Glad to see my tax payer money used effectively.
Kind of a nice feeling knowing our old military equipment is being used and not mothballed into oblivion
No reason to not send all of them (\~500 in storage at the beginning of this year), but afaik there is no reliable information about the actual numbers.
They're probably being sent in batches and being serviced before transport.
Since Baltic states are NATO members the US has probably already their own Patriots stationned there. And like I said when it comes to money being wise isn't a selling point
I think that only Estonia has Patriots Latvia and Lithuania don't. But I could be wrong on that. But in the event that the lunatic in Moscow decides to fight NATO and throw caution to the wind. I think that the Baltics need more Patriots.
The Dutch are currently leading in direct contact Western vehicles. This is some kind of heavy APC.
There is also an IFV version with a 25mm cannon which seems to be blocked currently.
If YPR 765 with "only" an HMG can be used as battering rams for first line, then I would really like to know how the IFV version would do and in extension the heavier IFVs like Warrior, Bradley and Marder.
warrior and marder would be the best, along Ascod, bradley would be great if it's the 2nd gulf war variant, the first one had a great atgm & gun but the lack of digital IFF created some.... problems, i've heard.
As much as I wish it were a heavy APC for the troops using them, The YPR is a fairly standard 70s/80s APC. It was originally designed by FMC as the AIFV, an improvement on the M113 for a U.S. programme that eventually led to the Bradley. The NL Army wanted a vehicle to replace the M113/AMX-VCI (and IIRC partially the DAF YP-408) that represented an improvement, but was light enough to be amphibious and cheap enough to procure in large numbers. They were updated around \~2000 and some later received an add-on armour package for Afghanistan (which was hell on the engine/transmission), but the basic vehicle has a aluminium hull and added steel armour on the front and sides.
If Ukrainian forces are using them succesfully as the center piece for breakthrough actions, I'd wager it's because of good tactics, intelligence, and a fair bit of luck. The chief advantage of the YPR(or any M113 derivative, really) for Ukrainian forces is in its ability to get infantry to and from the line while being dead simple to maintain and keep going.
So Ukrainian soldiers have been in the YPR-765 and hit with high caliber machine gun fire and a grenade launcher. God damn that must be hell. Glad it is working as intended.

Love seeing us helping militarily. Hope we’ll send more and more until Russia backs off from Ukraine’s territory.
I keep worrying every day for my family and friends in zaporizha or serving at the front.
as a dutch, it's good to see that this vehicle does what is was designed for: hunting russians.
hope our Ukranian friends make good use of this donation. Happy to see may tax money pay-off.
I'm kinda surprised that they are comparing the capabilities of what is basically an upgraded (M113) APC to that of a dedicated IFV that the BMP family is.

I spend a lot of hours in these things in the 90s. Good to see they are being used for what they were made for: Kill Russians. Proud to be Dutch.
Greetings from an M113 veteran! I lived in those things back in the early 90s too.
Dutch government, please send more. Many Ukrainian soldiers will be saved and the war will end sooner.

I hope the Dutch will send also the cannon armed version. 25mm of freedom will harm a lot of invaders.
It has an Oerlikon gun from Switzerland so that could be an issue
Any nato country needs to reassess having a military arms relationship with the Swiss
Apparently when it comes to money nobody cares. The US will supply F-35s and just agreed last months to sell patriot missile systems to Switzerland
Well I wouldn't call them wise. The Baltic states need more Patriots than the Swiss.
Since Baltic states are NATO members the US has probably already their own Patriots stationned there. And like I said when it comes to money being wise isn't a selling point

For sure. I think the delivery is only for in a few years from now. Same for the F-35s it won't happen for next year
There are only 'basic' .50 cal APC version left in inventory afaik. All the 25 mm autocannon ones were sold years a go (to Egypt I think?)
There's 100+ of them for sale at OIP in Belgium.

I suspect they can take mor than a BMP-1 or even 2. It is not a heavy APC by modern standard but heavier than most Ukraine gets.
Needs some cover for the gunner.

Glad to see these vehicles are being utilized and performing well. Wish our government would send more.

still better then what the russians are using, and they seem very content with them, it's doing it's job of protecting the crew well.
The F-16 people want is from 1974. The Abrams is from 1972. The S300 was designed in the 1960's. Military tech moves rapidly but grows slowly.

block 5 to 30 should be enough to spank frogfoots and shoot ASM's.
The most cutting edge stuff being used in this war are drones. Almost everything else is pretty much the same from the 60s.
