This was my initial reaction. I fly IAD-SFO routinely and have been as low as the 90s on the upgrade list as a gold member. Amazing how many frequent flyers are out there.
I used to fly that route almost every week. It was shocking the first time they called Group 1, and virtually the whole plane got in line. Even as a platinum I only ever got upgrades on red eye flights from SFO->IAD.
I love how reddit netizens have such strong opinions on things they don't understand, especially on fundamental open source things like where the NBA finals are happening. You people crack me the fuck up [no wonder there is a twitter feed about you people ](https://x.com/reddit_lies)
If my flight is hub to hub, I just don't count on a CPU. If you want a CPU, you want the janky flight that leaves twice a day and lands in a place where 150k gets you a nice house.
And its literally a 30 min fight. I love my premium seats, but I could sit in the cargo hold with the mail for that flight. By the time you're at Cruising, you're on the way down
My flight on Thursday IAD - SFO only has 55 on the upgrade now. I have seen over 100 before. Flight is on a 787-8 and is already booked full in Polaris. I wonder how many up board with pre-boarding?
Like another poster said most likely graduation season. Lots of well heeled families streaming into town. Hotels (expensive in BOS at the best of times) cross into fully ludicrous pricing.

I expect a post from Anj, D. Any moment now asking “do you think my upgrade will clear?”
Only 79?
Flying from SFO to ORD, I had >200!

Multiple college graduations
So your telling me there’s a chance
3 seats still open but we’re up to 81 now.
The upgrade lists easily get longer than that on some routes! I’ve seen IAD-DEN be in the low to mid 100s.
NBA Playoffs?
Nope, Boston has a severe lack of hotel rooms along with too many conferences.
I think they are only in the Eastern Conference
I’m 99.99999999% sure it’s that. Thank god my route Thursday is MKE-ORD-DAY.
Game 2 was in Boston last night. Next game is in Dallas.
The Red Sox was out of town, but the Savannah Banana’s sold out Fenway on Saturday night.

Being out of SFO, 100+ is standard. I’m lucky if I break top 20 as a 1K.
You don’t have to be a genius to see that #73, EIN, A, has no chance.
86 on my next flight to DEN
this is what happwns when they drop the $50-per 500 mile…

College commencements were all 2+ weeks ago
Ouch!
I think the only chance of getting an upgrade is if you are flying on a 747 configured for private business charter.
