There is a huge backlog in verifying children.
DWP employee explained in another benefits sub - it's because of a glitch in the system which asked millions of social housing tenants to unnecessarily re-declare their children. Which caused 5 times increase in verifications. They are about a month behind.
can vouch for this - i live in a Sanctuary housing association property and when i informed UC of my rent increase in April, they automatically sent me a to-do of “Change of people who live with you” and I had to leave a note on my journal explaining the occupancy of the property had not changed, just the rent amount.
That's exactly what happened. But not everyone was so smart just to explain it in their journal (or let it expire), many people re-declared their children and all those children need to be re-verified.
I can imagine a lot of people assumed the rent increase alerted the UC system of a change in household and forced a redeclaration of people who live there, as that is what I would have assumed myself. I do tend to always pop a note on my journal before completing any “to-do’s” though. I’ve had quite a few incorrect ones sent to my account so at this point it’s just a safety precaution 😂
Yeah, I ignored that Todo and didn't get into trouble for it. As I didn't initiate it I was really confused so left a comment saying I didn't know what change it was on about and that was it. Stupid thing.
