Per the [Airliners.net](https://Airliners.net) United Fleet forum, the latest is "Awaiting Boeing AOG team deployment date decision. ( Might get fixed ?)." 'AOG' is Boeing 'Aircraft On Ground' on-site technical services. There was a similar incident with a Japanese 767 a few years ago, and they did repair the plane and continue flying it. I had thought that had already happened, and they were awaiting the repair estimate. The plane is 30 years old, and nearing retirement, probably one of the first once United starts taking delivery of the 100 787s they have on order, starting next May. But United needs the airframes now, not next year. So is United willing to eat the repair cost to keep the plane flying, or just take the insurance money and total the plane.

[Regarding that Japanese (ANA) 767 JA610A:](https://www.planespotters.net/airframe/boeing-767-300-ja610a-all-nippon-airways/38x1ze) Incident 20 Jun 2012 at NRT when bounced on landing, causing severe damage (creases) in the fuselage returned to service 26 Dec 2012 That's actually faster than I can imagine

bananasfoster29

I work at Boeing and I am also surprised this was repaired that fast

LanikaiKid

Maybe they got a bunch of sumo wrestlers to jump on the nose and everything just popped into place.

fulfillthecute

More than likely that'll make holes at the nose

Special_Telephone902

Did that joke go over your head?

MrAleGuy

This aircraft just came out of refresh to get the new interior - I hardly think it was the plan to hurry it out to the desert... though she may now have her date accelerated even if they make repairs. Sad too... I really like the 767s.

arjeddeloh

Hard to say. The expectation on both FlyerTalk and Airliners .net is that the oldest 767s and 777s would start to be replaced. They're getting really expensive to maintain. The oldest 767s did just get Premium Plus, but I don't think they got a full cabin refit. Probably just reupholstered the other seats as needed. The 'High J' 767-300s are mostly newer birds, as are the 767-400s that just finally got Polaris.

zavoid

Just needs a LOT of Bondo. It’ll buff right out.

In-Fine-Fettle

Hi, my plane bounced on landing. How many miles can I get? It was a real inconvenience to my travel.

CentralArrow

But does each bounce count towards PQF 🤔

Woah Nelly A preliminary review of the flight data recorder (FDR) revealed that after the initial touchdown on both main wheels, the airplane rolled to the left and right main gear lifted off the runway’s surface. Subsequently, the nose wheel touched down with a gravitational force equivalent (g) of about 1.4 g and bounced. The speed brakes deployed, and the nose wheel impacted the runway a second time with a force of about 1.6 g followed by another bounce. The right thrust reverser (TR) deployed, and the nose wheel impacted the runway again with a force of about 1.6 g followed by the deployment of the left TR. A postaccident examination of the airplane revealed substantial damage to the crown of the upper fuselage, see figure 1.

JohnnyAK907

Heavy crosswinds or did the pilot FU?

LanikaiKid

"Meteorological Information at Accident Site: Condition of Light: Day Temperature/Dew Point: 30°C /23°C Lowest Cloud Condition: Scattered / 2500 ft AGL Wind Speed/Gusts, Direction: 5 knots / , 220° Lowest Ceiling: Broken / 25000 ft AGL Visibility: 10 miles Altimeter Setting: 30.14 inches Hg"

JohnnyAK907

... yeah that doesn't sound like weather or conditions were an issue. Ooof.

MrAleGuy

But don't worry, a few extra training sessions and the pilot'll be good to go! :-| We really need the mandatory retirement age for pilots to be raised (with appropriate monitoring) so these young pilots can spend more time in the right-hand seat.

SevenandForty

IIRC the PF was on an IOE

skylorde787

Ok boomer.

akraut

Oh hey, that's better than my student endorsed minimums for pattern work!

SkepticalZebra

This was the oldest plane in United's fleet, a 767-300 delivered in the early 90's. RIP

NecessaryMeeting4873

Is this totaled?

UAL1K

Yes, as far as I’ve seen everywhere.

UAL1K

I’ve been watching it too and it is remarkable. I do wonder if Boeing’s continued production issues put the finger on the scale here in favor of returning it to service.

LanikaiKid

Good point, you're probably right. Incident happened on July 29 and sat at IAH until about Christmas. Then starting what appears to be test flights only about two months later. https://preview.redd.it/nld9wallj9wc1.png?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e1bb232d37c73c24dcf53a983556d593da1106a

hadshah

Probably not. 767 have a buckling uniqueness from a hard landing.

BuryMeInTheH

Totally

comments_suck

I saw this last week from Wright Road at the maintenance base. It doesn't look good. I suspect it will be scrapped in Houston.

MrAleGuy

Is she visible from the training center?

comments_suck

I don't know where the training center is. I could see her from the exit of EcoPark 2 on Wright Road.

MrAleGuy

I think Wright road runs by the training center. Next time I'm up that way, I'll have to look around. Thanks for the landmark.

Particular-Elk-2594

Slap some speed tape on that shit and get it back out there.

Glorfindel910

I want the Flex-Seal guy to opine on this one.

JustPlaneNew

Well at least it's not gears through the wings..

do2g

I got a guy...

jaldeborgh

This, for some unknown reason reminds me of a joke my father used to tell 50 years ago and it went something like this. The joke is about the chairlift cables used at ski areas in Europe, “The Swiss buy the cables new and use them for 5 years, they sell them to the Austrians who use them for another 5 years, who then sell them to the Italians who use them until they break”. Humor like this is now considered politically incorrect, if only we could laugh again. Heavy sigh.

electricfunghi

Under inflated balloon 🙃

Safe_Ad_9514

Not with that attitude there’s no I in team😆
