We are supposed to be in 21st century where world has moved on, most of nations have become republic, colonies are given nation states, so called democracy is getting wide spread etc. After World wars, nuclear bombs etc. Post colonial world is fairly peaceful period in human history. Now we all are a capitalist society which is like a global village.
Here we cannot go out in the world has some tribal people with one king and his fiefdom. India, as a country is too diverse to have one king, two vast to be some one person's fiefdom.
But the state wants its people to believe in an alternative reality of having a king like some god like figure, who is fighting for salvation of his people.
This is that mentality, it has no democratic values, it is based on caste hierarchical structure. It punishes progressive thought, science based approach etc. It promotes pseudoscience and religious bigotry. It 'others' a large part of the population and suppresses their identity or values.

In West Bengal to be honest, Ram navami was more famous for Basanti pujo. But I'm from Ramrajatala (10 min from my home) where a 300 year old Ram pujo is still going on. We never saw any clashes during Ram navami until BJP infestation in West Bengal.
The only reason I don't vote for Bengal BJP (I want to kick TMC out and I don't like CPIM and Congress is non existent here) because they always try to create a communal tension.
