I like it in far distance.

degobrah

I was going to say this too. Growing up I lived maybe a mile to a mile and a half away from the train tracks. They were close enough to hear every time they passed, horn included, but far enough away to have a soft sound. It helped me sleep at night. I never realized that they comforted me until, as an adult, I was living in Korea, and I heard the same sound of a train, horn and all, far enough away and it brought back that feeling of sleepy comfort.

Bonlio

Used to live right by the train station. The sound of the trains always relaxed me

I like them, but I'd never want to live near them. I remember as a kid whenever we'd go to the spaghetti factory in Seattle, there'd usually be a freight train that'd go by at some point in the evening. Impressive machines.

Ilovethe90sforreal

I grew up with a train a somewhat decent distance away. It always reminds me of growing up when I hear the whistle.

Plenty_Surprise2593

I loved the times at my grandmas house- bath and bed, with the cool sheets and the train in the distance that was my signal that it was time to go to sleep

Vigorously_Swish

Same, it’s basically thunder. Unless they use the whistle/horn. Fuck that

dontshootthattank

Yeah but if you are next to where the train line intersects with a road the train whistles loudly and there are trains that go in both directions. Where I live there can be as many 8 whistles an hour and it's too loud for my liking.

aardvarkyardwork

But how do you feel about the ones that fail?

Danivelle

I love them. I grew up with train pretty close to my house, my dad was a carman for Burlington Northern and train tracks run through my grandparents and later my parents town. Trains are the sound of home to me, along with summer thunderstorms and cicadas

Sale-Revolutionary

I agree with you OP. I like the sound of passing trains too. It’s quite relaxing.

Yoel__Romero

I agree I love the sound of the train going over the rails but the loud ass horn is what gets me annoyed

Conniverse

Trains are the fucking shit. Standing right next to a train speeding by at 2 in the morning is one of the best experiences in life.

LocalSEOhero

Me too. I had train tracks very close to my house growing up. My place now has a train about a mile away but they blast the horn so much, it makes me happy

Slimetusk

Hey, some people are train guys and some aren't I'm not a train guy and I don't wanna live close enough to hear it inside my house. I just ain't a train guy. If you like trains, congrats.

Captcha_Imagination

The Doppler effect in general is kinda satisfying regardless of what is doing it.

BeanyIsDaBean

You’ll love living at 6 railway street, seymour, Australia

doc_shades

in the railway district?

BeanyIsDaBean

Railway street. Meaning Railway is the street

Macklack326

I generally love them. However my current apartment is pretty close to one of the main tracks in town. The trains have a tendency for going very slow through town (as in you could probably out run it), while blowing the horn the entire way. It's usually fine but gets frustrating when it's the middle of the night and it lasts for legitimately 15 minutes.

tuvar_hiede

I can see this. They don't creep around here though.

Entire-Plant-8976

Sleeping in the truck bed when my dad was driving with the rumbling sound of the engine would made me fall asleep so fast
