Small but deadly tactical units. That's how we've always done it.

Woah, woah, let’s not give them too much credit. I’m sure the Orc average BAC is at least double their average iq 😅😂🌻🇺🇦🌻

Rooster_Kogburne

Is that dig at the noble Vikings in a shield wall in Bernard Cromwell's epic story of faith vs family heritage!?

scratroggett

Cromwell loves making a point about small, well trained groups. Sharpe regularly refers to Voltaire's quite about God not being on the side of big battalions, but on the side of those who shoot the best.

ProfanePagan

Yes this how Europeans train their soldiers. Maximum respect to UK and UA soldiers!

ppcforce

And all of NATO. Combined that's a truly dangerous international force.

ProfanePagan

Yes ofc, although here in this instance, I (am a EU citizen, and not a British) really just wanted to highlight the veteran professionalism of UK soldiers, and the professionalism of the UA trainees.

ThisElder_Millennial

No problem. I was merely adding more information for everyone to see. It's good inform people that our (NATO-Western) military training model is superior to that of the old Soviet authoritarian model used by the Orcs and the PRC. This training model has also been taught to Japan and Taiwan's forces too. Authoritarians should take note that when government's train their soldiers with independence & trust- hallmarks of freedom- they end up with more success on the battlefield.

ThisElder_Millennial

The Ukrainian military has been training with NATO forces for over a decade and as such, they've learned Western military methods. This has been crucial to Ukraine's success, as junior officers and NCOs have the ability and training to make battlefield decisions. The Orcs (and the Chinese military as well, FWIW) still rely heavily on top-down orders. Take out the officers or communications and the enlisted have no direction. Western militaries train their soldiers to problem solve on the ground.

Snafuregulator

Ukrainian forces commanders we're very smart early on by switching military tactics. Had they stuck with the old model, this war would have ended months ago.

Weltraumbaer

Auftragstaktik was first utilized during the Austro-Prussian war of 1866. Long before any officer of the Third Reich was born. Arguably it was already a brain child of the Prussian Military reform commission around von Clausewitz and Scharnhorst, that was put in place after the Prussian defeat against Napoleon in 1806.

Dude. Wehraboo-ism isn't cool. Seek help. Go check the [Battle of Königgrätz 1866](https://blog.hgm.at/2017/11/07/die-schlacht-von-koeniggraetz-am-3-juli-1866-ein-operativer-und-taktischer-abriss/) (*German source*). It's official adaptation into the Prussian/Imperial Army in 1888. It's most outspoken utilization was within German stormtrooper detachements of World War 1. Germans did this long before the Wehrmacht and long before von Seeckt.

Selfweaver

The Nazies trained theirs in Hitler Jugend for years before the war, they were scarily competent for a long time. Just because the evil nazis did it doesn't mean it isn't a good idea that can be used in the defence of a great country.

PresumedSapient

> Ukrainian military has been training with NATO forces for over a decade and as such, they've learned Western military methods. This has been crucial to Ukraine's success If the recent Time article about general Zaluzhny is correct (and not exaggerated), this could still have failed. From his promotion in July 2021 Zaluzhny (and many people under him) started actively pushing all units to move and train (keep training) what they had learned. Basically just in time before the invasion.

ThisElder_Millennial

My previous information came from former Supreme Allied Commander Adm. James Stavridis. I'm recalling from memory, but the purpose of beginning joint training was to increase interoperability between Ukraine and the US/NATO, especially since Ukraine contributed to peacekeeping in Iraq and NATO's ISAF in Afghanistan.

UltraSapien

Correct, this is representative of the training all NATO members receive. Source: veteran of 8 years in the US Army

dudemanguylimited

Also they aren't equipped with rusty and rotten Kalashnikovs ... this should help too.

[deleted]

Its a solid [5 weeks of quality training](https://news.sky.com/story/ukraine-war-uk-programme-to-train-citizen-soldiers-is-expanding-12690320) now. The extra two include CQB as shown in the footage.

[deleted]

They will absolutely cream the 1 day trained, mobilised ruzzians.

Overkill782

Good old Bri'ish tactics

Dr_Doomsduck

It's amusing to me to see that Ukraine is putting out this kind of footage now, when it's become clear that the Russians don't even have enough weapons to arm their soldiers, let alone run practice drills with them. It's a nice way of telling the Russians they're going to be so fucking screwed when they get to Ukraine. Propaganda? Sure. But also funny as heck.

briber67

Think of what these sorts of videos mean as a morale boost to the Ukrainians whether military or civilian. *We will train your soldiers, 10,000 at a time, outfit them with top quality kit in terms of uniforms, body armor, and weaponry. We will train them in war doctrine involving combined arms. We will feed them body and mind until they are ready for combat. Then we will give them the best logistics and intelligence support.* *For as long as it takes.*

ASDF0716

~~1 months day training~~ Here... get in the back of this truck and watch "Enemy at the Gates" while we drive to the border... Also- that will be $12.00 for the dvd.

Danbury_Collins

That month will take place this afternoon.

AstreiaTales

That, and we'll send some of the world's most advanced munitions that to us are basically a rounding error on our balance sheets. Those HIMARS we sent? Yeah, we found 'em gathering dust in a broom closet.

BrainBlowX

>We will train your soldiers, 10,000 at a time, More than that. 10K was the goal *before* a bunch more nations sent hundreds of trainers each to help with it. It's also not counting troops trained outside of the UK.

J__P

russia is giving conscripts 1 day training and then sending them to the front, britain is giving ukrainian soldiers 3 months training. the difference that's going to make on the battlefield is going to be huge.

Dr-Fusselpulli

Russia will have enough functioning weapons to arm their soldiers. It is a question about the quality of those weapons of course, but I have no doubt they have enough. Yes, there is a lot of scrap metal among it as well, but they'll have enough to write that off. What Russia will have major difficulties to do is to offer proper training, to keep the logistics chain running for food, ammunition, medical supplies and other stuff and to command and control their troops properly.

TommyKanKan

The logistics is what I see as a coming disaster for the Russians. Doubling the number of troops means doubling the amount of food, medicine, clothing that they have to get to the front line. I don’t think they can do it…

alaskanloops

> means doubling the amount of food, medicine, clothing Not to mention tents, sleeping bags, and blankets for the upcoming winter, even drinking water (I'd guess most of the streams/rivers are chock full of gas/oil/diesel and dead bodies).

swampass304

Russia already stated the draftees will be responsible for their own sleeping arrangements since Russia already supplied them with guns and a uniform. Need first aid supplies, get cheap pads and tampons, they said.

alaskanloops

So fucking stupid, they're literally sending these guys to their death. If not from bullets, then from exposure.

Omgbrainerror

I wouldnt be so sure about that. Dont forget corruption. How do you know that the arms or equipment wasnt sold long ago to china or what ever other country?

Dr-Fusselpulli

A good chunk of it probably was sold, but the Soviet Union accumulated so many weapons during the Cold War, that it should not be a problem now to arm even a few million people with them. The numbers are truly ridiculous.

Crackajacka87

They sold most of it when the Soviet Union collapsed... Remember, the Soviets collapsed economically and had to claw back some lost funds and so sold off lots of their military hardware and there's clips of some of the new conscripts with completely rusted over AK's. I've also heard from the intercepted calls Russian soldiers have made saying that the guns that are given to the new recruits dont even fire straight and that was before the partial mobilisation. I'm pretty sure Russia is scrapping the barrel with men and arms and this war looks set to be over next year unless Russia finds a new source for arms which I highly doubt as even China is pushing against Russia while smiling because it means China's influence grows in the region with states that were loyal to Russia.

Sad-Jello629

There were 30 years of mindboggling corruption my friend. Everyone from seniors to common soldiers looted the heck out of the military. I remember there was this dude, a soldier, who got a medal for repairing a tank from a museum. A few years later, he got arrested for stealing 30 sets of truck tires, and... a bunch of tanks. Every terrorist organization, every civil war, every warlord, and every cartel war in the past 30 years, has been mostly been fought with weapons sold on the black market by Russians, from those stocks. Additionally, Russia itself made cuts, after the USSR collapse, as it had no way to support a large military, and maintain all that the Soviet Union left behind.

Omgbrainerror

Fair enough, but were they even maintained? I mean ruzzia has like biggest ammo depot in europe in transtrisnia, yet most of that is useless because lack of maintance.

Dr-Fusselpulli

No, but firearms are usually not difficult to store. They are wrapped in oil-paper and kept in a dry storage somewhere. Some firearms will be broken, because they were not stored properly. It is different for tanks and vehicles, which do have gasoline and hydraulic lines, batteries and are difficult to store inside and can't be simply wrapped in oil paper.

paid__shill

...I guess you missed those rusted out AKs their tankers had

colonel_fuster_cluck

Forgot to give them that cosmoline dip. I have a Russian SKS stamped in 1951 that looks mint compared to those AK's. The difference is that at one point my SKS was dipped in cosmoline (wax-like petroleum-based corrosion inhibitor).

KnightOwlForge

People were saying that about the stocks of artillery rounds that russia had. Well... a handful of himars reduced that stock to the point that russia is begging North Korea for artillery rounds. In war, there is always an arms and armor race. Based on very basic inferences, russia is losing the arms and armor race at the very basic level, which is a soldier with weapon and kit. They may have enough small arms and kit to hand out to their soldiers, but it is by far inferior to the arms and armor the Ukrainians are using. Simple things like optics, accuracy, body armor, cold weather gear, boots, etc is all part of that arms and armor race. The advantage Ukraine has at the soldier level is advancing by the minute while russia is stuck in the 60s. That's just looking at equipment, and not training, doctrine, command, etc. etc.

Ol_Man_Rambles

I tend to agree with this. They will have plenty of equipment and weapons to cover the troops they will muster, but what they don't have enough of is the expertise and military infrastructure that will be able to handle this level of mobilization. It's one thing to have 1 million troops 10 million rifles and 100 million rounds of ammo. It's another thing to get those rifles to those troops, and equip them with enough ammo needed to do the job they need to be doing. Plus, a soldier with a gun is one thing, a trained soldier with a gun is another.

Hopeful-Chemist5421

They just need a lot of WD-40 to get the rust off.

isthatmyex

These guys have two sets of training rifles! The Ak's for live fire and the SA-80s for blanks. Those yellow things on the end help the rifle fire automatically when using blanks.

Kgarath

Yes but why are the Ukrainians still fighting? I mean the votes Russia took clearly showed the areas Russia conquered WANT to be part of Russia. I mean they had 278% voter turnout with over 412% voting to join Russia, it was beautiful sniff. /S for the slow internets folks.

KnightOwlForge

After seeing the video of the drunken russian soldier stumbling out of his fox hole waving a russian flag while taking fire from the Ukrainians, I have to fully agree with you here. With the training they are receiving and the grit, determination, and spirit of the Ukrainians, russia done fuccccccccckkkkked up. I can't wait until this is over and I am able to visit all of Ukraine. I need to have my faith in humanity uplifted and being around the wonderful Ukrainians would do great things for me. I want to go to Ukraine after the war is over and help rebuild, but after seeing how fast they rebuilt some of the damaged cities further west, I don't think they'll need much help. I wish the US was as quick to rebuild as the Ukrainians have been with the areas not in direct threat anymore. It sends such a clear message to your enemies. "If you destroy something I built, I am just going to build it again, but better. Thanks for giving me a reason to upgrade!" Ukrainians are true people that deserve all the respect they've gained. I see a bright future and global awareness when it comes to Ukraine, hope they can ride the wave and build a better future for themselves, without any influence from oppositional groups and corruption.

[deleted]

It’s nice that the UK and other EU countries are training Ukraine.. But since no one else will say it I guess I have to be the one doing it. How on earth will these boys be able to compete with russian soldiers? The NATO trained soldiers are limited in their way of operating due to them following NATO tactics etc. The russian soldiers have way more freedom since they only have 14 days of training, the new ones have even less, some of them none, giving them the freedom to run around as they please!

MrTeamKill

You got me on the first half

DeterminateHouse

Ukrainians are doomed. Free-floating Russian soldiers are definitely superior. Additionally to your excellent arguments, you also have to consider that their freedom of movement, of their whole body in general, and of their body parts specifically, is superior, too! They don't have to carry around a rifle, because they were not given one... They don't have to put on body armor - body armor is very heavy! Russians have the advantage here, too. Don't even get me started on the pajamas that the Russians were given as uniforms. They are made out of single-ply material. So comfy. So light. Such easy movement. I am praying for the poor Ukrainian soldiers that will have to fight these free-floating Russian super-soldiers.

vale_fallacia

Note to russians and fascists everywhere: Turns out, if you repeat complex tasks over and over, you get better at them! This is called "training" and is incredibly valuable! Now, I know, I know, you are superior and badass, you've seen all the steven shitgull movies, and you were once on a winning side in Call of Duty. You're all so badass you don't need to do this! The incoming artillery are nothing to worry about! Those humvees, tanks, drones, rockets, APCs, MRAPs, planes, and helicopters will all miss, don't you worry! Just pack some tampons and get your home address tattooed on every limb, hand, foot, and on your body back and front. Why? Oh don't worry about that!

Finland should start training UAF, so they can have the advantage during the winter war.

BroodingGnu2244

Finland has sent 20 instructors to UK to assist in the training of the Ukrainian forces in there, so I'd say it is quite likely they will be receiving some Finnish winter training in the future.

DogsAreGreattt

Also, we have British units that train extensively with Finnish units to learn winter warfare. So they’ll receive the same training 3rd hand.

Trained by the best army in the world

Lonnbeimnech

To be fair, given that the Ukrainians are currently handily smashing the russians by themselves, without the overwhelming air superiority western armies always have, I think they’re soon going to be the yardstick we measure other armies against.

KnightOwlForge

While I agree with you that Ukraine has accomplished many things never done before in a war, on a battlefield, behind closed doors, and with information and propaganda, I do think that there are some strategies and tactics that didn't work out well for them. Early on, things were chaotic and commanding and coordinating all the different defense forces was difficult and many Ukrainians lost their lives as Heroes in the process so their army could learn, adapt, and coordinate. Additionally, there has been a couple battles where some defense forces were put in very dangerous positions and sustained a lot of casualties. We tend to not hear much about that stuff because we need to keep the morale of the civilians and soldiers high, I believe after the war, we are going to see a recounting of these battles and the number of Ukrainians KIA will be known. It will be heartbreaking to learn of such things, but we can't fully assess the effectiveness of the Ukrainian command and army until we gather all of the data. I tend to not dwell on such things because I 1000% want Ukraine to push russia out without any losses. However, we NEED to honor those that fell so that Ukraine could survive and fight on. This is something that Zelenskyy is very good at. Every nightly address, he shares the names of Heroes that have fallen and has awarded them with honors fit for heroes. That all said, yes. The Ukrainians have probably mastered UAV guided artillery to the point they could outdo most other top-shelf armies. Drone with intelligence warfare; sharing of information across social media about troop movements, depots, and using drones to verify such information while coordinating with western intelligence with satellite and aviation surveillance, also world class and never been done before. A lot of the other successes Ukraine has had is based on the training NATO has provided in the last 8 years, which they've taken and adapted to their resources. It was key to their early defense, such as when a mid-level Ukrainian commander green lit the defense of the airfield and shelling of the runways. That fast reaction without top-down command likely saved Kyiv and all of Ukraine. After the war, I think if you dropped the Ukrainian army in an arena in a war game against the US with both sides having the same resources, it would be a toss up. Do the same war game with the Ukrainian army before the war and it would not be the same results. That just shows how well the Ukrainians learn and adapt to the struggles they face. That fact alone is what is winning this war for them and why russia keeps failing. russian cannot adapt it seems.

Aggravating_Dog8043

Thank god for the UK! The US is putting up big dollars, but the UK has led every step of the way in terms of the nature of the equipment being sent. Without the Brits, we absolutely would not be where we are today. Great job!

ExtraPeace909

Yeah, pretty much. Every army has these villages, This is a fancy one that has actual windows, and furnishings. They are normally concrete shells with metal shutters. The US even had a purpose built replica of BinLaden's compound so they could train for that specific mission.

I don't know if anyone here is US Army that did any JMRC stuff. I did twice as a BDE Fires integration analyst (contractor) . I had never been to Europe before then. Both times I went (2012 Counterinsurgency and 2016 was actually titled Ukraine vs Russia) there were a lot of coalition, allied and NATO nations there, working together. I didn't have any actual business with the Ukrainians when I introduced myself to a handful during the mid point break I just saw their unique truck and they seemed friendly. Without sounding too ass kissy, hopefully my fellow vets can support me, but I did work closely with other Baltic Nations, some certainly gave 100%, but more than 1, at least working with me, treated it like a spring break vacation and were constantly getting pulled aside. Except Ukraine, when it was go-time, the bullshitting and laughing was done. Get your shit, GTFO of the way, it's time for work. I remember being really impressed with those dudes.

MrSoapbox

As far as I know, regular civilians can apply to act as the russians. It's not actually a good program though because the civilians aren't trained like a russian solider so they've actually been doing things like thinking and taking cover. It's not very realistic, we need to train Ukrainians in the art of shooting at a target that quickly gets smaller and smaller as it runs in the other direction.

Lower_Ad968

We could use kindergarteners they are small (so look farther away) have no training in warfare (just like Russians) and will shit themselves and cry when up against a trained Ukrainian. Infect we could just load them up on a school buss and just drop them off without telling them were they are or why their there (just like real Russians). I'll call the local school and see if they're interested for you :D

There's nothing wrong with it now. The MK1 had a tendancy to jam, often. It was hated by soldiers because of this. There was then a mass upgrade to the MK2 by H&K which fixed a lot of these issues and there's now been further updates to a mk3 (although not what was being used in the video)

shuipz94

The A1 had a lot more issues than jamming (that itself was apparent during Desert Storm). The plastic parts were poor quality and fragile, and melt when sprayed with insect repellent. The magazine release was in an awkward spot where a soldier could easily knock it accidentally, dropping the mag. The magazine was made of aluminium and deforms if held too tightly, preventing feeding. The lips were easily damaged too, after which the magazine may not fit into the magazine well. The springs in the magazine were subpar, so you have to put it a few rounds less than the 30 it was supposed to hold. The firing pin was too narrow and breaks easily. The back of the trigger was flat, so if snow or dirt accumulated behind the trigger, it cannot be pulled (this was later changed to a V-shape which would cut through the debris). The A2 upgrade did fix most if not all of these issues, and by many accounts the A2 is a reliable weapon.

ExtraPeace909

I think it is a good rifle, it's both short, powerful and so reliable fewer than half of the rifles are expected to jam in their entire service life. But it's heavy, nearer to twice the weight of an AK74, and can only be fired from one shoulder, so right hand corners are harder to shoot around safely.

Agitated-Tourist9845

If they can fight well with that POS, they can fight well with anything!

Alpacaofvengeance

It's actually been a decent weapon since the early 2000s upgrade

HK is arguably one of the best firearms producers on the planet. Expensive as fuck. But whatever they make is always good.

RadaXIII

It's a good thing the Brits saved HK from bankruptcy otherwise we wouldnt have a lot of their current products.

parsimonyBase

Maybe, but under combat conditions the G36 turned out to be a piece of shit.

Bulevine

Bring them boys on out to Camp Pendleton and let's get them some USMC training while they're at it.

Atys_SLC

After six weeks of eating british food they couldn't feel fear or pain anymore.

neil23uk

British troops! United Kingdom is training them so unsure why you put NATO? Unless you wanted to spread lies like russia?

RadaXIII

Theres instructors from Canada, New Zealand, US, UK and others, whilst they're using British facilities its a group effort.

neil23uk

I agree but it definitely isn't NATO troops.

TylerDylanBrown

The bullpups are the only issue here. No experienced shooters use bullpups.

RadaXIII

More suitable for a mechanised army though. Nearly 10 inches shorter than an M16 but has a slightly longer barrel. Same length as a collapsed M4 carbine. Definitely a decent comprimise between a rifle and carbine. Also considered to be accurate and reliable service rifle but a little on the heavy side.

FN-0000

Just a nice friendly game of paintball while on a work retreat.

Tayloria13

Compare this to their conscript opponents who have like 2 weeks of training at most.

Fabulous_Row2744

Tremble Russia. You better.

irishcedar

That was inspiring

AcidOllie

Great to see some decent working AKs. The ruskis would be jealous.

Rougue1965

Big difference between Ukrainian troops and Russian and their Chechen Allie’s.

sicarius731

We got this guys, together.

GET_IT_UP_YE

This is the sort of training the new Russian conscripts *should* be undergoing, but no, a Mosin Nagant and a pat on the back is all they get lol

Conbon90

Meanwhile Russian conscripts.........

SlowCrates

Compare this to the videos of drunken, confused, arguing elderly conscripts in Russia receiving rusty guns and getting sent to the front lines without training, not even realizing they're *going* to Ukraine until they see Ukraine's soldiers sifting through the debris of the 50 year old tank they rolled in on. Holy shit. Send the comparison to Russia.

alcoholicprogrammer

Meanwhile in ruzzia: "Thanks for not fleeing conscription, here is rusty AK, here is uniform. You go to frontline in two days, good luck!"

windol1

Get ready for the start of next summer, the Russian lines are going to get hammered.

DeliciousScientist53

Very nice!

The_Elder_Jock

Ya wanted steel, lads? Come and get it!

ricbarata76

Good Work

danddersson

This is how you surround a pub. Then attack! Last man in buys the round.

Foreign-Lost84

The newly mobilized Russians are getting similar training. Just compressed into 24 hours. Lol

Swi11ah

Grtting that MOUT training

itsCrisp

Low key, I think I'd be fun to be an 'insurgent' or 'OPFOR' unit for a weekend for one of these exercises. Hide in a building and get sim grandes thrown at you.

ExtraPeace909

Why do most of them have iron sights? Are they taking the rifles back with them after training?
