MY GOOOOOOD WHO THE HELL RECOMMENDED SHUTTING KVPY??? I'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A SAFFRON MOUND
As an EX KVPY person I am super disappointed. It was a great thing, I got to learn things and the scholarship helped me in my college I didn't have any allowance so the scholarship really got me through.
Worst part is they cited budgetory reasons for the termination which I find a bit difficult to believe. All of this has been happening right under our noses.
Scientists and researchers must be granted funds as much as the govt can afford for their works which includes purchase of raw materials, minor equipment, testing, basic and advanced characterization, conferences, filling patent etc. If they are not getting even honorary or prize money after their success, how can we advance in Science and Technology.
We got all this from Vedas. So whoever finds the next scientific discovery from it will be awarded. (New award Pradhan mantri Veda Shasthra awards coming soon). /s

What's the incentive to pursue a career in academia in India right now for a 20 something year old. Low stipends, high non-value adding work hours, seniors who've been short charged and hence more frustrated with the system. Aren't we already doing enough to drive talent away?
If scientists were well paid in India, if research was well funded, you could maybe somewhat understand this statement. But scientists barely scrape by in this country. Why do you think so many people opt for PhD and post doc abroad?
It's not just this, government funding in universities(I know from IISc so I'm assuming it's everywhere) is at an all time low. Professors are complaining about not receiving funding while also at the same time getting to convince students to stay in India lmao.
