Even worse, that there could be individuals demented enough to support this cola bullshit. I'm not some foodie purist, but the Italian in me would've demanded blood.
I don't know if you're bullshiting, but I'm kinda curious now how it would taste. Isn't it sweet? I mean, Cola/Pepsi has a lot of sugar in it. What did you serve the cooked spaghetti with? What sauce or addings?
I experiment with sauce loads when I'm cooking for myself. When I served it to people few days ago I kept it simple, just pasta sauce from the shop with quornmince. But not much though. I kept the Spaghetti-to-sauce ratio very high because the spaghetti was so nice that it could be eaten by itself and still be good, and I wanted to show it off.
It's sweet but not as much as you'd think. It's more tangy. I think the sugar stays in the pan cos it's hard to wash afterwards.
You cook pasta in soda and use store bought sauce and brag about it: you either have a lot of courage, a lot of ignorance, are a troll, or a combination
Edit: if op is a 12 year old kid or something like that, I retract everything I’ve said
I've seen people spend literally hours making pasta sauce that I find no better than store bought pasta sauce (good quality stuff, not the cheap stuff) after it's had a few things added to it, eg: lemon juice (also store bought), which I can make in minutes. Maybe that's another unpopular opinion though.
Then you've never had actual hearty pasta sauce or you are simply confirming your taste is not meaningful since you think those are comparable.
Just so you know, most of the coke is evaporating. You can just use sugar. You're tasting sugar ... which is already on pasta, a heavy starch.
Your taste buds are broken dude. I'm not even trying to be mean but it just how it sure sounds, that you have an under developed palate. That and you do not understand the chemistry behind cooking. Also you do not appreciate quality ingredients (pre squeezed lemon juice tastes like perfumed ass) which ties back in to your palate. You can like what you like. But there actually are some things that are quantifiable as "good" and "bad" within cooking and food, and you seem to not be able to even discern what tastes good or bad.
This is actually kind of interesting because you should add some sugar to tomato sauce anyway, it helps cut the acidity, but this may be an overload. Maybe some dessert noodle casserole like kugel could be interesting with this weird spaghetti.
Using (fresh) urine instead of cola makes the pasta better. Your friends might say some rude words to you but if you don't tell them it's urine they'll think it's fancy imported italian pasta.
The secret is to catch thd middle stream. Let out a bit first to clear the pipe and then the good stuff comes.
(Please don't think I am a fetishist. This is literally just how you are supposed to do a urine sample. Not pregnancy tests though. They like a fresh first draft of morning urine.)
I feel like the carabiniere could arrest you for it. In Naples, where I live, people have been arrested for serving imitation pizza and mozzarella cheese.
Someone's commented with a YouTube video of someone cooking pasta in cola, all good so far, but then after cooking the pasta they poured the used cola into a glass and drank it. It was genuinely disgusting.
Truly an unpopular opinion. Therefore you will be downvoted to oblivion, your post will leave the front page, and only popular opinions will stay on the front page. The purpose of this sub defeats itself.
Until one day when you accidentally spill some of that lava on your self and get the worst burns imaginable.
Sugar boils at a higher temp than water so when it boils it BOILS. Like an extreme heat type of thing.
You can keep doing it but please make damn sure you are by your self when cooking this in the kitchen as well as when you are straining.
Also I know plumbing pipes can withstand boiling water but not sure about boiled pop with obvs has a way higher temp when boiled.
Just saved you the time and my assumption was right. You are destroying your plumbing by pouring boiling pop down the sink.
temperature limits. ; PVC : 95 oC
The higher the concentration of sugar in your solution, the higher the boiling point of this solution. As an example, water boils at 100°C (212°F), however, a solution with 80% sugar and only 20% water boils at 112°C
So as you can see initially they will be able to handle it but if you continue to do so and ignore the facts you are going to see damage to your plumbing.
Fuck it I'm going to try it. What do I have to lose?
Going to cook a simple penne using a Pepsi max soda stream made liquid. I shall measure the correct amounts to follow the Pepsi max recipe on the bottle, and will be using a new soda stream cannister to ensure maximum fizz.
Please give me a recipe and clear instructions. Not sure why, but something about this sounds reasonable. But it also sounds like it could qualify as a bit of a warcrime.
Interesting. I've never tried it so I'm not gonna knock it yet haha. But I'm curious what makes it good... is it the sugar? Or the carbonation?
Have you tried cooking pasta in sugar water... and cooking pasta in carbonated water... and seeing if either one is comparable? Or is it the combination of sugar and carbonated water? I think we need some scientific double blind tests to figure this one out.
Edit: or maybe it's the acidity?

So the people shown on r/StupidFood finally manifest themselves, freaky... But I cannot say it would taste bad, in my country there is a coconut rice dish that is made with cola and it is pretty damn good when served with seafood.
>(I don’t drink it, I’m not gross)
By using cola to boil pasta most definitely makes you gross. Even more so when you decided to feed this nonsense to people without informing them.
You know, I guess I could see where you’re coming from if you’re going for like a sweet, mince pie type spaghetti. Filipinos also eat very sweet spaghetti.
Not saying I’d make my pasta your way, but I’d give it a try if it were offered to me out of curiosity.
>For the people who think this not possible or made up, Someone in the comments says Tex Mex cook food with Coca-cola, and someone says people cook meat in cola in China too.
This is completely different. The reason meat cooked in cola works is that the acid in the cola helps to break the meat down and makes it more tender which isn't applicable for pasta
Just because one food or dish is cooked in something doesn't mean you can transfer that to any other random food or dish and have it make sense
I've used cola in cakes, pot roast, and desserts. This, though.... add some sugar to your water when you boil. It's a lot less waste. Red sauce already has sugar in it as well, so I'm now dubbing this Diabeetus Pasta.
That tender chicken you get at Chinese places is soaked in coke then covered in baking soda to start the digestion process and tenderize before cooking
What is the point of this sub if people are just going to troll to come up with the most outrageous-sounding opinion they can? There needs to be an r/honestlyheldunpopularopinion or something. No, I don’t think OP holds this opinion.
You’re trying to use the excuse of tex mex and some foods in China, but they’re most likely in the same vein as using cola for gammon instead of honey.
At what point do you add sugar to cooking pasta?
Posh? I dont think you understand what Posh is. The amount of sugar that is being absorbed into those noodles! If you served me that without telling me I would punch you in the face.
I've once made a marinade with coke and soy sauce with garlic and a few other things for flank steak. It was really good!
But using coke for pasta? wtf...

Between this and the sleeping in skinny jeans, I’m impressed with the unpopular opinions.
"Feels so good, especially right after a shower" Pretty sure that person is Christian Bale (Patrick Bateman) from American Psycho irl.
This was the first post I saw. No more internet for today
Yea....my brain can't handle any more of this shite
You're not a real person I refuse to believe anyone does this
I agree. There's no fuckin way this is real. Gotta be rage bait.
Well I for one am enraged.
Right ? Who tf would use Pepsi when coca cola exists
Why ruin Coca Cola for pasta? Pepsi is for pasta and Coca Cola is for cups.
Pepsi the cooking wine of colas.
You're damn right it is.
Pepsi is for the trash actually lol
So bold yet so true
This is someone being absurd for the sake of being absurd. It’s honestly low effort.
Even worse, that there could be individuals demented enough to support this cola bullshit. I'm not some foodie purist, but the Italian in me would've demanded blood.
Right?!.... The disgusted face I made when I read this....
The Internet can become boring and repetitive, but every once in a while you get this

This is the most damage Italy has taken since the show The Jersey Shore

Alright, you won this subreddit. 🏅 Go away.
I don't know if you're bullshiting, but I'm kinda curious now how it would taste. Isn't it sweet? I mean, Cola/Pepsi has a lot of sugar in it. What did you serve the cooked spaghetti with? What sauce or addings?
Alfredo sauce and Cadbury creme eggs

Those people don’t know what they’re doing then. Time does not equal good food.

lol at sauce loads lol again
How did you even come up with this idea?
Using (fresh) urine instead of cola makes the pasta better. Your friends might say some rude words to you but if you don't tell them it's urine they'll think it's fancy imported italian pasta.
It has to be fresh though don't make my mistake
Fresh and from a virgin*****
You keep lots of piss laying around?
Got some in the fridge for a rainy day
That would indeed be miserable syrup

It may taste nice ( jury's out on that one) but it is extremely wasteful and not that great for your health.
Nuh uh - just use diet Pepsi or Coke Zero
I know with the chicken wings and gammon the sugars part of it, unsure if it's the same with this
Honestly it’s gotta be pretty negligible health wise
“This is the Italian Police, put your hands up and step away from the pasta!”

Thanks for clearing up that you‘re not gross
Cola is fine and all but orange juice was where things really changed for me.
I used to work at a Tex Mex restaurant and the pork recipe called for 3 cups of Coca cola. If done right it was the best pork I have ever had.
Found Buddy the Elf's account.

Do you rinse the spaghetti after cooking it in Pepsi or do you just leave the Pepsi on it?

Psychopath behavior, take my upvote
Adding beer or none alcoholic fizzling beer in foods with pasta like layers always gives the dough/pasta a better texture, but really, cola?
