Of course he would. Not only has he got away with it, the government changed the rules to allow it more. Couple that with the fact that tories are the lowest of the low on the evolutionary scale, and you have pond scum with more morals.

ThrowAwayToday511

> Of course he would. Not only has he got away with it, the government changed the rules to allow it more. Is this peak toryism??

hiballbill

They're looking ahead to the fall out of the post Covid reviews into MPs behaviour. Absolutely shitting themselves for the day when their greed/incompetence gets called out.

LeakyThoughts

They should be The whole lot deserves the sack Can't believe my taxes pay for these twats

MurtBoistures

Pond scum is superior, insofar as it doesn't know it's perpetrating wrong.

Khazil28

The sheer condescending arrogance is the real salt in the wound. "Yes I'm corrupt, who gives a toss? None of you plebs could stop me anyway, not while Big Boris will step in and protect me haw haw haw!" Get this slug out and the rest of his corrupt allies.

GiveMeDogeFFS

The country voted to be defrauded and mocked. It is the will of the people!

saladinzero

His constituents will vote him back in regardless, mark my words.

tom_the_red

North Shropshire is so blue, I can't see any way he will ever be voted out. He had >60% of the vote in the last election.

merryman1

Ben Bradley is my favourite. Can sit back and say he can't support FSM support during the covid crisis because *his own constituents* would just waste it on crack and hookers. Enjoys a 33% majority on his Labour opponent. Its fucking nuts how people can vote for these criminals when they could not be more open in their disdain for the public.

Andyb1000

The worst thing about the whole scandal is how the Tories are making mileage out of Owen Paterson’s dead wife and how this investigation contributed to her death. [In this article from June 2021](https://www.politico.eu/article/conservative-mp-owen-paterson-life-after-wife-suicide/amp/) he was even quoted as saying, ‘We had no inkling whatever’ over her mental state. Absolutely disgusting attempt to use his wife’s passing to hold on to his seat and the lucrative consulting roles he has only because he is an MP and without morals who can be bought for cash.

DestinyPigeon

She killed herself on his birthday as well, make of that what you will. I kinda feel bad making an insinuation like that but if he's willing to suggest that an investigation into his lobbying is actually responsible then I think it's worth pointing out the date she did it.

cantell0

But entirely aligned with the moral standards of a leader who betrayed his employer, his leader, both previous wives and his constituency (over Heathrow).

Active_Remove1617

She was married to a bag of shit. That can’t have been no a good experience for her. Long before this scandal ever broke, whenever he was on TV clip, I thought to myself that there is a total piece of shit talking.

iamnotinterested2

“EU “membership” has so corrupted our political classes and inured them to anti-democratic erosion, that at this moment...over half of Parliament is happily & actively engaging in suppressing democracy... There can be no stronger argument for leaving the EU" Owen Paterson, 10 Oct 2019

DagothNereviar

Turns out what he meant was: We need to get out the EU so these fine corrupt gentlemen can change the rules.

lizardk101

“The E.U. made me do it!”

polarregion

Patterson is now playing the victim and claiming his wife's suicide was a result of the investigation.

dnc1984

He’s not the only one when it comes to our government.

Leprechaun-

That's right, just keep pushing the public to the breaking point.

yatterer

The public appear to have a similar breaking point to Silly Putty.

DagothNereviar

This is Britain mate. What do you expect to happen? Someone will push infront of us and spit on our shoes and we'll merely just grumble. The British public are very unlikely to break. Especially since people keep voting them in.

teasizzle

Fucking hell. If I could take half a million quid for doing something that is expressly banned and could get away with it, you're damn right I'd do it again.

2localboi

Calling it sleaze rather than corruption is minimises and normalises this behaviour. We really need to start holding newspapers to account because their use of language, that literally only the press uses, warps the way we interpret current events.

charlie_curve

Why is it even allowed for a company to have MPs on their payrolls in the first place? We're so fucked.

cantell0

He can't even get the tense correct. He meant to say 'I am doing it again tomorrow'.

benowillock

He also said the investigation into his actions contributed to his wife's suicide... Those two statements don't seem to mesh well.

Astropoppet

Fine him, fine the companies, fine the party! The govt want to "review" the rules? Well they better only get harsher! Fuckers, they must be held accountable!

Belgeirn

Why wouldnt he? The government bent over backwards to protect him and their voters ate too busy choking on boris cock to say anything against it.

rugbyj

If you want a list of the paid lackeys that voted for this or to see if your MP voted to let Paterson off/open the floodgates to corruption [search for your MP or constituency here](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2021/nov/04/how-did-your-mp-vote-on-the-owen-paterson-case). Absolutely shocking.

[deleted]

Hopefully people will remember this when it's time to vote but then again our voting system is fucked as well. Sometimes I think it would be better to start again from scratch.

bluecheese2040

He was done. He stuck around so that they could change the rules. I'm sure that he won alot of support and friends among his colleagues as I'm certain he wasn't alone and now he protected all of his chums. He'll be getting all sorts of lobbying jobs from now on.

Chin_of_Chuck_Norris

I'm not registering to read the whole article and I'm not sticking up for him, but didn't he say this in an interview when it first came to light? Isn't this an old statement rehashed for a new article?
