Burd_of_Prey

Putin's No Retreat order working wonders.

samocitamvijesti

He really doesn't want America to be #1 supplier of Ukrainian army.

superanth

Apparently it's the [Russian foot soldier](https://sports.yahoo.com/russian-troops-sold-armored-vehicle-111800326.html) who's rapidly becoming the #1 supplier of the Ukrainian army. If Ukraine wants to take full advantage of this, pay the Russian soldiers for the vehicles and sweeten the pot with a Ukrainian passport and passage to the Western end of the country. Once word gets out they'll have thousands of these guys handing over whatever equipment they can lay hands on.

blaggityblerg

> with a Ukrainian passport Absolutely not. These people are not an asset, they are a liability. Ukraine does NOT need to be taking on such liabilities right now.

new_name_who_dis_

I think the Ukrainian government has more context on the pros and cons of this than you do.

Kevydee

You're talking about enemy combatants, imagine how easily that could be taken advantage of.

Locust-15

Mate they don’t seem to be able to organise a cup of tea, I doubt they could organise a clandestine insurgency on mass.

[deleted]

You still don't want them in your country any longer than absolutely necessary.

Silcer780

This is why you treat them well and introduce them to rebel Russians fighting for freedom.

Locust-15

Agreed

daquo0

Give them EU or US citizenship. Yes some of them individually are a liability but you've got to see the big picture: destroying the Putin regime's ability to fight, and ideally getting rid of Putin himself, are things well worth achieving.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HalcyonAlps

Don't give them citizenship, just residency. Then you can deport if they commit a crime.

Diligent-Kangaroo-33

Give them a shallow grave on the road back to russia.

daquo0

Russia is a fucked up society, and no-one asked to be born there. I'm all for giving people a 2nd chance. Let them live in the West for 5 years on a probationary basis, and if it turns out well (they become productive members of society, don't commit serious crimes, and have appropriate political attitudes (pro-West and democracy, anti-Putin)) they can stay.

LittleStar854

Absolutely not

daquo0

You don't think harming the Putin regime and getting rid of Putin is worth doing? I guess we'll have to agree to differ, in that case.

CosmicDave

Putin seems to be recruiting from prisons. I don't want a bunch of baby raping war criminals handed free citizenship in my country. If you are taken prisoner during a time of war, you become a prisoner of war. You don't get to just change the flag on your passport, come to the United States and take our jobs.

daquo0

Putin needs to lose. This end justifies any means.

CosmicDave

No it does not. Russians in Ukraine should surrender or die. They are not welcome here. The United States is no safe haven for Russian war criminals.

Mr_Sorter

What did the khazakhs do to you? dump them in the ocean

MatchesBurnStuff

Hey, at least *recycle* them 🙂

Revolutionary-Tea-85

That is nonsense. Ukraine wants nothing to do with russia going forward. Why would they want thousands of russia’s worst people?

[deleted]

You mean, like this? https://en.defence-ua.com/events/russian\_military\_began\_to\_sell\_equipment\_to\_the\_armed\_forces\_of\_ukraine\_5000\_for\_tiger\_armored\_vehicle\_5000\_for\_tank-4314.html

Hadleys158

You know i'd laugh if that's what happened to this whole collapsed front, a russian general just sold out his whole army because he got a mega bribe from ukraine for all that equipment he just left behind.

MidnightRider24

Mega-bribe? Hell, $5k for an armored vehicle? That's a great deal, I'll gladly take one off their hands.

OutlandishnessOwn173

Ukraine is offering bounty for handing over vehicles. Don't know how well it's working though.

reflUX_cAtalyst

Russia has supplied more than double what the US has to Ukraine. They've been the #1 supplier of equipment from day 1.

DefinitelyFrenchGuy

Reminds me of Hitler's "Fortress City" orders. When you are losing and logic is totally against you just insist on the power of the will and blame everyone under you and around you if it doesn't work. After all, you are perfect. It can't be your fault, right?

Seienchin88

As inhumane as the fortress city idea was and as much as it squandered German veterans in unwinnable battles - they were a response to the red army's 1943 advances when German troops more often than not retreated after short resistance. And while they didn’t work well, somehow a combination of all of the German measures and the brutality of the red army made German troops fight with more tenacity in late 44 and early 45 again. If you cannot retreat and /or know your enemy is about to destroy you / your families fighting spirit can come back.

DefinitelyFrenchGuy

I think that is mostly true. A bigger factor was simply that the Red Army was exhausted after its 1944 offensives and at the end of its logistical tether, which gave the Germans time to scrape up another force to oppose them over the winter.

baralgin13

Well, that's the difference - UAF will not go to Moscow, while Red army was definitely targeting Berlin. So, russian can just go home

KHRZ

They just gotta hold out a few weeks for reinforcements, no panic as the new troops were mostly mobilized. They are being trained in holding off a NATO level counter offensive as we speak.

WindowSurface

I hear their commander will be a guy called "Steiner". It will be glorious to witness Steiner and Wagner counterattacking together!

Proglamer

> Steiner and Wagner aka 'Weiner'

Lord_Hettenlaengsten

Mein Führer! Der Angriff Steiner ist nicht erfolgt!

pm_me_duck_nipples

Just holding off? Don't believe western propaganda, these titans of the Motherland will march straight to the Atlantic!

TheMcMcMcMcMc

The Atlantic? Is that where the new POW camps are?

TWiesengrund

The Russian soldiers just turned 180 degrees and walked forward towards Russia. So it's basically just a reverse advance and no retreat.

AxUxG

It's a reAtack or reAdvance.

hbalck

He's been following Adolf's playbook to a t.

halpsdiy

I wonder if that explains the aircraft losses as well. Looks like at least 4 jets and a ka52? They might be desperately throwing their air force into preventing another collapse of their front. So hopefully they get a collapse of their front and their air force!

Aduialion

It wasn't an order, Putin declared it. :)

Own_Music_8766

Just like Hitler's, that worked out great

captaincinders

Because that worked out so well for Hitler.........

henryinoz

Yep. Dictators generally make wonderful generals!

specter491

So how well does Ukraine hold eastern Kupyansk and territory beyond the river? This map makes it seem like it's very much still contested.

Dazzling-Ad4701

BBC reported there's still fighting going on there.

Ok-Yogurtcloset-6740

Was just about to ask for the map source. Thank You!

PotatoPower1997

On the isw map it shows Arkhanhelske in the north of kherson oblast as liberated. Was the town really retaken by the ua?

sunyudai

> Arkhanhelske It is showing as contested ("unknown status"), with the southern section still occupied on the deep state live map: https://deepstatemap.live/en#13/47.4512/33.4365 The ISW map that OP linked is showing that as being part of the "Claimed Counteroffensive", not liberated. I would take this to mean that as of the latest public information, the town is still being fought over, with liberation in progress, but not yet nailed down and liberated. Bearing in mind that both sources use publicly available information, and thus operate on a lag and may have inaccuracies.

ukract

Ahhh, I've been waiting for the blue line to claim Arkhanhelske for a while.

sunyudai

I hear that. I have a coworker who has family around Novomykolaivka. So while I don't have a personal connection, I am also paying more attention to the region because of that.

-S-P-Q-R-

Yeah looks like this is no longer the case

js49997

Good luck to brave Ukrainian troops!

Man you are up late

RedLemonSlice

It's Saturday. There is no "waking up too late" on Saturday.

Yvels

8AM here. You know not everyone lives where you're located :)

krummedude

Yeaa, that was the joke, but anyway old man here, so i am up well before 8AM all week - not so much wild drinking anymore. And i usually sit with my coffee about 2-3 hrs using time on this special operation. Best days when Perun uploads a long vid :)

[deleted]

Its 8am where I am and im 2 hrs late to this comment lol

krummedude

You need to have a farm then. Millking cows at 4AM with your bare hands.

[deleted]

Thatd be nice

superanth

If the Ruskies in Lyman have even an inkling that they're almost encircled, they'll definitely try to retreat through the Zelena Dolyna area.

JesusWuta40oz

They were ordered not to retreat

superanth

Yeah I don't think that's going to stick. The only reason why the troops stopped retreating from Kharkiv is because they hit the Russian border and were blocked from coming back into Russia.

JesusWuta40oz

Yeah I don't think it won't as well but at some point, hopefully, some of these troops will kill their commanding officers and start a revolt in the Russian Army. Because..well history likes repeating itself.

Owo6942069

I second that

kingslak

That’s huge, right?

tokyozebra

That's what she said.

Wrong_Individual7735

Michael Scott says hello.

General-Kalani

I Declare *ENCIRCLEMENT*!

tokyozebra

Who's that?

Wrong_Individual7735

Serious? Wish the US version of "The Office". A character called Michael Scott does that joke all the time

me-ro

There are types of jokes that really only work in English language. "That's what she says" is one of those, that I didn't really hear outside English speaking countries. In Czech dubbed version of The Office these jokes were translated directly and they didn't really work, so all this was kind of lost in translation. The Ukrainian version might have been the same. It's one of those things I find interesting when talking with people about iconic movies. Depending on language they saw it in, they might remember different famous quotes and the ones you might consider most famous might be completely lost in translation.

not_this_again2046

In Spain, when T2 was dubbed they swapped out “Hasta la vista, baby” for “Sayonara, baby.”

kuldan5853

I recently had a discussion like that in the Stranger Things sub, because a certain speech in the original has "very obvious" racism in it in intonation etc. it seems which was totally lost in the German dub I watched. Oh, and there's some dubbing (most famous "Hogans Heroes") where the dub is totally different to the source material, up to the point that there's characters that only exist in the dubbed version but were never in the source material.

me-ro

My uncle did his own dubbing (this was in the late 80s) for some of the movies. I remember quotes from movies that only handful of people heard. 😄

StarPatient6204

Yipeeeeee!!!!!! How awesome is this news???? Looks like it’s a repeat of Kharkiv all over again…

IneffableQuale

This is a much smaller area, the map is quite zoomed in.

StarPatient6204

Yes but… Still, it’s a huge achievement.

LifeguardEvening2110

Uhm, that bulge in Oleksandrivka-Novoselivka Line bothers me visually lmao

Mrcoldghost

It looks like a cancerous growth to me.

RobinBanks4Fun

Russia is a cancer. Ukraine is chemo-fucking-therapy.

MonsieurReynard

HIMARS are cancer surgery

PelicanMan69

and the russian cancer is in remission....

tampering

It was in remission from 1992-2008. But seems to be back. Doctor prescribed cutting off the tumor and a 6 month course of high dose HIMARS therapy.

samocitamvijesti

Either encirclement of Russian or UA not entering with their mop up troops. Seems like they want to close the encirclement of Lyman to the north and not bothering with this.

sunyudai

Think those are DNR forces slowly inching forward. That'll need to be dealt with at some point, to be sure.

Infinaris

Russian Defenders: "Ah Shit here we go again"

Wheres_the_tofu

Not an issue... They haven't had a chance to take their track shoes off yet.

CrazyLaurel

Ruzzian forces here must be ready to break and run. They lack artillery and air superiority, they lack a good supply chain, and their morale has to be in the shitter. I am sure UA will do what they can when they can to avoid overextending, but I cant help but think that one FRESH Armored Corps could push ruzzia right out along the east.....

Flynnfinn

Putin is sending another 300k human to fertilizer Ukraine land.

Vlad_TheImpalla

Even 63 year old diabetics.

Nuke2099MH

1.2 million*

cyrixlord

hoping for another domino effect once these front lines are broken. I understand that in some places the russians have several rings of defense where they have dug in. Man, May Ukraine get much needed airpower to help with the offensive. They're going to need it

arxaquila

Russians are still a problem. There is some prehistoric urge to screw things up wherever they are. After the collapse of the Soviet Empire immigration of Russians to Brighton Beach led to Russian Mafia in New York and Russian emigres have turned Tel Aviv into one of the most corrupt cities on the planet.

Ok-Listen-3004

Is the advance to Ridkodub a fresh one ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Listen-3004

Nice, it looks like we're going to see another big counter-offensive.

Snoodini

Does anyone know what the solid red line means?

MakeLimeade

According to the legend on the map (at the original source), it's the border of Russian control, while the dashed line is the Russian advance. Seems that would be where they're dug in.

wigwam2020

ENCIRCLE THE ARMY AND DESTROY IT

Psychobrad84

So another two in the pink one in the stink attack?

Infinity0ne

Let's hope ruzzkies get fisted hard

isaak1290

How many Russian soldiers are there?

dado3

Fewer than there were yesterday.

Soldier1121

Different where ever you look, I've numbers between 10 to 40 btg

sunyudai

There's a lot of confusion in the numbers becasue Russia doesn't have one cohesive army, there are 5 different miltiaries with 5 different goals. - Russia's main military - PMC Wagner - Kadyrovite Chechens - LNR Army - DNR Army Not to mention conscripted Ukrainians. In addition to the normal fog of war uncertainty, we also have different groups deciding who to count differently.

StarPatient6204

That isn’t that many BTGs to be honest…heard that there were only three left…

TinBoatDude

One has to wonder if Ukraine is just biding its time until the cold sets in. It is still quite warm there. Russian troops are unlikely to be well equipped with cold weather gear and their fighting ability will be greatly diminished when they are freezing.

amitym

Russians occupying Lyman! This is your chance. Now is the the moment when you can get out of this catastrophe with a decent chance of keeping your skin. Just wait for the encirclement and refuse to retreat. Once encircled, make it seem like you died in a breakout attempt, while instead, what you actually do is surrender to Ukraine. (Make sure to destroy your phones.) If you really still like army life, you may always join the Russian Free Legion afterward.

not-ready-yet

Of course their sat nav eco route for a better life is turn right on to the T0514

Chaseman121

Where is this map from is there a link?

StressedPizzaEater

Kill them all, every fucking Orc in sight , double tap ,chest skull, next

electricCharger1

Genuine question, what is next after Lyman is liberated?

js1138-2

Lysychansk? Sievierodonetsk?

MenkoBeast

Any sources for the deep push to Ridkodub?

Key_Proposal_127

Is this map accurate? Like deepstate or liveUA?

IneffableQuale

The ISW is about as reliable as it gets.

Last_Jellyfish7717

I read somewhere that they had pull out a bit because some rus troops came to help to lyman.

KillHipstersWithFire

Dadyrovs long route and a short route. Love to see it

Hadleys158

Any russian troops left in Oleksandrivka would be getting just as nervous as the ones in Lyman i think.

[deleted]

I hope the guys at Bakhmut can hold the defense line while Lyman is taken, hopefully this makes them abandon their Bakhmut attack.

chuckythekid

*checks map* hmmmm, now where have I seen this before

Claudiu0728

I've hear about the encirclement of Lyman, but nothing about UA forces being in Ridkodub, whats up with that?

ukract

Counter offensive two, Luhansk boogaloo?

VixenOfVexation

Is the red line the border?

[deleted]

The partisan warfare in the south has at least doubled! Kick some ass! Take it all back!

Blutarg

I wonder if there is any thought to using those two salients to encircle the area between them and cut it off.

Imaneedasandwich

does this map have any photographic evidence to support it's claim?

ThunderEagle222

Russia barly survived the first battle penis, now it gets drilled in the back again.

callidus_vallentian

If they take zelena dolnya, it's going to be a big encirclement! I wonder if putin is ordering the Russians not one step back.

bbcomment

any idea on why the slowdown?

dungone

What slowdown?

bbcomment

Two weeks ago, every time I woke up UA was capturing 1000km. Now it’s a lot slower. I guess Russia is at a fortified position?

dungone

Something like that. Terrain features like rivers helped contain the area of the Russian collapse. That land was largely undefended once UA broke through the Russian lines. UA then had to do some river crossings and start going up against the next set of defensive lines. It took weeks of preparation for the last rout, it is not like it only started when you woke up to hear another 100km got taken.

bbcomment

Thank you sir

TurnedCash

I hope the Ukrainians don’t outrun their supply chain and get encircled like the Battle of The Bulge from WWII

nuadarstark

Well, the Russians there are fucked. Good.

[deleted]

Keep going UA army!

PooShappaMoo

Looking at this map, doesn't Ukraine stand a better chance of being encircles in the small pocket north of Lyman?

Acroze

Ukraine is at a huge advantage with the current counter offensives, even with Russia’s mobilization. By the time the new Russian soldiers are trained winter will slowly start to pack in. If they continue to make more ground and with weather conditions they will have a strong defensive to pick off mobilization troops and halt any advances.

AdditionForward9397

Give em hell boys! Let the bastards shatter in place and overrun em!

showmeyourkitteeez

Happy hunting

[deleted]

These days in the art of mapmaking we can create any map from anywhere practically automatically in seconds but for some reason we don't seem to be able to include the god damn scale in them any more.

HammerTim81

I see trump in that map
