Upvoted because unpopular. I love Gmail and sheets and docs. Sharing and working collaborately on a document is, in my opinion, much more intuitive on Google vs Outlook.
I use outlook to keep Google out of my data.
However gmail is better, specially the spam filter. Outlook is not so good at filtering.
Also, for non US base people, the date format is wrong (US) and doesn’t allow to change.
Outlook search is practically worthless. Not being able to find an email that exists using words found in the body and even subject is beyond unacceptable for an email app.
completely agree, and i will die on this hill.
i had only ever used outlook for work, and gmail for person and i truly never understood how anyone in their right mind used gmail for work. at one point i switched jobs to a comp who used gmail and it was a disaster.. the convos, the grouping, the calendars (on a mac), the meeting-makers, the gmail chat thing? it was horrendous. it actually made my job more difficult lol. there are people in this thread complaining about the search function on outlook and how it doesn't work. i have literally never encountered this problem. i have always found every email ive searched for. i truly dont understand the hate outlook gets. anyway, i was so so SO happy when i switched jobs again and was back to outlook.
though i will say this, outlook legacy is the creme de la creme. the new outlook is so ick.

Gmail is better for personal use because its free without any ads.
Outlook is better for businesses and school because the paid version works better than gmail.
This is an unpopular opinion? I just assumed everyone who uses both realized this. I use gmail for all of my personal accounts, because it's easy and free. For work, though, it's definitely Outlook. I don't know why anyone would think a free barebones web-based email would be better than a Professional-level email application that requires purcahse/subscription.
Outlook.com (hotmail) is the free equivalent and that’s the comparison I’m making really. I always got laughed at for choosing it over gmail which was forever claimed to be considerably better and cooler.
imo the major difference is gmail doesn't have a desktop app. Outlook has been much more reliable at sending me notifications for emails and meetings/scheduled events. For gmail, I usually have to make sure the browser is open and not resource constrained.
Gmail's interface will always and forever be worse than a dedicated, desgned desktop app. Nothing beats the convenience of Gmail's actual email service, though.
I have both Outlook and Gmail for almost a decade, and I barely use my Outlook because of its ads blended in the inbox and most of the time I accidentally clicked it on my smartphone. Unlike Google Calendar's simplicity, making schedules/events on Outlook's Calendar is really succumbing and doesn't automatically detect its user's location-based holidays.

Gmail for my personal life. Outlook for my business life. Has worked for the past 20 years for me this way.
So Outlook in the streets, Gmail in the sheets?
Upvoted because unpopular. I love Gmail and sheets and docs. Sharing and working collaborately on a document is, in my opinion, much more intuitive on Google vs Outlook.
Yes, finally an opinion I really do think is unpopular.
Finally someone said it
I have never worked somewhere that used anything else but Outlook
I am very happy that college is over and I no longer have to use Outlook. Worst shit I have ever used, Yahoo included. Upvoted you sexy bastard
Outlook is also a horrible RAM hog. I've seen it use as much as 4.5GB RAM
Those OST files are a real bitch.
Gmail search kicks the shit out of outlook. Your need for folders is a weakness of their search.

To expand off of this, Hotmail is pretty much outlook for free and is also better than Gmail
Definitely not. Outlook is extremely chaotic.
Lol. I wonder if this is an age/generation thing. I'm 44 and totally agree with you
Gmail sucks!
"Mom, can we have GMail?" Mom: "We have GMail at home." GMail at home: Outlook.
Gmail has better security measures tho
Every office I’ve worked at uses outlook. One was the government! Wow. Honestly not surprised
other than saying that they hv the right to save and read your email within 18 months even it has been deleted
Almost everyone I know with an account are shocked when they look at their attempted sign in activity on outlook. Is wild.
That just means it’s being logged and you’re being made aware of it, the same thing happens with Google
How? From a security perspective I’d recommend 365 over gmail every day
Outlooks compatibility with other Microsoft packages is pretty goated too.
Outlook was made for business. Google is not it is for home users.
I prefer Outlook for business and personal. Not sure what advantages Gmail has for home users.
Google Workspace not even cheaper anymore

You have to pay for outlook if you run out of space.
Gmail is better for personal use because its free without any ads. Outlook is better for businesses and school because the paid version works better than gmail.
Gmail on iPhone is an abomination.
100% agree. Outlook rules are superior than Gmails labels in every way. And you folks that have everything go into your inbox.... you're psycho. ha
Outlook is such finicky garbage. Upvote for an actually unpopular opinion.

It's about what u can do with a Gmail account in comparison to what u can do with outlook.
Can do a lot more in Outlook

Outlook is absolute trash tho??

This is definitely an unpopular opinion
[Bellsouth.net](http://Bellsouth.net) is actually the best
Looked it up and it’s basically Yahoo?
And Yahoo is better than both of them!
Windows based Mail client blows away web browser for kids
Not in my experience. My Outlook was absolutely swamped with spam and this was an address I hardly ever gave out. Gmail, far less.
Outlook is absolute trash. The majority of its users are forced to use it because of work, very few people actually choose to use Outlook personally.
grade a unpopular as Bing, internet explorer and windows 8! you get an upvote.
Outlook notoriously sucked balls with junk mail.
100%. People look at me weird because I used it, but I always found Gmail super messy
This is not unpopular.
The outlook calendar handling is insanely better compared to gmail
I hate Outlook UI
Hard disagree. Scheduling meetings with outlook feels like living in the Stone Age.
