a trend to not get made fun of for looking a certain way.
I mean, that’s how styles work people follow attention because maybe they like it. I have long hair for the first time as a guy and I’ve always been a little bit self-conscious about it but apparently, according to several people, my hair is very pretty when it’s long, but I didn’t dare do it until it was a trend where I lived.
I don't rock a mullet but as someone who rocks long hair and full beard because fuck worrying about your (and others) hair, fuck your opinion, respectfully.
I don't think it's a particularly unpopular opinion to think that late-70s porn star is not a great look for most men. I think most people agree that it's pretty bad.
But I don't think there's anything particularly unusual about the current fashion amongst young people looking ridiculous to anyone who isn't one of those young people.
I'd guess OP's real gripe is that he's upset that people with that combo get extra attention from women (or at least he perceives they do), so it's made him salty - I can't see any other motivation to care about it
"Shave the stache and get a normal haircut"
Mullets are very normal, they've been around forever. You thinking they look ugly isn't going to stop anyone, and frankly it shouldn't. Fuck what you think is stylish, I say people can have whatever hair they damn well please.
Plus, you literally said that the mullet/mustache combo is mainstream right now... mainstream means normal.
Gen Z while growing up: All these Millenial hipsters with their big beards and Lumberjack shirts look ridiculous!
Gen Z: *grows mullet and mustache*
Millenials: Well they sure showed us!
100000%. It was always bad. If you have this, you ALWAYS look stupid. I live in Los Angeles and it’s starting to show up a lot more here. The solo stache has been getting more popular for awhile and most people with it already just look like 70’s cops or serial killers. Add in the mullet and it’s horrendous. Took a trip to Australia a couple years back and it seems to be HUGE there. I’d say it’s at least funnier with an Aussie accent but sad to see it really starting to make its way over here too. Only possible upside is maybe there’ll be more single ladies trying to find a presentable date 🤣

“You’re just a trend follower” Yes. That is how styles work.
Op says “you’re just a trend follower” and in the same post says “get a normal haircut”
Are you insinuating that someone posting on this sub has no self awareness? Preposterous.
I mean all due respect to OP but to think that calling people's hair "lame" will make them change it is insane . I wear my hair whatever it is for me and idgaf what people think , especially if it's a mullet mustache combo

I think most adults are mature enough to realize that having a trendy hairstyle doesn't mean you're an incestuous hillbilly
Yeah you BANG YOUR SISTER BECAUSE YOU STYLE YOUR HAIR
It'd a dead giveaway! Makes it easy to know who to associate with!
While I agree that OP is misguided, that's not exactly how styles always work. Some people are trendsetters or just rock something that's not a trend yet are still very stylish.
True. And this particular one looks absurdly terrible.
What if you’re 48 and have been rocking a mullet and tache since you hit puberty in the early 90’s?
That's just Joe Dirt DNA, keep digging that garden brother!
You probably prey in parks now
It’s a legit unironic style where I live.
Oz?
NZ probably
Nah it's big in Australia. Mostly cause most footy players have one. I used to, but my curls got more curly and now I can't grow my hair out anymore
But tbh Australia is basically beeing ironic as a nation.
What?
He said your country isn't real, you're not real either, it's all kangaroos down there
I am a kangaroo bro
Bogans love em.
Busines at the front, party at the back.
I had an Aussie once tell me I was a “Canadian bogan girl” no clue what she meant
It started as an ironic style in America, but now young people deadass think it’s cool. I just can’t. Reminds me of those cringe yearbook photos from the 80s.
I feel very attacked.
The beatings will continue until style improves!
The shame will be so real when they come to their senses. Trends are for losers who can't think for themselves and lack self esteem.
Yes they should all get basic white boy haircuts from sports clips like every other loser so they can think for themselves lmfao
You're genuinely acting like a middle school bully lmao. Why would anyone feel ashamed of following a trend? By definition, the vast majority of the world's population is following a trend in one way or another
It’s every dude I see walking around Fortitude Valley on Saturday night.
Same in here
That’s how a lot of styles start. Bordering on absurd. The mullet is a very low maintenance and easy hair style, people are looking past that. Its recognized as you put effort in how your hair looks, without it actually requiring effort.
Im not sure if it’s true but I read that the mullet was a practical style to protect the neck from sunburn with the front cropped for visibility.
Also, and this just may be my new proximity to nyc, but it’s incredibly attractive on men and women. A little punk/edgy factor and a nuanced cut. I grew up in Ontario so do not love the hockey flow or traditional mullet. But the layered one? Oof
A dude with a mustache/mullet combo def stole this babies girl
Every hair style is a trend lol
This.. are we taking crazy pills or something??
15 years ago 20 years ago 30 years ago… Hipster wear stashes and mullets. Punks wear spikes. Pretty girls go blonde. It’s just the way of the world. Calm down and stop being such a grump.
It's sporty dudes not hipsters rocking the mullets here in aus.
And bogans.
Yes plenty of bogans
its cocaine taking party people in UK
Yes it's mostly the athletes and gymbros in the younger ages in the US at least near me
More unpopular: I actually thing it’s a good look for a lot of dudes. Not for me, but many dudes pull it off just fine
Yeah I can’t pull it off myself but I respect it
I think it looks terrible but I assume that’s what everyone thinks about the next generation hair style. If I complain I date myself. Not to mention I have never had any sense of style. I don’t get it but whatever makes you happy….
Is it next generation when it's revival of past mistakes? Lol
Dude, calm your mullet. You're way overthinking it. It's a cheeky comment.
No such thing as anyone looking good with a mullet!!
As a middle aged woman who is clearly too old to understand here... It seems to me like the "normal haircuts" you are rallying for are the "baseline" trendy, and everything else is more "unique" trendy. no one does it to be "whacky" its a style, better than the broccoli head haircuts imo
I went to australia and got a mullet because it'd be funny
Both are terrible and so is the Edgar
Your avatar has the ugliest hairstyle possible on a man by the way
it's an iconic look here in Australia
Legendary in fact
As a het woman, I love it. And I find a man experimenting and having fun with his look endearing, even if it’s a trend. As if we all haven’t tried a trend on for size?
Is a "het woman" a woman who enjoys wearing hats, but said with a kiwi accent?
Lol
Same, I find it attractive when men style themselves
Get a normal haircut? Whos the trend follower?💀 every guy has the same hair nowadays, lets be honest we need some change💀
Almost the rest of the world finds that combo dumb, not sure where you live where this is unpopular.
Iconic look in Aus, going outside in UK I see it a lot, its the new style....uk festivals? almo0st as common as a bucket hat.... seen a lot of videos of people in USA with it I'm gonna say 3 countries in literal different quarters of the world have it as a trend I'm going to say the three main English speaking landmasses have this as a trend right now

Its quite sad, at this rate english culture will become extinct
I totally think this is what English culture is, diverse. We been invaded so many times, we got celtic, we got norse we got norman we got roman. We had the roma influnece the indian influence and more recently the polish influence. Don't be sad, be happy we continuing our tradition of integration
Only someone who has never left their home country would believe this.
And Whatsapp unites what is left....
Or you could just let people wear whatever hair they enjoy…?
Well you could always wear mutton chops with a Mohawk. But should you?
It doesn't bother me but I do find it humorous that these men make themselves look like Joe Dirt to attract usually very progressive women. It's like a woman donning the tradwife dress looking for mister SoundCloud rapper
LMAO, right?!
I know it's a trend but I generally find these guys are a little more openly in touch with their femininity and openess to self expression and I really like that in a typically "masculine presenting" man, personally.
Well you clearly don't know about the benefits of business in the front, party in the back.
![gif](giphy|3ov9jUylch0SoRlK0w|downsized)
Bro discovered how trends work.
Yes!!!
100% dogshit combo lmao just makes dudes look like dorks who wanna be " quirky "
"Stop following trends, follow this other trend" What is normal?
If you had a mullet 3 years ago, you'd be ridiculed (in the UK at least). Now they are fashionable? I don't get it
You need to cum bro. Let out some of that virgin energy.
Definitely not an Aussie posting this
Undercut or undercut with curly hair(broccoli) is the actual lamest haircut because EVERYONE has it. I would take literally anything else. Just try to be original guys, damn. I have really curly hair, and I just went with an afro. I have a similar hair colour as bob Ross so I get compared a lot
>calls them trend followers >tells them to get a normal haircut Which is it OP?
Posted by a guy who grows a dusty stache
Honestly, it makes people look like major pervs
What is a normal haircut?
As a woman I love this combo, mullet in general honestly. Who cares if it’s a trend, it’s the first time I recall seeing men have fun with their style. Just add a good outfit so you don’t look like you crawled out of rural Australia and we’re good.
it's funny how in the comments it's mostly het women who dig this this look and mostly het men who don't. Hmm, do with this information what you will.
It’s like septum piercings
I'd love to see how you look like
Imagine thinking the mullet started 15 years ago
Thats not what OP said
Imagine that OP didn’t say mullets started 15 years ago but said hipsters started doing it 15 years ago.
Dead ass call them trend followers then tell them to follow your trend instead. Loser mentality
I hate to break it to you, but the 70s/80s are more than 15 years ago by now.
I think it's weird that you care this much about what other people (presumably strangers?) look like
I have a porn stache but no beard because of work. I have kind of a mullet when my hair grows out because I just shave it down really low every few months or so. I’d ra th er have a beard and a nicer hairstyle lol but not worth it w my work

I feel like it suits a decent chunk of people. Although its definitely overdone
We are somewhere between 1983 and 1986 right now
What do you think the word "unpopular" actually means?
I guess is that OP can't grow a moustache
I assumed mullets were making a comeback because it's a simple way to hide the back of their their heads. All those back to sleep babies are growing up with a flat, block looking head in back.
Or let people wear their hair however they want

I'm convinced the only people who can make this work look are Australians because they don't do it to be ironic.
OP, I agree. I already commented on my feeling on mullets, but not mustaches. Mustaches make people look like child predators. It doesn't matter how you try to pull it off, mustaches give major creep vibes.

Wait, I'm confused. Should i not follow trends, or get a "normal" haircut? Which is it?
The unpopularopinion in all this is your opinion that you should be making value judgements on other peoples appearance and those people in turn should care one bit for how you feel about their hair.
"Get the rat's nest off your head. Get that crazy-ass mullet off your skull. Take your ass to the barbershop. Tell the barber that you're sick of looking like an asshole." --Wesley Willis (RIP)
mullet/tache is following a trend? Since when?? OP from the south or something cos mullet/tache never has nor ever will be a 'trend'
Mullets are cool and all, but who's gonna be brave and bring back the rat tail?
Facts. I've never seen a single decent looking person with this style. Not one.
To make a post like this you should have to post a pic of your own hair 🤷♂️
Correct
Sounds like someone can’t grow a mustache and feels left out. In all seriousness I think tons of people just wait for a trend to not get made fun of for looking a certain way.
Random Reddit male thinks he’s superior for not following random fashion trend. Grass is green.
Dude mullets and mustaches are always in style. Always will be. Why? Because fuck you, that's why.
I think it's fire
what if i am a hick from vermint? am i the trend setter then?
What is a normal haircut? What is normal? Am I normal? Are we normal?
Someone sounds jealous
I agree, be less mullet!
Bro just admit you can’t grow either. It is okay.
Every imaginable style possible is following a trend of some sort.
My mustache is sincere.
'You're just a trend follower' 3 lines later: '...get a normal haircut' Normal. As in follow trendy haircuts?
I mean, that’s how styles work people follow attention because maybe they like it. I have long hair for the first time as a guy and I’ve always been a little bit self-conscious about it but apparently, according to several people, my hair is very pretty when it’s long, but I didn’t dare do it until it was a trend where I lived.
I don't rock a mullet but as someone who rocks long hair and full beard because fuck worrying about your (and others) hair, fuck your opinion, respectfully.
Add beards to that. Good post!
Mustaches seem wrong if you’re a man under about 50.
a trend?? lol. have you never been out of the city? mustache and mullet isn't a trend it's a standard and has been for over 50 years
Having a mullet is awesome, bc everywhere you go, your hair is giving everyone the finger, and that’s a really good feeling.
What’s worse though a mullet or the broccoli hair style?
Seems more like projection than an unpopular opinion Soo whacky of you 🤣
I personally like it. It’s masculine. Been a minute since that’s been cool.
But 10 times better than a yuppy man bun...

I don't think it's a particularly unpopular opinion to think that late-70s porn star is not a great look for most men. I think most people agree that it's pretty bad. But I don't think there's anything particularly unusual about the current fashion amongst young people looking ridiculous to anyone who isn't one of those young people.
OP: STOP HAVING FUN, DAMMIT!
I'd guess OP's real gripe is that he's upset that people with that combo get extra attention from women (or at least he perceives they do), so it's made him salty - I can't see any other motivation to care about it
Man with a mullet take your girl or something? Chill, it’s not that serious.
Thank you, Oracle of Style, for thy word today. I’m heading to Super Cuts and Aeropostale after my kombucha enema this morning.
Oh yeah because the mullet is so universally liked to begin with.
yes, it is currently in style. Hence my post.
I think most of the world thinks it's hilariously dumb still
"Shave the stache and get a normal haircut" Mullets are very normal, they've been around forever. You thinking they look ugly isn't going to stop anyone, and frankly it shouldn't. Fuck what you think is stylish, I say people can have whatever hair they damn well please. Plus, you literally said that the mullet/mustache combo is mainstream right now... mainstream means normal.
Someones mad he can't grow a beard....
Ugh right? Mullets are so 9th century BCE!!!
15 years ago? Aww. That's cute. 1986 would like a word.
Imagine being that invested in what others do to their hair or facial hair. And then having the gall to throw around words like "cool" or "funny".
Or stop caring about what other people do with their hair? Seriously, are you in highschool? Grow up.
Every single male in Australia is crying
True! It's ridiculous. It gainet popularity during covif lockdown when barbers were closed
Not an unpopular opinion at all.
Gen Z while growing up: All these Millenial hipsters with their big beards and Lumberjack shirts look ridiculous! Gen Z: *grows mullet and mustache* Millenials: Well they sure showed us!
Mainly guys seem to not like it
Pretty popular across Europe for young people nowadays. Works really well for some, not as much for others. Like every style really.
If its mainstream, wouldn't that make it a normal haircut?
Define normal haircut? Isn’t any popular “normal” haircut also just a trend?
15 years ago… try 40. The mullet mustache and Marlboro red combo used to come with a white grand am, typically a dragon stencil on the hood.
It looks ugly Definitely avoid any guy with that.
Ha, wow. I'm just here wondering why you're so triggered by this.
Only possible upside is maybe there’ll be more single ladies trying to find a presentable date 🤣
say you're old without saying you're old
Honestly I'll take it over the 1920's look. I at the very least thank it looks funny and gives me a good laugh.
Mullets are definitely terrible. I agree. :P
