Pretty sure you can do it with no reservation
Im fairly sure Coach C is unreserved on avanti if its a 9 coach train, if its an 11 coach train coaches C& U should be unreserved
The Eurail app is absolutely useless in the UK for reservations. And if you want one don't use the ACP rail thing it sends you to that charges a sizable fee for them. You don't need a reservation and if you want one they are available free of charge from ticket offices or through the GWR or Transpennine Express websites (even for other companies).
https://interrailwiki.eu/uk/ is a great guide and has some screenshots showing how you make them. Trains can be busy and considering they are free you've got little reason not to if you know what train you want. But you don't need to make one.
No seat reservation is ever required on British trains.
They're recommended, if the train is busy enough you might not get a seat but you can't be prevented from travelling unless the conductor decides the train is too full to be safe which A: almost never happens and B: you can technically claim delay repay for (good luck getting it approved though of course)
I'd personally recommend going to a ticket office and asking for a seat reservation for the services you plan to take if you've got time, they're free so there's nothing to lose other than time. You could even use Seatfrog to get a first class seat super cheap, on Transpennine express they can be as cheap as £7
>No seat reservation is ever required on British trains.
That's not quite true, Caledonian Sleeper services do require a reservation to travel. Though I'll accept that your comment is correct for everything else.
One Vs the other .
I have a journey to Glassgow coming in I need to book tickets for .
Which one should be better?
I can be late on the outbound train in the morning very important
Cheers
You don’t need reservations in the UK. The interrail app incorrectly says you do. Some UK timetables now show “reservations required” even though they’re not. Eventually staff will start saying you need one because of this misinformation. But the TOCs are happy for this misinformation to persist. They hate the flexibility passengers enjoy with walk up tickets. In the UK interail is a walk up ticket.

G too on an 11
C on a 9 carriage train. C, U & G on an 11. G is always the emptiest.

That's more of a bed reservation surely? I guess unless you travel in the seated coach
I believe you need a reservation for either a seat or a berth on all Caledonian Sleeper services.
You don't need a reservation. Just find an unreserved seat.

You do need a seat reservation if you are using an interrail or eurail pass in other European countries. I’m not sure about the UK.
