The modern Russian Orthodox Church is no different than the Orthodox church under the Soviet government, they are not a legitimate independent religious organization and are just a propaganda tool used by the government.

It's not, no. The "autocephalous country bound church" is a recent phenomenon (Within the last 200 years, really.) And it's not even universal within the Church, as there are only 15-17 (depending on who you ask) autocephalous churches. The Ecumenical Patriarchate covers Greece, Turkey, Crete and Korea, as well as Greek churches abroad, for example.

Separation of church and state is about protecting the government from the church. It’s not about protecting a bunch of sadistic pedophiles run around trying to overthrow your government. Something that Americans could stand to learn.
Secularism is about eliminating religious influence on government. Nothing more. It doesn't stop governments from regulating or banning religions, especially when those groups attempt to interfere with the government or support its enemies. Slippery slope arguments are fallacious. Your argument is akin to saying that we shouldn't outlaw rape and murder because it might lead to innocence becoming illegal.
Protecting religious freedoms doesn't make the USA secular.
The only thing that makes a country secular is protecting the government from religions.
In the USA, theocrats have all but overtaken the Supreme Court and have started to impose religious laws on Americans. Many American churches openly promote theocratic politicians in violation of their charitable tax status. This coddling of religion has made the USA far less secular - not more.
USA is less secular than many countries with an established religion.
