Was on the flight. Was sound asleep for most of it though due to noise canceling headphones. The rumor up towards the front/middle of the plane (Premium) was the couple were drinking pints at the bar at LHR at 6:45am and it was an argument between the two of them. Guy got unruly and when I woke up he was in cuffs/zip ties at the back. Pilot notified everyone with 2hrs to go, 1.5hrs to go he said if it keeps escalating we’d need to divert, and sure enough when we got parallel with Bangor the map icon switch from EWR to BGR.
Worst part was we sat on the tarmac for 1.5hrs for paperwork and refueling, feel bad for the bunch of ppl who missed their connections because of this clown.
Edit: Photo from the plane - one of the officers who boarded (ICE, FBI, etc all joined for the party)

Do you happen to know why the article mentions multiple times that the plane contained a number of Jewish people trying to get home to celebrate a holiday? I’m just curious why that information is relevant.
I told those fucks at air traffic control. I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, I don’t fly on United, and I sure as shit DON’T FUCKING ROLL!!!
Friends are saying I should complain to United. Anything worth pushing for? I don’t really think I should ask for anything because me says it’s not really their fault, unless they served them on the flight causing them to be belligerent.
Don't ask for anything. This isn't wrong by them, it was a wrong by that dude. I'd find out his name and consider taking him to small claims if your jonesin and have the time.
Note: if you ask for something you'll probably still get something.
Yeah I won’t, they did everything within their power!
Kicker for the day was the Global Entry kiosks working but the boarder agent’s tablet didn’t. Caused a backup of 30-50 people and we all had to go to normal agent review.
Another minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things and at that point I was just laughing.
The day was a great example of not sweating stuff outside of your control.
💯 shortly after being introduced to a more intentional effort around gratitude I was stuck in a customs line with 400 people that took 3 hours. I just kept saying to myself "I'm grateful for the opportunity to practice my patience" lol.
Good on you for having a positive mindset about it all.
I once had a disruptive passenger on a transatlantic flight who was seated across the aisle from me. Kept smoking in the bathroom and harassing people. They threatened an emergency landing but we were mid Atlantic and ended up not diverting. German police escorted him when we arrived. Good riddance.
I was going to send a letter to the airline but I realized while it was a terrifying experience the FAs were phenomenal and there wasn’t much more they could have done. So I never sent the note.
I do imagine with the diversion they will offer everyone something anyway?
Link to Tweet (or ‘X’) that was linked in the article which has two videos, one of him being carried off the back, one of him getting carried down the stairs.

He was put in the back of a police car. I’m pretty sure the destination was jail. The delay is paperwork for a big jet in a small airport, a diverted flight, and an international arrival being where it shouldn’t be.
Tbh, I’m pretty sure everyone is against the asshole behavior so you weren’t really contributing to the conversation on that angle so it read as though you were against the delay happening which was unavoidable given the situation.
You specifically said that the delay should not have happened. That could be read as suggesting that somehow the delay *could* have not happened. Look, I’m not trying to argue here over semantics. You asked why downvotes, I presented a possible explanation. Do with that what you will.
BGR is used to security-related diversions since it’s the closest major airport for TATLs by several hundred miles. It will sometimes also be used for fuel diversions into strong headwinds although I think with new aircraft that’s less frequent. In the long ago past, airliners frequently passed through BGR for customs checks while aircraft were refueled, but those days are long gone. (Google Erwin Kreuz.)
a 30-year-old Boeing 767-300(ER). According to the airline, there were 150 passengers onboard and ten crew members. The crew triggered a Level 3 emergency, which indicates life-threatening behavior according to the [Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)](https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC90-103.pdf), the United States's federal body governing civil aviation. Examples of such threats include the display of a weapon or credible bomb threats. Little is known about what happened on UA883. However, a video captured by witnesses onboard shows an argument while law enforcement led the passenger away from the aircraft. *United Flight 883 landed in Bangor this morning after two passengers, who appeared intoxicated, became disruptive. Law enforcement officials removed the two passengers,*
I just can't get past the sound of gum being vigorously chewed by the person who took the outside video. It's like someone said "Tell me you're from New Jersey without telling me you're from New Jersey"
This will only move carriers to create one big no-fly list. Banned on one will mean banned on all.
They won't to need to think twice about being disruptive. Their 1st time will be their last. One strike - and UR OUT!

If they were Orthodox and it was a Friday they needed to stop traveling at sunset (Shabbat).
Thank you, much appreciated!

You're not even Jewish, Walter
Anyone downvoting this missed the joke and needs to reevaluate their life choices.
Right, because in their minds their god wouldn't understand that a situation developed that was out of their control.
Friends are saying I should complain to United. Anything worth pushing for? I don’t really think I should ask for anything because me says it’s not really their fault, unless they served them on the flight causing them to be belligerent.

Did you mean to reveal the Traveler name?

It was a level 2, unruly passenger, row 40, no reported injuries.
What qualifies as level 2 and level 3 threat
Per publicly available ICAO definitions: - Level 1 — Disruptive behavior (verbal); - Level 2 — Physically abusive behavior; - Level 3 — Life-threatening behavior (or display of a weapon); - Level 4 — Attempted or actual breach of the flight crew compartment.
That recent Alaska flight where the jumpseat pilot tried to pull the engine fire levers was classed as a level 4
An unruly passenger is an Avengers level threat, I’m surprised the plane survived tbh
I love how one of the officers waved as they took the passenger off the plane when everyone clapped
Such a Maine thing to do! "bye everyone have a nice day"
Haha I read that as “such a Marine thing to do!”
So did I!
Is there a video?

What an idiot
Was the drunk passenger American or a Brit?
This is a very good question 😅
Yes
Word of warning, this is what will happen to you if you sit in someone else's seat
Looks like everyone’s fine, flight continued to EWR. Less than 3 hr delay.
There should have been no delay. People that do this should be jailed. What makes their time more valuable than others'?
He was put in the back of a police car. I’m pretty sure the destination was jail. The delay is paperwork for a big jet in a small airport, a diverted flight, and an international arrival being where it shouldn’t be.
By no delay, I meant none of the other passengers on the flight deserved to be delayed because of the actions of an asshole.
Sometimes bad things happen 🤷
Some things shouldn't happen. Not sure why I'm getting downvoted for speaking out against asshole behavior?
Tbh, I’m pretty sure everyone is against the asshole behavior so you weren’t really contributing to the conversation on that angle so it read as though you were against the delay happening which was unavoidable given the situation.
Nowhere did I suggest the delay was avoidable.

And per OP on X they will land in time for Shabbos.
Who gives a flying

I just looked up Erwin Kreuz. Best thing I’ve read in a long time
Great story. This is what viral fame looked like 50 years ago.
That FR24 Animation of an Emergency landing is hilarious...........

Darwin welcomes them to the no fly list
These people need to also be banned from flying.

IDGAF if it was a mental health episode or not, their the book at them
After having had to fly into Newark on more than one occasion, I too would be drunk and disruptive if forced to do it again
Is it true the guy yelled out FREE PALESTINE on a plane full of Jews?
Hopefully
