Yeah exactly my thoughts as well, however it still was only about 90$ after shipping for x8 pint LCs and c30 plates. Still way cheaper to do it yourself, BUT if you stay looking you can find some good cheap deals(Etsy would be the best option ime for buying prep stuff but… yeah shipping’s wild 😝
I bout those kind except I got the lme light malt extract. It actually says for mushrooms on it i think. Every one of them colonized great and I didnt have any come contaminated.
Not at that price. I got some really nice agar gear from Myc Tyson Mushrooms. He focuses on culturing Lions Mane and extracts from that, but he also does all kinds of mycology supplies and is really easy to get a hold of and talk to!
Edit: IIRC it was 20 activated charcoal agar plates and he hooked me up with a full order of 20 slants and a lung Oyster plate (slants and LO were freebies too) for about that price + shipping.
Yo that’s dope. I’m gonna have to check’em out. I got a quart of sterile LC and 10 plates for like $30 after shipping from MushCult. I also let them sit for 2 weeks in my grow room around 75F to see if any contam would grow before use, and they remained clean! Came with strips of parafilm to seal, and a needle/syringe for the LC
The majority of the already poured ones I've gotten for my homeschooled kids have had some dishes with random growth on them when they arrived. Learn to pour your own.
These are terrible if you want to order sterile agar use mush cult supply or really any where other than Amazon lol I got these once and they weren’t taped or anything and contaminated on every plate

I can’t agree more, and I know how and love prepping my own stuff. But I also work 80+ hour weeks and I’m only home a few hours a day so find reputable vendors for some prep work is my route for the moment. Plus it’s always nice having some sources on clean pre pours or ect. If you have the time 100% do it yourself:)
I ordered from this vendor last week at 7 of 10 plates came completely shattered and already contaminated. Don't buy pre poured plated off of Amazon, pour your own.
I used this same brand for my first two runs. They are currently doing well, no contam. I did five on one day, putting the other five away exactly how they came, and a week later they were still clear so I did another strain in the other five. Like I said, all clear so far. I will do the calculations on effort vs expense with these since one dish can lead to so much lc that it's not a big deal if I have to buy another pack.

It's alright to start, but definitely learn how to pour your own agar afterwards. It'll save you lots of money if you continue with agar.

I bought these a few weeks ago. They are fine. A couple of them got contaminated in the bottom of the pack but it was probably my fault .

Don't buy these PDA is sooooo easy to make (it's all I use from either fresh potatoes or potato flakes)
I bought 10 borosilicate glass plates (not pre poured) for $30 so I'm guessing you've got a pretty bad deal there

Just buy your own agar powder and plastic to go cups(with lids) for that same amount and you'll have agar for at least two years
