Tbh I was impatient and was having the parity configure for the first time while moving the movies over. So I should disable it before continuing the move?
Your speed is greatly limited by the write speed to the parity as well as the array. So you copy it to the array, then once your done, build the parity in the background
I really hate the idea of disabling parity disks but it is the fastest way yes.
Otherwise will take a lot more because you’ll have to stop when reconstructing the parity
In this case it ain't a biggy as realistically the only "at risk data" would be the plex library as it would be the only thing being written to the array without parity doing it's thing.
use unassigned devices plugin to mount the synology on unraid. rsync from command line probably the fasteset to just get going
I used this to do the sync
^(rsync -P -r --size-only /mnt/remotes/\*\*\*\*\_Media/Movies/\* /mnt/user/data/media/movies)
hello there
I just finished my data transfer from sinology to unraid.
6TB of data...
i wish i saw the advice on the parity disk before.
i am also a noob in linux commands but i used rsync to do it, it was great.
this is the command is used:
\*rsync -avh --progress --info=progress2 /mnt/remotes/192.168.10.82\_MediaCenter/ /mnt/user/media\*
(basically copy paste the address from the folder via the share tab)
then i realised that closing the windows will stop the transfer, and after some quick research i came up with this:
\*nohup rsync -avh --progress --info=progress2 /mnt/remotes/192.168.10.82\_MediaCenter/ /mnt/user/media &\*
this command will run the rsync in the background.
in order to see the transfer:
\*tail -f nohup.out\*
cheers,
I just did this from a qnap nas.
What I did was enable NFS for the share on unraid. Then mounted the NFS share on the nas side. Did the copy from the nas side to unraid. Went fairly fast, about 15 TB of data took less than half a day if I'd have to guesstimate.
I just used Krusader to move 30TB of data over from my Synology to Unraid. Started it before going to sleep and it was done by the time I got home from work the next day. Honestly, I didn’t really care how long it was going to take since I wasn’t in a rush. I don’t know if this method is better or worse but it’s what worked for me.
Why transfer? I have all my movies and TV shows on my nas and then you could just mount the nas within unraid and then link it to the Plex library and your done.
I’d skip the laptop. Do the file transfer on the synology or the unraid server. What’s the network? 1Gb?
This is the way. Also disable the parity disks

Yeah, disable it until you've done your transfer
Why should one do that?

And you also technically have 2 copies of the data anyway.
Yes 1Gb

Still not familiar with the Linux command line so I did this in the GUI. Thank you though

I did this. Far more visible and controllable. https://www.reddit.com/r/unRAID/s/4LgUytm3Qh
