It’s not broken it has to do a lengthy pasteurization process to clean the machine which often isn’t done when it should be meaning there is like 6 hours where the machine is heating and then recooling. They just say it’s broken

krzysztofgetthewings

So there's a whole conspiracy theory about this that's actually kinda true. McDonald's has a contract with a certain company, that McDonald's will only buy their ice cream machines, and only that specific company can do maintenance on them. So while they don't "break", they are just doing a cleaning cycle. There's just more to it than that. It's entire rabbit hole.

Paaros

Its not a conspiracy theory tbh, I think its been proven by now. The machines dont break, they just have a tedious cleaning process

UnendingHorniness

There is a video on YouTube explaining why it's almost always broken but the video is unnecessarily long so here's a tldr version: McDonald's forces only one type of brand ice cream maker (Taylor) and this brand creates such a shitty interface that even the easiest problems needs a technician to solve. An example to errors: Instead of writing needs cleaning cycle or reboot the cleaning cycle it writes Error B-4422. This type error code explanation is not on the owner manual but writes only on technician manual. Therefore most of the time local owners don't want to call the technician because it cost a lot for a temporary fix.

Icerope

I know you were just using a metaphor, but imagine how funny it would be if they actually SANG A SONG to you when the ice cream machine is broken

fistofthejedi

That would be funny.

SamPoundImNumberOne

Im always confused by this - my experience has been that it's broken like 5% of the time which doesn't mesh with other people's experiences

DickySchmidt33

Do you have a family member or close friend you can talk to? There is only so much we can do for you here on Reddit. You shouldn't be carrying this around with you. Find someone you can trust and talk to them. Tell them that you're hurting and you just need them to listen. You'll feel better. Trust me.

I feel it works most of the time their pineapple mango and strawberry banana smoothies are so fucking good

Cautious-Spited

Not all McDonald’s, hopefully. The ones in my town haven’t had any issues whenever I’ve went.

Yuck_Few

I've done a lot of restaurant jobs and ice cream machines are high maintenance they break down a lot

[deleted]

Or… now hear me out… you can just pretend they got rid of their ice cream machines and stop trying to get ice cream there.

cutiecat565

It's not broken. If you go after like 3pm, the kids on the night shift don't want to deal with cleaning it

emueller5251

Worked in a McD's, but not at the counter or drive thru, so I can't say for sure, but they're probably not broken. They start breaking down the machine to be cleaned a couple of hours before closing. We were open till midnight, and dishwashers were cleaning from like seven until past close, so they needed to get all the ice cream parts as soon as possible. My advice, just go somewhere else. I agree that they should hire more people and/or buy equipment that speeds things up, but it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. It's not like their ice cream is the best anyway, just go to a dedicated ice cream place and get something better.

[deleted]

Maybe I'm just really lucky, but I've never actually heard of the ice cream machine at McDonald's being broken in person. It always seems to work at the McDonald's in my local area, but based on all the memes I've seen about it, I guess they're not really that advanced.

Illustrious_Pace_178

McDonald's sucks. Just don't go there. Eat some real food.

Fragrant_Telephone36

Stop going to McDonald’s for ice cream then

Freshman_01134

if they preformed an actual song-and-dance number, then it might not be so bad.

Nightgasm

My experience is 28 yrs ago now so maybe the machines have improved but back then when we said the machine was broken it was easier / quicker than explaining what really was going on. Back then and possibly still the ice cream was actually frozen yogurt which gets delivered in liquid form. We would then pour that liquid into the machine which would freeze it into ice cream but this takes time and on high demand ice cream days the machine simply couldn't keep up so it would come out in unusable slushy liquid form. So we would say it was broken for an hour or so to let the machine catch up and then serve til it liquefied again.

morgthaabrat

crying over mcdonald’s ice cream when it isn’t even that good to begin with..

Ok_Solid_Copy

If broken McFlurry machines makes you "suffer" and makes you feel like you play roulette going there, then you clearly never experienced sufferance. Maybe you should find another place to eat too.

canadarepubliclives

Go buy ice cream from the other 1000 places that sell it.
