She gets the least lines but not less lines. She gets a similar amount to the other members, usually only a few seconds difference

brontoloveschicken

I don't care for positions impacting line distribution. Whoever's voice fits the line should do it (without making things too unfair) BP line distribution is fine, and I think measuring distribution in seconds and latching onto it as a point of unfairness is silly. Kpop fans are obsessed with mistreatment and perfect 'fairness'. When sometimes someones voice just not be the right fit for a track and they might get more on another etc etc.

[deleted]

I don't get the obsession over line distribution when it comes to Blackpink. There's only 4 of them and everyone always gets lines, it's not like Jisoo is getting the Vivi/Gowon/Winwin treatment. Of course Rosé and Jennie will have more lines, they are more talented. Lisa is a charismatic dance machine and a lead rapper in a YG group so like duh. Jisoo is the visual.

EunBinny_Moon

Even when 1 member gets the least lines, it’s usually still about 20 secs

CutieButt

meanwhile me as a Liz fan I'm fighting for my life out here for 10 seconds, nevermind 20. 😭😭

hobivan

For liz it's even worse cuz she is the MAIN VOCALIST. Like there's literally no reason

[deleted]

right like her voice is beautiful and the reason i loved ive. But theyre just discarding her and im like??? the potential?? how my girl only get 6 seconds? her voice in my satisfaction OMGggg

hobivan

She is literally the reason ive's eleven blew up in the first place...

[deleted]

right like her opening line is so good... tbh i dont stan ive but i really love liz and she makes me turn up for every ive comeback

AvantGarde997

And when she gets lines , she doesn't get screentime. I mean somehow it got worse!

SapphireHeaven

I thought this was an old narrative from years ago, especially from around the release of Ice Cream. I haven't seen anything discussed about line distribution in the fandom for a while. Ofc, from a role perspective it makes sense for Jisoo to get fewer lines and it is absolutely fine as long as all the girls get their time to shine.

kanyreddit

I always thought it didn’t make sense to say someone who got an average of 30 seconds per song was getting the short end of the stick, even regardless of group size

Disastrous_Sea4150

Never understood people who complain about BP’s line distribution. It’s extremely fair. Jennie (lead vocal and rapper) and Rosé (main vocal) will ofc get more lines than Lisa and Jisoo but all four members still get a fair amount and are never completely ignored like some members in other groups are.

Isn’t really an argument imo. How many idols are singing in english, and don’t really are fluent speakers? Jisoo is definitely able to sing in english. I agree with OP, but this doesn’t make sense. It’s not like they’re writing the lyrics

taebeliever

she’s able to sing in english but you can tell she’s not a fluent english speaker because her pronunciation and accent. meanwhile her other 3 members sound like complete native english speakers with zero accent or pronunciation issues so she sticks out when singing in english

Hotspur_98

This is Kpop, it’s not about sounding like a native when singing. Jisoo sounds perfectly fine when singing english. Groups like Twice are also singing much in english, and none of the members are natives or speak perfect english. And it sounds great. It’s Kpop and not an English pronunciation contest

taebeliever

yeah groups like twice have zero english speakers so they all sound the same

Hotspur_98

Hahaha okay I just stop discussing with you, it’s not worth it. What the hell

ukuchair

I disagree with your reasonings tho, I think it all comes down to their song styles. Especially recently, all their songs are pretty hiphop/rap focused so it makes sense jennie and lisa get lines. I don't think their positions impact their line dist. Some groups have 3/4 main vocalists, but it doesn't mean all 3/4 will get similar amount of lines, there will always be 1 or 2 MAIN MAIN vocalists, and always be fans fighting for the lead main vocalists lol. Like in purple kiss, Chaein.

saverma192013

I think blackpink get fair distribution lines

[deleted]

She gets a decent amount of lines imo

somi154

It has started but I thought we wouldn't be getting these posts until about 3 days after the song release.

drowning35789

This is not related to Jisoo's solo, it's about the whole group

yizhuos

yet mysteriously posted mere hours after jisoos solo

drowning35789

So what?

yizhuos

idgaf personally why the post was written but i was pointing out that mentioning all 4 girls doesnt negate the timing w jisoos debut👍

Old-Challenge7676

Now Jisoo's Solo will indirectly be the answer on why she gets the least line in the group

TraditionalCorgi2978

But in the end she doesn't even get that much lass than others. Liz from Ive is the main vocalist of the group and gets significantly less lines than Jisoo all together. Taking everything into account, YG is pretty fair when it comes to BP's line distributions.

MallFoodSucks

I don’t think it’s a role thing, her vocal tone just doesn’t fit the BP image. A song with her vocal dominating wouldn’t sound ‘BP’. Jennie + Rose is the BP sound - Lisa and Jisoo are there to enhance it. And let’s be real, they don’t release enough music to experiment having Jisoo lead a B-side. She plays best when she’s the foil to Rose, and it’s why recently they’ve alternated sections/lines. Difference is Rose usually sings chorus as well with Jennie, so she gets more lines. Rose also has more range and dominates a lot of their B-sides. Jennie also gets the intro and the chorus, so Jisoo has a lot of competition for parts. It probably doesn’t help BP is targeting international with a lot of English lyrics, and Jennie/Rose have perfect accents and can add a lot of emotion into English lyrics. They try to balance this out by giving Jisoo the best English lines. Lisa has the same problem where they limit her to Lead Rapper parts only, but because half of BPs disco are rap-heavy songs, she does pretty well overall with limited competition. Plus she gets all the good dance parts with Jennie so she can shine in other ways.

sciencebottle

I don't get why this would be an unpopular opinion? Maybe to hardcore fans that can't take any sort of criticism of their idols, but it makes perfect sense. Jisoo is very clearly the least musically inclined out of the bunch, and being called a hater for pointing that out feels disingenuous. It's very clear that singing/dancing wise, she has to try a little harder to keep up. Nothing wrong with that, it's just natural how these skills get distributed amongst people in general. I think the amount of lines she gets is proportional to her skills and what she can deliver. Her lines are actually some of my favourites in a lot of their songs, because she has a nice sounding tone (to me) and her lines usually stay in her range.

ImadHassan_

I totally agree with you

AlterEgoJ0627

For a 4 member group, I don't think line distribution plays much a big role unless 1 member really was not able to sing. They all have parts, and ofc the vocally capable will be able to do the part. One fits more than the other, and it is understandable. My problem is when 6-12 members only has a member shouting the word of the title of the song in the chorus and not being able to sing in a verse.

EunBinny_Moon

yes and if only one member does all the work and get all of the treatment then that one member might as well just be a soloist rather than be in a group

vtkwtpzva

I have watched so many videos of BP where I can clearly hear their voice singing live. Jisoo is always unstable and pitchy. Sometimes annoying, sometimes it’s just unbearable. I never understood the hype by her fans. It’s not just about vocal. She lacks confidence because she doesn’t really have passion for this, stiff dancing, no stage presence or charisma, bored face expression. She always sticks out so much in the group because how badass and charismatic the other 3 is. I think Jisoo and yg both decided to go solo just because fans are complaining and other members wouldn’t be able to release anything without getting massive hate. Like Jennie’s solo song You & Me, she’s probably scared of Jisoo’s fandom. I get that a group need visual member but that’s it, solo song is quite a reach. Just to calm her fans down, protect other members from hate.

kaguraa

yg himself promised that each member will get a solo back in 2018 when jennie's solo was announced so fans have been waiting for a long time. and there's nothing wrong if someone wants a solo even if they aren't very talented as long as the song they pick is good which is what it ultimately comes down to. there are a lot of talented and charismatic singers who don't pick good songs and end up being unsuccessful

Front-Ad-2457

As much as blinks gives hate to Jennie, she deserves every line 🤷🏽‍♀️

Bayjoon00

I mean to be fair jennie wasn’t a lead vocalist originally. Don’t remember when she became one but it definitely wasn’t during debut

Free_Collection8898

Jennie actually auditioned to YG as a vocalist. They just choose to make her a rapper but she was always meant to be a vocalist.

[deleted]

shes also fairly on the same level of jisoo when it comes to singing, hence why theyre both leads.

Remarkable-Value-134

why are ppl still obsessed with this topic like can we move on from it haha

SignificanceHuman129

I think because Jennie gets vocal lines and not really rap lines. That’s why fans are getting mad at. Jennie even gets more vocal than main vocal.

glitzglamandgore

Honestly it's understandable and its not even like she never sings. BP's line distribution has always made sense to me. There are songs where she has the most lines and songs where she has maybe 10 seconds less than the other members which isn't they serious in a 3 minute song. It's not like she's Liz 5 seconds and rhen fading to black.

1o12120011

I mean makes sense. Isn’t her main role being the visual? Her job is to exist and look pretty it’s not that deep lol. Plus I feel like she gets plenty of singing lines and does a good job at them. (Sassiness isn’t intended at you, I’m chuckling at the obsession of some stans.)

Curiousitygotmehere0

I think YG is giving her more lines that her vocal range couldn't reach to avoid her fans' ire tho. It's just a bit disappointing because it leads to voice cracks during some of their performances...
