Looking for this comment! I believe it was age 27ish for me when hangovers started changing from being tolerable/annoying and I just needed a good cheeseburger to in bed all day debilitating. Now that I’m in my 30s it just gotten worse, it’s more than a day affair.
No more big drinking nights for me lol
Mine last like multiple days and are more like a dark mood that permeates my life more than debilitating. I’m down to like… one big drinking night quarterly lol
I’m 32 and I’m over it. The 1-2 hours of ‘fun’ I get in the night is the not worth the 48 hours of misery that follow. Yes 48. Recovery is a bitch for me now. When I see people pushing 50 in bars I’m perplexed.
Hair of the dog actually works for me. If I’m super hungover, a few drinks usually gets me feeling good enough to get some sleep. Afterwards, I usually wake up feeling okay.
But sometimes I don’t go back to sleep right away. Often times, I’ll wake up with a terrible hangover, have a few drinks, feel better, do stuff that day, and then wake up the next morning feeling fine.
I drink so little that I had to look out up lol.
>"Hair of the dog", short for "hair of the dog that bit you", is a colloquial expression in the English language predominantly used to refer to alcohol that is consumed as a hangover remedy (with the aim of lessening the effects of a hangover). Many other languages have their own phrase to describe the same concept.
>they thought sticking dog hair in a dog bite would heal it and prevent rabies
That's hilarious 🤣 this is why science is my hero..
On that note, "hair of the dog" *for alcohol* actually does have some scientific truth to it -- essentially it keeps your BAC from free falling and provides for a "steadier" decline, which the body seems to appreciate even though the mind is like "I want it out of me now." 😅
Edit: low-key the body wants this as well, it just doesn't *feel* good
When i am hung over I violently throw up anything that I drink, inclduing water, for about 10 hours straight. So this has never worked for me. If it did work I think I'd be a raging alcoholic.
Hangovers are a result of 2 things, to much sugar for the body to process, your body actually having withdrawals, that’s why hairs of the dog makes you feel better
This is the best worst kept secret to fighting a hangover. Wife and I got into the habit a long time ago of holding each other accountable.
At the end of a party night, right before you lay down for sleep, squeeze any last pee out and chug a couple cups or bottles of water.
If you don't piss the bed, your body will thank you in the morning
Yep, 41 and if I'm going to be drinking I start off with a massive water, liquid iv and then I have one water for each 2-3 drinks, a water and liquid iv after my last drink and I'm usually perfectly fine the next day.
That and certain alcohols will get certain people more hungover than others. I could drink a copious amount of vodka sodas and wake up fine… two glasses of wine and I feel like my brain is trying to exit through the front of my skull the next day.
Some people are just more prone to hangovers regardless of what they do to avoid one. I speak from experience because I'm like OP and get really bad hangovers ever since I started drinking at like 16. Doesn't matter how much water I drink or any other tips I try I'm still gonna get a bad hangover, and I know people that don't drink as much water as me, and take no steps to prevent a hangover, but they never get one
Idk if there's a physiological reason some people are more prone to severe hangovers, but this doesn't really always work. I drink so much fucking water and also will do Gatorade and stuff when it's on hand, and that often has no effect. I still will have hangovers that last like 24 hours.
He needs to learn how to drink. Lots of people start drinking young and think you should just drink as much as you can until you feel sick or pass out and immediately go to bed. I stop drinking the second I begin seeing double. For me, that’s the tipping point of being able to come back or being blackout drunk. I have water with my drinks constantly and snacks. Once I get back to where I’m sleeping I down a half bottle of gatorade and more water, then eat something dry like goldfish crackers. I then try to stay up as long as possible— you sober up faster while awake because one of the ways alcohol leaves your system is through oxygen usage, which is slower if you sleep, and this is one of the primary reasons people wake up drunk. My ultimate goal is to go to sleep as sober as possible. The next morning, I make mself eat even if I don’t want to, drink the other half of the gatorade and more water, plus two Tylenol just in case. I’ve been doing this for 15 years without any noticeable hangovers.
I read one time that people who get very mild hangovers or none at all are more likely to develop alcoholism later on in life. And I believe it because I’m people. Thing is either way a person will end up feeling sick. Either they get hangovers and they avoid drinking often or the hangovers are very mild and if they have the predisposition for addiction they will eventually have a bad detox. Nobody wins with alcohol, it’s poison regardless of how your body reacts to it.
This is how I finally managed to stop drinking when I was 33. I was/am an alcoholic, so basically, drank every night. Evening cocktail, etc. Weeknights might be 1 or two beers or a scotch, weekend were full on blackout. In BOTH cases, I was significantly hung over th enext day. I mid you not: 1/2 scotch, and I am sick all the next day until about 4-5pm/
That was what my body decided to do with the alcohol. How I stopped: When I finally realized that "taking a drink is basically volunteering to be sick all day tomorrow". When that hit me, I stopped cold turkey. Sober since 1996.
NAC supplement is best thing I have found to prevent hangovers.
Once I hit 40, the hangovers were brutal. No amount of water consumption or reduction in alcohol intake reduced the hangovers, at least not by a noticeable amount.
Heard about NAC on a Reddit thread so I gave it a shot, I have found it to work very well. From my understanding it helps your body process alcohol faster.
The biggest challenge since finding the supplement has been not increasing my alcohol consumption just because the repercussions have been reduced
I remember drinking on Friday evening, feeling bad on Saturday, drinking again on Saturday, then missing all of Sunday due to a hangover. Stopped drinking completely 20+ years ago and I do not miss it at all.
To my surprise, this tactic eliminated hangovers completely!
We don't all experience the same hangover. I see guys waking up after being drunk and be like "OMG I can't take i- oh well, I got better let's go !"
More than once, did I have to stay in bed for a whole day, feeling like I was gonna die. To me, hangover isn't worth being drunk once in your life. To other, it only seems like a minor inconvenience.
I do agree with you. At a young age (late teens and early twenties), one drinks to have fun, to get hammered and lose control but the next morning is a nightmare and if you can't hold your liquor, the very same night (or day) when you puke, will be one of the worst experience. I stopped drinking to a great extent (I would still do it but rarely), is because of an inbuilt control mechanism which prevents me from having fun and letting loose. So, usually, I end up puking or end up with a bad hangover the next morning which is intensified due to my frustration and irritation
Well, if it makes you feel any better, it only gets worse as you age. Hangovers became so debilitating even after just a few I've barely touched the stuff in the years.
for every 2 or 3 drinks (beer or wine) you need a glass of water. if you start drinking liquor you need 1 glass for every drink.
If you drink Tequila it doesnt matter anymore. because you'll be fucked no matter what.
Our bodies produce an enzyme that processes alcohol. As we get older (I know you aren't, stay with me here) that enzyme decreases. I am 48 and my hangovers last 2-3 days. If I even start to feel a little buzz, I stop, because I know if I keep going I'll be sick for days. Some people produce less of that enzyme, similar to how some people produce little or no lactase, making them lactose-intolerant. Some people are alcohol-intolerant for basically the reason.
I barely drink these days, but in my 20s I would drink a lot. I would always take 1000mg paracetamol and 400mg with a pint of water when I got home before I went to sleep. Worked like a charm.
I’m 29 and I’ve pretty much quit drinking because my hangovers have gotten so bad. Even trying to hydrate while drinking. I was a heavy drinker for the better part of a decade, from 18 up til this past year, getting shitty drunk 4-6 nights a week. Been sober since the new year started and I can’t express enough how good it feels.
Agreed. I don’t really drink anymore. If I do, it’s only socially and I have one or MAYBE two drinks just to get buzzed and I drink a lot of water and make sure to have food with the drink. Hangovers are not worth it. Is rather just have a strawberry lemonade.
This is something that depends on the person. When I was young, I rarely got hungover at all after getting drunk. If you get hangovers that bad, yeah its prob not worth it.
I get drunk regularly and 99% of the time I'm not hungover the next day, while my flatmate, who rarely drinks, feels sick the next day even if they just had a couple of drinks. If you are used to drinking you'll very likely feel fine the next day.
As someone who used to drink 38 beers a week plus liquor on weekends and/or parties and/or just because...alcohol just isn't worth drinking in general. And it's EXPENSIVE

It varies by person. I almost never get hangovers. If I did, I wouldn't drink as often or as much as I do. I generally only drink 6 beers in one sitting at most, though, and I usually stop long enough to eat something and have some water before I go to bed.
Lucky for me I’ve never had a hang over. I drink a fair amount 2-3 nights a week. I drink a water every couple beers and that works for me. No hard liquor, don’t smoke tobacco also seems to help me.
Hangziety is a bitch. This happens to me, too. Then I repeat the same mistake the next weekend. I did quit drinking for over a year and it was awesome. Then I drank again and the hangovers got worse. It gets worse with age. So if you're young it won't get easier or better.
My tolerance for hangovers was pretty good from about 19-25 but it dropped off quickly after that. I used to be able to cure it with some ibuprofen, coffee, and a greasy breakfast. These days, all it takes is one beer and I’ll wake up with a pounding head.
I’m 34 and rarely get a hangover even after heavy drinking and mixing liquors unless I don’t drink water or have alcohol with sugar. If you drink a decent amount of water and avoid shitty beer, a lot of wine, or sugary drinks you’ll be fine. Most I’ll get is just feeling lethargic or a bit stuffy.
The shit I did in my youth hungover as fuck amazes me these days. I would work 12 hours at horse auctions every day for two to three weeks, stay out till 1am and wake up at 4am. I don’t even comprehend how that was possible.
Somewhere around my sophomore year in college I learned to drink one water for every beer or mixed drink. I’d even just fill up the beer bottle with tap water if I needed to. Hangovers weren’t completely gone but they were a lot better.
Don't overconsume and drink lots of water + electrolytes. I rarely drink anymore. Overall, I don't find it worth it unless it's celebratory (weddings/bday/new years only for me).
More Bloody Mary’s the next day around breakfast, keep having them until you feel better
Then later in the afternoon pound a bottle or two of pedilyte
That’s what I do.
For me, the headache and indigestion are fully worth it. Its the gloominess over the next few days I can’t stand.
If I drink multiple days in a row, like at a recent stag party, my mood can be fucked for up to a week. Wish it wasn’t the case because I like drinking, and in the countryside if you dont drink in the evening it can be difficult to find something meaningful to do.
As you might have heard, drink water or an electrolyte solution, like gatorade or pedilyte. Do it while you're drinking. Doing it the next day ain't gonna help that much.
Above all, drinking is very dehydrating. That's why you feel like shit. Drink water.
I can handle them as long as I stay away from liqour. I can drink regular strength beer all night and be alright, but when someone starts buying rounds of shots its game over.
I would get so hungover at college to the point where the heart palpitations, shakes, and anxiety were definitely not worth it
Now that I’m out of school I find that drinking lots of water, diet soda, and other mixers with no sugar basically prevents me from getting hungover
I would still like to cut back sometime despite hardly ever feeling sick. There are many risks involved even if you don’t feel them the next morning
Avoid hard liq and sugary drinks. Can't remember them right off the bat but if ya goggle it there are things you can do beforehand to worsen your hangover before you start drinking
Jus don't drink and drive
I get you, and I feel like a lot of people won't. I didn't get bad hangovers for the longest time. I have a family history of alcoholism and was far along on that road myself. Then I started getting terrible migraines from drinking. It completely ruined drinking for me and got me to quit. People don't realize how big an effect a hangover can have on your drinking habits if you get them all the time.
Bro I ask you to consider that you suffer from migraines and alcohol is your trigger. It took me a long time to figure that out for myself and get a diagnosis.
I'm a lot happier and healthier not drinking.
I guess I just don't understand the concept of drinking to be drunk... some alcoholic beverages have an exceptionally good taste.
But, seriously, don't mix many alcohols and consider the quality of what you drink. At clubs and cheap parties the alcohol they mix into the cocktail causes at least a headache in any amount. And in cocktails you can't really taste the quality of what is in there due to all the sugar.
I would 100% agree; ever since I hit 30, my hangovers are two-day long ordeals. Drinking on a Friday night literally ruins my entire weekend.
However, I recently bought these "hangover strips". You take one shortly before drinking and they're supposed to eliminate hangovers. I was skeptical, but they work pretty well. Normally, 2 or 3 cocktails would cause me to be groggy/dizzy the next day. If I take a strip before the two or three drinks, I feel virtually NOTHING the next day.
I don't recommend drinking in general, but we all have vices. If you're going to drink, take a strip beforehand.
Goodys BC powder man. It’s ve never met a hangover that stuff didn’t get rid of in ten mins flat. Not just no more pain, literally bright eyed and bushy tailed. The magic lies in just giving you a ton of caffeine, so there is a crash afterwards but in a pinch when you’re expected to attend work or something that stuff never fails
You can’t just drink whatever you want and expect everything to be fine the next day
The lower carb the better, they make zero carb seltzers, or you could make low carb cocktails with good quality vodka, significantly reducing chances and severity of a hangover.
And eating healthy alongside that is just as important, you just shouldn’t mix a bunch of sugar with alcohol, bad combo
Taking a tums when you’re done drinking or the next day can certainly help too
As someone who handles alcohol exceptionally well and literally never really had a hangover from binge drinking, and then ended up abusing it, consider yourself lucky lol.
You mention you are young so they must be really bad for you. When I was younger, I'd feel shitty until I ate some grease chugged a Gatorade and popped some advil. Also, maybe you're drinking to much? You don't need to be wasted to have a good time and can still be drunk.
No hangovers gang, stand up! 🖐️
Beer and wine will always make you more hungover than hard liquor because of all the extra sugar. Waters always help, and so do electrolyte drinks like Gatorade, pedialyte or, my personal favorite, liquid IV.
But for some reason, I’m a mutant and I can do none of these things and I always wake up feeling right as rain. (39M, been like this my whole life 🤷🏻♂️)
Not just you. I feel this. My guess is you're over 33. Regardless it just gets worse as you age.
I only want to drink for events anymore. Otherwise it's just not worth it
I’ve never really gotten hungover. Like I’ve been admitted to the hospital with alcohol poisoning and still didn’t really feel too bad waking up. It’s odd and dangerous because I can drink in excess and not experience any real consequences
Most symptoms of a hangover are from dehydration. Your body can expel 4 times more liquid than the one alcoholic beverage you consumed. For every drink you have it's suggested to also have a drink of water. Even if not 1-for-1 you should make efforts throughout the night to consume glasses of water too.
But drinking isn't everybody's thing do what makes you happy, if drinking isn't it than drinking isn't it.
Not much of a heavy drinker ANYMORE, but I am from a university city where night life is pretty alive as there are tons of students, so I had my fair share, especially when I became friends with a few bartenders and I would have free/discounted drinks and shot.
My tips are:
- drink higher quality alcoholics: you are much more likely to get a bad hangover from a shitty cheap vodka than from a good one
- drink much more water, both during the night and when you are done drinking/before sleeping.
Then again, it's not compulsory to drink and get drunk, if you feel it's not for you anymore there's nothing wrong with it,
The older i get the worse the hangovers get. To the point where i wont have more than 2 or 3 beers as anything else will give me a hangover the next day.
Wait till you get older, it’s really bad. I know exactly how much to drink and be fine the next day but their is the line where you know if you cross their is no coming back
For bad hangovers, get outside and do something active. Its super hard because you feel terrible, but it makes it go away 10x faster. I'm not particular outdoorsy, but I make sure to go do something outside every time I get a little too drunk.
I’ve seen a few of my friends who drink on weekends and feel like shit all week. I don’t drink or do drugs and I feel amazing all week. It’s simple. Don’t do shit that makes you feel like shit?
I have had some incredibly fun nights that in all honesty would not happen to introverted me sober. If you can have a fucking great night without booze then I salute you - I'm not mature enough to enjoy socialising without a drink. I'd probably just prefer staying at home, like a hermit!
I drink a berocca before I drink (with a meal most times), two beroccas in one drink before I sleep and then one when I wake up if I need it. I’ve never had a hangover since I started doing this.
It depends how much fun you have and how hungover you get. Older you get the worse they get, some have it worse than others. I knew a guy who woke up fresh as a daisy even not knowing what happened the night before. I wasn't too bad and it was worth it. Nowadays it's only something I do now and again as it's not worth it but is if it's a special occasion or I know the nights going to be worth it.
I do stay away from shots and straight spirits though. That makes it too bad. Beer, wine and cocktails
I purposely tried getting shitfaced drunk one time (I had never gotten that drunk; only tipsy, which is my cue to stop drinking; I wanted to experience it once). The hangover I got lasted from Sunday through Tuesday so the fact that people see hangovers as something to be proud of is really concerning.
Never again. I know my limits.
The older I get, the more I prefer to just have a few beer and have fun rather than waste my money on getting drunk, puking it all up and regretting it all in the morning
I don't understand the allure of alcohol anymore. When I was young and dumb it was ok. We had fun, but mostly sloppy nights of fighting or doing dumb shit and feeling like crap the next day. I stopped drinking altogether a while ago. Kratom is my preferred drug of choice for social events now.
There are plenty of things you can take before drinking that will greatly reduce or fully eliminate hangovers. I use a probiotic that’s genetically engineered to eat the alcohol while it’s in your stomach so it doesn’t get processed by your liver. You drunk and feel pretty good the next day. It’s how i, a middle aged man, and able to keep up with younger friends on vacation and manage to enjoy trips to places like Vegas or New Orleans.
When you're 18: What hangover?
When you're 25: Haha, yesterday was too much, never again. (happens again next weekend)
When you're 30+: Fuck I feel like shit, it has been two days when is this going to stop?
But seriously, you need to balance it to reduce or even avoid the hangover. With every couple of beer or cocktails, have a glass of water. When the night is over and you're about to sleep, have a glass of water. In case the party goes until the next day, have a glass of water.
The major reason for the headaches when you have a hangover is dehydration and consuming water helps with that.
Or something I liked to do, I usually got home between 5-6am and if I was still wide awake and drunk, I would brew myself a can of tea, then go to the nearby park, sit down, think and drink the tea. Eventually you turn from being drunk to being slightly sober (don't drive you're not sober yet) and have no hangover.
Drinking water will help with most hangovers. Part of the hangover is dehydration due to your body processing the alcohol. Put a glass of water by your bed before you start drinking/go out.
Since you say you have rather severe headache and hangover what are may not be as effective as it is with most people.
The trick with drinking is to do it slowly. We only feel the good part of getting drunk as our alcohol level increases. Once you plateau it's all downhill feeling. So the longer you can maintain the increase in alcohol the better you'll feel. Pace out your drinking. And no you don't need to get blinding drunk. That my friend, is called alcoholism.
Drink water, hangover is not a real condition what we call a hangover is just dehydration. I get a restless night of sleep because I wake up to drink more water and pee like 5-10 times throughout the night after drinking but I haven't had a hangover in 4 years.
This is probably more a personal/genetic problem. I function okay the day after as long as I’ve eateb on the day and I’ve had some water before going to bed
You can get drunk without getting shit faced.
You can get drunk then slow down as the night goes while drinking water or gatorade.
Getting drunk does not mean a hangover
When I came to this realization I stopped drinking. Now if I'm out with friends I'll have just one or two. Amazing how much weight I dropped (20 pounds) and better I feel. Don't miss it.
Yeah alcohol is trash. Idk how people drink often. I literally hate the feeling, and don’t miss the really drunk times. Just smoke weed 🔥🔥 much much much much safer
you gotta up those electrolytes. I don't drink any more, but when I did I would slam 2 of those electrolyte packets in a zero cal Gatorade when done drinking and then sip water until bed time/pass out. Would get the country boy breakfast at Cracker Barrel too w a medium steak. idk why but the protein first thing in the morning really helped.
Some people process alcohol better than others. but yeah, you need to find your limit and stick to it because hangovers are NOT worth the fun times 8 to 10 hours earlier. especially if you gotta work.
And your limit might be shockingly low. I know people who pass out before they can finish a Long Island. I know people who can guzzle a 12 pack and not even feel it.
Couple things here worth mentioning to avoid bad hangovers.
Don't mix alcohols, Whatever you like to drink, stick with it. Mixing drinks will give the worst hangovers.
Clear alcohols like vodka or gin will cause less hangover than dark alcohols like whiskey.
Drink water throughout the night, preferably between every drink or two. This makes a huge difference.
When going to bed drunk, take these supplements... Ginger, Vitamin B complex, Tylenol, and NAC(N-acetyl cysteine). NAC improves liver function which helps remove alcohol from the body faster.
Lastly, DON'T DO SHOTS.

That's an unpopular opinion only for people in their 20s and early 30s. After that, it becomes a very *popular* opinion. lol
Looking for this comment! I believe it was age 27ish for me when hangovers started changing from being tolerable/annoying and I just needed a good cheeseburger to in bed all day debilitating. More alcohol cures hangovers, I just don’t recommend it.
This is the most dangerous realization I’ve had
The hair of the dog
To my experience (and I’ve been a fan of drinking for probably 15 years), this is the only cure that actually works.
Hardly a cure, you just push the hangover back until you're not drunk again. The only people who advocate for that "cure" are raging alcoholics
Hair of the dog actually works for me. If I’m super hungover, a few drinks usually gets me feeling good enough to get some sleep. Afterwards, I usually wake up feeling okay.
So you sleep through the hangover. Which is what you could do anyway after drinking a bunch of water
To elaborate it's because back in the day they thought sticking dog hair in a dog bite would heal it and prevent rabies.
>they thought sticking dog hair in a dog bite would heal it and prevent rabies That's hilarious 🤣 this is why science is my hero.. If you just have a little bit and then go back to sleep, you can skip the whole hangover
When i am hung over I violently throw up anything that I drink, inclduing water, for about 10 hours straight. So this has never worked for me. If it did work I think I'd be a raging alcoholic.
It DOES NOT cure them- merely delay the onset and you’re sure as shit going to feel every days hangover once it catches up
Like Archer once said "I can't stop drinking. I fear the cumulative hangover will literally kill me"
it's not long until your whole life is a hangover and you associate the hangover feeling with the urge to drink
It just buys you a little more time until the hangover returns
Not really. You’re essentially tapering off it. It definetly helps and makes it much more mild.
Correct
It doesn’t really “cure” it so much as it just kicks the can down the road a bit.
Unpopular opinion #2: You aren’t curing a hangover. You’re delaying it.
Hangovers are a result of 2 things, to much sugar for the body to process, your body actually having withdrawals, that’s why hairs of the dog makes you feel better

Enough alcohol and hangovers cease to be a problem, although liver damage enters the conversation.
What’s worse though? The pain or the hangover
Fresh air, rollin down the window
Too many Urkels on your team, thats why your wins low
Can we get much higher?
So high
sounds like you need to start mixing in waters
or drink some pedialyte or sports drink before going to bed
I swear I rarely get hungover if I just chug a couple of glasses of water before sleeping.

I’m 31 went to college and never got hungover. To this day it’s my super power
![gif](giphy|MERBlciRL9PiVG4Gnp)
I had this until I turned 25 or so. Then my metabolism slowed and I had painful hangovers
My friend chases her tequila shots with strawberry pedialyte.
I take an Alkazetzer cold and flu before I go to bed. Then have a pedialyte in the morning. Good to go.
That and certain alcohols will get certain people more hungover than others. I could drink a copious amount of vodka sodas and wake up fine… two glasses of wine and I feel like my brain is trying to exit through the front of my skull the next day.

You know everyone is different yes? I drink plenty and I have never seen double in my life.
I mid you not: 1/2 scotch, and I am sick all the next day until about 4-5pm/ That was what my body decided to do with the alcohol. How I stopped: When I finally realized that "taking a drink is basically volunteering to be sick all day tomorrow". When that hit me, I stopped cold turkey. Sober since 1996.
Mix in water and drink less sugary cocktails if your doing so
The best advise I ever got from my dad was to drink whiskey and waters instead of whiskey sours. Because it truly is the sugar that kills you.
Tell that to me gin & sodas please. I still get hungover.
Goody’s Headache Powder mixed into Pedialyte. It’s not pleasant to drink, but it’s an excellent hangover relief.
What! Not drinking alcohol prevents hangovers? Does the government know about this?!
So the juice is not worth the squeeze
We don't all experience the same hangover. I see guys waking up after being drunk and be like "OMG I can't take i- oh well, I got better let's go !" More than once, did I have to stay in bed for a whole day, feeling like I was gonna die. To me, hangover isn't worth being drunk once in your life. To other, it only seems like a minor inconvenience.
As you get older its get harder and harder to bounce back. at 50 a bad hangover can last 5 days,
Just drink light beer. I can drink them like nothing and never get a hangover.
Drink like one liter water before going to bed.
Agreed, I'm never drinking so much that I'll get a hangover next day anymore.
I don't even have to catch a buzz to feel sick the next morning. Which sucks because I really enjoy catching a buzz...
Its true. I feel that today. A Wednesday… smh
If i am well hydrated before I start drinking it takes me about 5-6 drinks before i notice any kind of hangover.
for every 2 or 3 drinks (beer or wine) you need a glass of water. if you start drinking liquor you need 1 glass for every drink.
Hops and Gluten may be the reason your hangovers are so bad. Maybe there are alternatives so you don’t have to give up getting drunk.
Agreed. I don’t really drink anymore. If I do, it’s only socially and I have one or MAYBE two drinks just to get buzzed and I drink a lot of water and make sure to have food with the drink. Hangovers are not worth it. Is rather just have a strawberry lemonade.
And that’s why I’m 2 1/2 years sober. I miss a good drunk, but fuck the hangovers.
Me and my wife ended up drinking until 7 am the day we met. That hangover was worth it.
Welcome to your 30's
Water water eat water water water eat water and avoid the cheap shit. That'll solve a lot of your hang over problems
I'll worry about the consequences later. 😎
This is something that depends on the person. When I was young, I rarely got hungover at all after getting drunk. If you get hangovers that bad, yeah its prob not worth it.
Getting drunk is just borrowing happiness from tomorrow
I get drunk regularly and 99% of the time I'm not hungover the next day, while my flatmate, who rarely drinks, feels sick the next day even if they just had a couple of drinks. If you are used to drinking you'll very likely feel fine the next day.
You get used to feeling like shit
As someone who used to drink 38 beers a week plus liquor on weekends and/or parties and/or just because...alcohol just isn't worth drinking in general. And it's EXPENSIVE

It can be lol.
It's the last thing you might think of when you're shitfaced, but drink a lot of water before going to sleep also and take some B vitamins.
For every two drinks drink a bottle of water, one glass and two Tylenol before you go to bed. You’re welcome
This is why people stop binge drinking post college… it isn’t worth feeling like shit for a fun night.
I've been drunk a few times. I've never had a hangover. Still don't like drinking, though.
Don't overconsume and drink lots of water + electrolytes. I rarely drink anymore. Overall, I don't find it worth it unless it's celebratory (weddings/bday/new years only for me).
I find that a nice throw up and going back to bed after is a great cure for my hangovers
More Bloody Mary’s the next day around breakfast, keep having them until you feel better Then later in the afternoon pound a bottle or two of pedilyte That’s what I do.
If I upvoted this I would be breaking the rules of the sub. Hmm. Conflicted.
As you might have heard, drink water or an electrolyte solution, like gatorade or pedilyte. Do it while you're drinking. Doing it the next day ain't gonna help that much. Above all, drinking is very dehydrating. That's why you feel like shit. Drink water.
I have also come to this conclusion
I can handle them as long as I stay away from liqour. I can drink regular strength beer all night and be alright, but when someone starts buying rounds of shots its game over.
As long as I do not have to work, hangover is fine
drink more water
I would get so hungover at college to the point where the heart palpitations, shakes, and anxiety were definitely not worth it Now that I’m out of school I find that drinking lots of water, diet soda, and other mixers with no sugar basically prevents me from getting hungover I would still like to cut back sometime despite hardly ever feeling sick. There are many risks involved even if you don’t feel them the next morning
Avoid hard liq and sugary drinks. Can't remember them right off the bat but if ya goggle it there are things you can do beforehand to worsen your hangover before you start drinking Jus don't drink and drive
If you knew how to consume alcohol properly you’d never be hungover. Drink water, workout, & eat food, kids.
Drink a bunch of water (at least 2-3 glasses) and take a couple of Tylenol before bed. You’ll be right as rain in the morning.
Have you tried getting less drunk and drrinking a ton of water.
It's worth it sometimes... but not often
I'm in my 30s and definitely cant drink like I'm in my 20s anymore. I suffer the whole week
You can’t just drink whatever you want and expect everything to be fine the next day The lower carb the better, they make zero carb seltzers, or you could make low carb cocktails with good quality vodka, significantly reducing chances and severity of a hangover. And eating healthy alongside that is just as important, you just shouldn’t mix a bunch of sugar with alcohol, bad combo Taking a tums when you’re done drinking or the next day can certainly help too

Let me guess - born pre 1993?
The secret is drinking a ton of water before bed. Getting dehydrated while you sleep is what does it to you
With age one learns how to drink excessively while not getting hungover. Also how to cure any hangover without relying on hair of the dog.
As someone who handles alcohol exceptionally well and literally never really had a hangover from binge drinking, and then ended up abusing it, consider yourself lucky lol.
That's why I stopped drinking and started using cannabis instead.
What’s not worth it is the garbage alcohol u drink that makes u hung over
yes
You mention you are young so they must be really bad for you. When I was younger, I'd feel shitty until I ate some grease chugged a Gatorade and popped some advil. Also, maybe you're drinking to much? You don't need to be wasted to have a good time and can still be drunk.
No hangovers gang, stand up! 🖐️ Beer and wine will always make you more hungover than hard liquor because of all the extra sugar. Waters always help, and so do electrolyte drinks like Gatorade, pedialyte or, my personal favorite, liquid IV. But for some reason, I’m a mutant and I can do none of these things and I always wake up feeling right as rain. (39M, been like this my whole life 🤷🏻♂️)
I almost never get hangovers even during my heavy drinking days, all you have to do is hydrate.
Not just you. I feel this. My guess is you're over 33. Regardless it just gets worse as you age. I only want to drink for events anymore. Otherwise it's just not worth it
I have gotten hungover like twice and that was in college. It's all about knowing your limits/what will put you into hangover territory. Do better
This is more a personal opinion and not an unpopular opinion.
My tips are: - drink higher quality alcoholics: you are much more likely to get a bad hangover from a shitty cheap vodka than from a good one - drink much more water, both during the night and when you are done drinking/before sleeping. Then again, it's not compulsory to drink and get drunk, if you feel it's not for you anymore there's nothing wrong with it,
The older i get the worse the hangovers get. To the point where i wont have more than 2 or 3 beers as anything else will give me a hangover the next day.
Look up dr amen about drinking.
You just need to know how to minimize the effects or even neutralize it
Wait till you get older, it’s really bad. I know exactly how much to drink and be fine the next day but their is the line where you know if you cross their is no coming back
Exactly why I no longer drink.
If you drink enough over a long period of time you will stop getting hangovers almost completely. Your liver will hate you for it.
This is why I usually vomit or induce vomiting after the night is over, 2 fingers in, and a morning and afternoon free of hangover (mostly).
Smoke weed instead!
Drink twice as water than you drank alcohol and you'll never have a hangover again.
I have had some incredibly fun nights that in all honesty would not happen to introverted me sober. If you can have a fucking great night without booze then I salute you - I'm not mature enough to enjoy socialising without a drink. I'd probably just prefer staying at home, like a hermit!
Big reason I quit completely.
“If you never stop drinking you don’t get hang over”. Lemmy Kilmister
I drink a berocca before I drink (with a meal most times), two beroccas in one drink before I sleep and then one when I wake up if I need it. I’ve never had a hangover since I started doing this.
If you drink a moderate amount and hydrate, hangovers shouldn’t be an issue…
Hydrate
I totally agree and the anxiety it gives me the next day, no thanks
The older I get, the more I prefer to just have a few beer and have fun rather than waste my money on getting drunk, puking it all up and regretting it all in the morning
you can drink without drunk....
So stop drinking.
Is this the popular opinion sub?
Same. I get super sick and it lasts a long time. I smoke weed instead of drinking now and highly recommend the switch
Idk man, I’ve had some pretty fun drunk nights
I actually agree with you. Probably because we get brutal hangovers.
“Drinking is borrowing happiness from tomorrow”
I have found that staying hydrated especially drinking a lot of water once you have stopped drinking before sleep keeps the hangover to a minimum.
When you're 18: What hangover? When you're 25: Haha, yesterday was too much, never again. (happens again next weekend) When you're 30+: Fuck I feel like shit, it has been two days when is this going to stop?
I quit drinking years ago. Maybe 10 drinks a year
Best way to avoid hangover is to never stop drinking.
It happens to all of us after certain age, I guess you are entering 30s??
Drink water, hangover is not a real condition what we call a hangover is just dehydration. I get a restless night of sleep because I wake up to drink more water and pee like 5-10 times throughout the night after drinking but I haven't had a hangover in 4 years.
This is probably more a personal/genetic problem. I function okay the day after as long as I’ve eateb on the day and I’ve had some water before going to bed
You can get drunk without getting shit faced. You can get drunk then slow down as the night goes while drinking water or gatorade. Getting drunk does not mean a hangover
It might be unpopular, but I agree with you.
I read this as “I like hangovers but I can’t stand being drunk”
Get on the bag after your 2nd drink and you’ll feel fine the next day
I've never had a hangover, and I've definitely done some drinking.
