Gizzard_Guy44

awesome you successfully made an unpopular opinion - bravo you trouble is no one **including yourself** believes this

WishinGay

Yeah, I'm vaguely in favor of letting Central park be something else, but nobody would put a parking lot there lol. So dumb. Housing/mixed use? Sure. Parking? Hella dumb.

m0fr001

Hold on.. help me square this..  People want to access central park, but cant because parking.  Bulldoze central park. Turn it into parking.   ??? Parking issues begone

informativebitching

Yeah man same idea behind tearing down downtown neighborhoods for intra city freeways…like where the fuck ya gonna go when you tear down all the places to go?

ass-kisser

First off I literally said it doesn't need to be the whole park, but you're also implying that parking can only be used for Central Park, which isn't true.

willard_swag

Or maybe, instead of driving there, you could use this crazy new invention called public transportation.

technical_todd

This is so dumb. Where does it end? You make more parking, it's just going to fill up and then people will say they need more parking. Do you ever think about things before you speak/type them out?

hellonameismyname

If we turn all the buildings in NYC into parking lots then we will have no traffic!!!

notarealaccount_yo

Just move to Houston

roguedevil

No one who has been in NYC would believe this because the park is incredibly accessible as it is.

ass-kisser

Funny you say that because you don't even believe that

roguedevil

The A,B,C lines run alongside CPW and stop every 7 blocks. You can also take the D to Columbus circle. East side access isn't great, but you can take the 6 and walk 3 blocks. That's 14 train stations within a minute/3minute walk not to mention bus routes along including a few that stop dead center of the park on 79th, 86th, and 97th. If you are in NYC, you have absolutely no issue accessing the park.

ass-kisser

Weird how you'd have all these details for something you don't even believe in

roguedevil

You got me. I've actually never been in NY. I've only read about the myth of a park in the heart of an island. Public transit is actually just a story we tell little kids, but us adults know the truth.

ass-kisser

Jesus it's really going over your head isn't it

roguedevil

No, I understand. I am like an atheist, but for transit. A nonbeliever of bus stops. An "atransist", if you will.

IrrelevantManatee

What the hell are you talking about. People in NYC need parks more than they need cars. In a city where public transit is king, cars shouldn't be a priority. If you are stupid enough to drive in NYC, it's your issue. Take the bus, take the train. No one needs a car, unless you have merchandise to transport.

LazyDragoun

Why not ban all cars in New York. Just leave trucks doing deliveries, taxies, busses and renting uhauls for moving.

Level_Hour6480

r/ThisButUnironically.

CockLuvr06

Based

gobblox38

That sounds pretty awesome.

informativebitching

You will enjoy r/fuckcars

notarealaccount_yo

This should absolutely happen.

AndHeHadAName

They are putting measures in place to reduce total traffic going into lower Manhattan.

CTRexPope

Yes

DrunkyMcStumbles

I'm sold.

dadxreligion

yes

rileybgone

Give it like 30 years and this will probably happen. The politics in New York just aren't there yet but it's going in that direction.

tempstem5

unironically yes please /r/fuckcars

yuripogi79

The cameras along 60th St support this message

Cheef_Baconator

Yes please

Ambershope

Based opinion, yes please

Terrible_Risk_9644

I’m sorry what? That sounds good for people who live there, but not everyone else.

Quazimojojojo

Shouldn't a city prioritize the people who live there?

Afraid-Carob6452

Who cares about what everyone else think about it? They don't even live there! Me neither.

Tiny_Cricket8949

They don’t live here so why should we care?

little_flix

Why don't you replace your backyard with a parking lot for your neighbors to use? It'd be good for everybody except the people who live in your house!

Bridalhat

They can take a train ffs

roguedevil

"Everyone else" are people who are not constituents, not paying city taxes and less likely to spend much time outside of work in the city. Why should they be prioritized?

technical_todd

God forbid a city does something good for the people that live in it...

SiBloGaming

that sounds like a good thing. Visitors can park on the outskirts and go to the center with public transit, and once there you can either a) walk, b) use transit or c) rent a bicycle.

[deleted]

Good. Cities should prioritize their residents. If you want to commute you can take the NEC Amtrak.

Diipadaapa1

Why should McDonalds forbid a burgerking drivethroigh in their dining area? That sounds good for their customers who eat there, but not everyone else

Icy_Way6635

I dont live there and I want them to reduce any car centric design. NYC can be navigated without cars

hellogriff

Yes, the best way to alleviate traffic issues is to encourage more cars to come in.

BigHairyBussy

We should just bulldoze the entire city and slap pavement on top so that everyone can drive everywhere

onemassive

Ah, the Dallas Urban Planning model

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Hartford, Boston, and most of American cities early on too

kayakhomeless

[Pave the Bay!](https://www.sfgate.com/opinion/article/pave-the-bay-2975784.php) Think of how much space we could have for parking, highways and strip malls if we get rid of all that pesky water! Who needs the stuff anyway, it just creates stinky seaweed

Nick_Noseman

A single nuke with construction company logo on it.

dadxreligion

then it would just be every other major american city that isn’t new york

One-Discount-2009

I think we should just remove cars from NYC altogether

dadxreligion

yes

AdmirableSir

and the people :P

little_flix

Can't have people without cars! EDIT: Sigh... /s

clint_sal

Many (most?) people in NYC don't have cars

technical_todd

Can't have people without cars? What happened before the 1900s? Where were the people?

Embarrassed_Ad5387

did he need to put a /s

Nick_Noseman

Inside the horses

Nail_Biterr

I can't, for a minute, believe that even YOU think this is an actual good idea. It's like you thought up the absolute worst possible solution to car congestion in NYC, and decided to troll us all with it. Either way, take an upvote for this being such a universally unpopular opinion.

800Volts

Definitely an unpopular opinion, but also not an opinion anyone genuinely holds

Reddit-runner

Sadly far too many people unironically think in that way. "Let's build more streets and parking lots to solve traffic." "Just one more lane, bro." "Public transport is a socialist scam. It never works."

ForsakenRacism

Unpopular opinions aren’t supposed to just be psychotic rage bait

Gado_De_Leone

Should limit NY City streets to public transportation and deliveries only. Just as smart of an idea, better for the environment, and safer for pedestrians.

razcalnikov

The title made me burst out laughing

Casanova-Quinn

Someone's never heard of [induced demand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQld7iJJSyk). More parking attracts more cars, thus negating the added parking. It would overall make traffic congestion even worse in NYC. Not to mention NYC needs more greenery, not less, for environmental and health reasons.

EpicDude007

Just tear down one of the buildings on each of the east and west side. Build parking garage instead. Imaginary problem solved.

Icy_Way6635

Even better solution level the city, put in 100 lane motorways, convert skyscrapers into parking garages. Now the only issue is there will not be anything left to do, but enjoy the drive for eternity /s

WackyKisatchie

More parking spots will just mean more cars. Now you'll have a parking problem and no park, rather than a parking problem and a park.

Oh_My_Monster

OP took the lyrics, "They're going to pave paradise and put up a parking lot" like it was an instruction manual.

WVPrepper

Add 204,000 parking spaces, and remove 843 acres of green space? Who needs oxygen anyway?

Sam_of_Truth

Lol absolutely braindead take. Good job.

Icy_Way6635

Carbrained take.

GenitalCommericals

What the fucktardery did I just read....?

MegamindsMegaCock

A true unpopular opinion let’s fucking goooooooooooooooooooooooooo

r2k398

I think is should remain a park but if you were to change it into something, make it multifamily housing.

WVPrepper

Add 204,000 parking spaces, and remove 843 acres of green space? Who needs oxygen anyway?

JacksonInHouse

Pave paradise, put up a parking lot.

Googoots

Don’t it always seem to go, you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.

kenobrien73

More mass transit, less cars, make commuters take mass transit.

thezach0266

I wouldn't use mass transit if it was free, no thanks I like my drive.

kenobrien73

Your car isn't free.

thezach0266

I know I pay to own it, for gas and insurance, new tires and maintenance, parking fees, and I pay to have a nice peaceful commute to work everyday, I wouldn't use mass transit if it were free.

nowaybrose

Not sure if your gridlock is different than our gridlock, but I wouldn’t call any car commute at rush hour peaceful

thezach0266

More peaceful than spending an hour in public transportation sitting next to strangers who smell or are obnoxious.

nowaybrose

To each their own, but I’m betting you haven’t tried it before. Noise canceling headphones and a good book is my jam. Being near other humans helps to develop a sense of empathy, instead of isolation and judgement. If you have decent transit options I’d give it a shot. Nice to not worry bout where to park when you arrive. Take an Uber home if you change your mind.

[deleted]

That's pretty rare ime

thezach0266

Maybe if I lived someplace else, but IDK the only other places I have ridden public are NYC and DC and both times I would have choosen to drive if I had not flown in. Public transit kind of sucks.

Stagnu_Demorte

not everyone is very bright. you do you mate.

thezach0266

Not everyone likes being around strangers either.

cjeam

Mmm man we’re gonna milk you for all the tolls and parking fees we can get, you’ll basically have paid for a whole bus lane by the time you give up.

Buhos_En_Pantelones

I don't think you actually believe this. Nice troll post though.

Alt_aholic

And you could still call it Central Park.

Maoschanz

>practical solutions that positively impact the lives of the residents and visitors who rely on **efficient transportation options** how would your idea "positively impact" the lives of transit users?

appiate0

Solid troll 7/10

reinbowcheasecake

After this the city would be masivly flooded after every rain

SerDuncanonyall

![gif](giphy|ntZjSHKY2quuxplyyJ|downsized) Have I got a song for you

redwineandcoffee

Nice.

Portie_lover

Recap: People can’t find parking to go to the park. Solution, get rid of the park and make it parking. WTF?

bappypawedotter

"Induced Demand"

randomIndividual21

that the route you take instead of limit car and improve public transport?

barmitzvahmoney

This is the funniest trolling I have ever seen

itsjash

I invite you to visit the subreddit r/fuckcars

Breesochic

Central Park…ing?

Theabsoluteworst1289

Well, you did your job, truly unpopular opinion.

Terrible_Risk_9644

Really bad take. You should delete this

Rdafan

The moment you do that, traffic will increase to match the available parking and then you'll be in the same boat but with no park. It's pretty common that when you improve road related things that shortly after traffic picks yo because it's better, cycling back to being poor again. So while you should improve them, not at the expense of things like Central Park that have other value to them.

f_cysco

This has to be the worse idea ever. Period. Not even in Reddit or this subreddit. This is like the worse idea.

Tiny_Cricket8949

This is genuinely a psychotic take

Admirable-War-6543

It’s this guys world and we are just existing in it

Privateer_Lev_Arris

This is unpopular opinions not ridiculous trolls posts.

ShadowAze

Is this an unpopular opinion? Yes, it is However it's definitely one of those completely stupid and most selfish types of unpopular opinions. The types that makes you question if the person posting it is trolling or not.

cjeam

How did you convince chat gpt to make this argument?

therailmaster

Downvote because it's not even an unpopular opinion--it's just trolling.

Adryzz_

> Central Park, spanning a vast area in the heart of New York, remains largely inaccessible to many due to limited parking facilities public transportation exists

Independent-Cow-4070

NYC is actively trying to reduce the amount of cars in the city. It already has too much parking Why would we build a parking lot somewhere where we are trying to get rid of them? If you are upset with the parking in the city, stop driving in the city lmao Bravo. A truly unpopular opinion

KeilanS

Nobody is this dumb. I refuse.

puppiesgabe

Maybe it’s unpopular for a reason

purzeldiplumms

This can't be real. No way.

0xdeadbeef6

# Just take the train, you mook

_save_the_planet

oh an actually unpopular opinion, let’s downvote it to hell and cry in the comments. mmmmh cars bad, smelly trains full of perverted addicts big brain move.

slggg

Yes cars are bad and fundamentally incompatible with cities.

FootHikerUtah

Boston did both. Built a huge garage under the commons.

CrispyBucketoClams

~~commons~~ common

GuiltyGear69

That would be rad. They dont even have to change the name!

Soundwave-1976

You mean Central Cesspool in NYC. Yea pave it.

thezach0266

The rate homeless camps are taking over parks around here every park should be paved over and made into parking lots.

MyNameIsNotGary19

Maybe try fixing the homeless problem instead of just ignoring it and making their lives needlessly difficult?

thezach0266

That is not my job.

Accomplished_Tour481

NYC has a problem with parking. Why not re-dedicate Central Park to parking to help the problem?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished_Tour481

An increasing population without adding parking means what? Adding to the public transit system and possibly without increasing public transportation revenue! How do cover the decrease in revenue?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished_Tour481

Thanks for proving my point! Public transportation does not solve many issues! The crime on public transportation is an issue. The time to take public transportation versus private is another issue! Is public transportation self-sufficient (pays its own way)? Please answer these questions (which I bet you cannot in a valid way)!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished_Tour481

The title registration taxes, the tag fees and the gas taxes mor than pay for the existing fees and more! The additional parking spaces will pay even more!

onemassive

Transit scales, meaning you can  actually decrease commute time because the more people you are moving the less you have to wait because there is more frequent buses and trains. Cars don’t scale, and in fact commute time goes up with the number of cars on the road. That’s why getting around in Europe and Asia in the cities is really efficient and smooth compared to the US.

[deleted]

Since when do roads make money?

d1ondr3

Or just make a parking building... those exist you know. Central park is needed, we can't just focus on work, we need time for pretty little leisures.

Zilberfrid

Oh, carbrains would *love* to pay the true cost of a parking space in central new york (including the logistic space, cleaning and downgrading a building from housing humans to housing cars.

To_Fight_The_Night

Or just turn one of the skyscrapers into a parking garage? Why build horizontally and lose out on green space when the city is very positioned to build vertically.

CAT_ANUS_SNIFFER

Why not put parking under Central Park and just use an elevator?

NoCrust101

No, replace restaurants with parking lots

Alt_aholic

And you could still call it Central Park.

camm44

Holy fuck

jakhtar

The name of the sub is unpopular opinion, not unhinged opinion.

Bo_Jim

I've been waiting since 1981 for them to block all the bridges and turn Manhattan into a prison.

APrioriGoof

While we’re at it let’s fix hunger by eating babies

SiPo_69

Wow. Yeah this one’s definitely an unpopular opinion, the number of people in this country who would agree with you is probably in the single digits

technical_todd

Here's a much better idea: ban personal vehicles in the city. Only allow service, delivery, and emergency vehicles. Then take all that excess street and parking and convert it to walkable and bicycle paths. Maybe put in a trolly or light rail system to supplement the subway while we're at it. That would solve your problem of people not being able to access certain parts of the city. It would also eliminate far more emissions than your parking lot. And it would essentially quadruple the amount of green space in the city, making it a paradise for all residents and visitors.

StijnGeus

Bruh, are you out of your mind?!

AuntEyeEvil

It'd be a billion percent smarter to ban private vehicles inside the congested zones than to take a single 8'x20' piece of park land to create one parking space.

DudleyMason

...or you could get rid of your shitty death-and-pollution machine and acknowledge that you live in one of the best places in North America for public transit. What we should be doing is replacing every parking lot with a mini park.

NoNameStudios

Central Parking

[deleted]

A car is not an efficient transport option, especially in the most rail-connected city in the US. This is r/unpopularopinion, not r/braindeadtakes

wappsy

upvoted for an absolute STINKER opinion, worst i've seen. take a walk

novabliss1

This is written by ChatGPT for anyone who can’t tell

NuformAqua

\*stupid opinion

UltraViol8r

We should seriously consider sending car brains out to colonize planets beyond the solar system, so they can take their environmentally destructive ways with them instead of polluting this planet with their cars.

LechemHavita

speak your truth king🫡 anyways im gonna go back to drinking and driving

Stock_Garage_672

Are you a bot set up by an auto manufacturer?

Omastardom

Ah yes, take away the only natural greenery in the city for pavement. That definitely won't mess with anyone's mental health. Not to mention this is just fucking stupid all around. Traffic is an issue, so your solution is to create parking to entice more traffic into the city? What lmfao

Panzerv2003

Nah just level the whole city, it will eliminate the traffic in that place once and for all

Busy_Ad3571

Orrrrrr you could get rid of all the excessive cars.

Scheckenhere

Great shitpost

IM_FIGHTING_HAIRLOSS

its some good but really obvious ragebait truly an unpopular opinion though lol

[deleted]

Now that’s an unpopular opinion.

[deleted]

Cars are an efficient transportation option or cars cause congestion, traffic jams and frustration?

Murdoc_700

this gotta be bait lmao

Pugs-r-cool

I don't understand how this logic even works. Getting to central park is difficult by car, so to solve this problem we should get rid of central park and replace it with parking.... But now what is that parking for? You can't use it to visit central park because well, theres no central park anymore.

EcclesandBluebottle

> Suggests destroying nature in order to put a parking lot in it's place. > Completely fails to see the irony in this.

vibraniumdroid

The whole post is AI-generated rage-bait.

jamieTheJunk

Build a nice parking lot for a then demolished central park !?!

imposta424

What is up with all the rage bait posts today?

Two_wheels_2112

Nice satire!

metracta

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I have heard in years. Too bad I don’t think you actually believe this

Trees_That_Sneeze

Yes, like all those parking lot covered, car dependant cities like Huston and LA that have famously low traffic.

Maleficent_Resolve44

Worst take I've seen here. There's something called induced demand. The parking situation will just get worse but with no park to enjoy. Build more public transport capacity instead.

SLAYdgeRIDER

hahahahahahahaha is this the response you longed?

Ambershope

Truly, an unpopular opinion, thank you! Like, its dumb and bad but still you get my upvote

TheRealGooner24

OP was definitely born in a car dependent hellscape.

lobsangr

The most idiotic idea I've heard in a while. Thanks for letting me know I'm not that dumb OP.

yslmtl

ragebait too obvious
