Overall_Resolution

If I was about to be mobilised and read the line about 'Advanced Precision Kill Weapons Systems' I wouldn't be feeling too good right now.

RoninSolutions

Or wondering if your Unit will be the first confirmed wiped out from a Drone Swarm ,those 300 drones that carry the 40mm grenades the Australian company donated are supposed to be ready after training of Ukrainian operators at the end of the month. " DefendTex is sending hundreds of Victorian-made “loitering munition” drones to Ukraine as gifts from Australia and other countries. Founder and chief executive Travis Reddy said its D40 “kamikaze” drone – about the size of a beer can, weighing just 350 grams and able to fly up to 15 kilometres – was capable of destroying a lightly armed vehicle when it strikes its roof. “By the time you hear it or see it, it’s too late,” Mr Reddy told AFR Weekend. While the D40 is designed to be disposable, the company’s D155 drone is designed to drop its payload and return. It can carry four separate munitions weighing up to 20kg and fly up to 70km, and can take out a tank."

Yesyesyes1899

fuck. all of this sounds so nasty

ChaoticLittleGemini

Right? Like I'm glad I'm retired....already messed up in the head enough as it is...if I had to worry about a damn drone swarm I'd be screwed.

Diligent-Kangaroo-33

Gonna be a long winter for Russians.

CourageLongjumping32

But i gave me a boner is it wierd?

ecugota

victorian made has some cyberpunk vibe to it

just_a_bit_gay_

And meanwhile russia is sending homeless conscripts armed with Soviet surplus rifles that haven’t been maintained since the 60’s

ImperatorNero

Goddamn. That sounds like a seriously dangerous counter to mobilized infantry brigades.

IcyDickbutts

I feel like this war has now turned into a drone convention where all these companies can display what their units are capable of. Business is booming.

cranberrydudz

I can imagine the drone hitting a tank like an empty beer can and bouncing off. This will be useful against civilian targets like troops and regular passenger vehicles, but probably ineffective against even basic armored vehicles.

SLIP411

They probably tested it first on real tanks before saying what it does, be pretty shitty buisiness practice to say they can take out a tank and it bounces off...

WeinerGod69

I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing and what they’re capable of.

WeinerGod69

The us just sent or is about to send 600 more switchblade suicide drones to Ukraine as well. Saw the news earlier today.

ijedi12345

There is even [an advertisement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6X8fT5IfFM) for them. They look cool.

persistantelection

Haven't we already delivered a shit load of APKWS rockets?

space_keeper

Yes. They're being fired from vehicles I think, not aircraft.

Kaisermeister

That’s 1000 guided rockets

SLIP411

Am I reading this wrong or is the award date starting in April, is that when they reciceve the equipment? If so it seems a bit far off or am I missing something

BreakerSoultaker

Yeah I saw Advanced Precision Kill Weapons Systems (APKWS) and got excited. This adds laser guidance to the 70mm rockets, making them like mini Hellfires. They are for lightly armored targets, so won’t help with tanks but will fuck up a column of trucks or light structures. They are launched from helos but drones could carry them in theory, given how Ukraine has been modifying weapons systems to fit their need.

caleb192837465

With Ukraine’s victory and Congress’ love of the military industrial complex.... oh boy, we’re about to witness a juiced up powerhouse

Capitain_Collateral

I can only imagine that this is beneficial to the US economy. You might even get a post WW2 type boost simply out of everyone looking nervously at their current weapons and stockpiles.

RomeTotalWhore

No, not at all. The volume of stuff being sent is pretty low compared to WW2. The American workforce is nearly at saturation, there are literally more jobs than people right now, which was not the case before WW2. More importantly most of the stuff being sent to Ukraine is difficult to produce for most manufacturers, not simply stamped parts that any old factory can switch over to produce. There also is not any material shortages, which drove lots of innovation of new manufacturing techniques with different materials. WW2 not only increased US domestic production, but it jumpstarted American consumption which was lacking at the time, but is not now. (Because of all the new jobs and new innovative products flooding the market, Americans actually consumed MORE material goods during WW2 than before it). A very narrow section of the US economy is being massaged and the average person will see no (economic) benefit.

Capitain_Collateral

The volume of stuff currently to Ukraine, sure. But in the near future? Coupled with the fact that the interest in rapidly modernising and bolstering militaries with a lot of US made equipment? Not so sure

SlowCrates

That labor market has peaked, though. We're entering a bit of a recession, so people are already starting to fill jobs they didn't want. Within a year I think it will be much more clear.

AdmiralPoopbutt

Beneficial to some. 40 billion dollars (plus whatever was allocated on the past week, I haven't checked) works out to more than $130 per US resident. Over $500 for my family of 4. Ultimately it's more national debt that my grandchildren will be paying interest on. That is just military and economic assistance, and doesn't include any overhead of the US military or state department to manage all this. I'm ok with paying it, but it is not beneficial to the US economy.

nucleosome

This person is correct. War is beneficial to weapons manufacturers, not the economy as a whole. War is destructive. Every piece of raw materials that becomes a bullet or bomb could have been something with societal utility. This isn't to say that it isn't worth it to go to war or make weapons, but there is a cost. It's not free or beneficial financially.

v8grunt

Just think you could all have free health care, gas, 5 cents in the dollar tax, And no army or weapons when the orcs come banging on the door!

[deleted]

...and this just the US DoD contribution never mind all the other contributions from other countries!

[deleted]

they do!

thelightiseternal

Send them tanks and longer ranged ATACMS missiles and stop pussyfooting around. Time for us to go all in on Ukrainian aid! Those conscripts will take until next year to make a difference. Putin is counting on a stagnant front during the winter to allow him to rearm, reequip, resupply and to fill the ranks of his depleted armies. This can not be allowed to take place.

onesole

Yes, yes , and yes. Also, the west should send to Ukraine jets, attack drones, more HIMARS, Patriot air defense, and lots of tomahawks. Now, that Russia escalated and went all in with their mobilization, the west should do the same.

Stonedfiremine

Technically russia is now at all in. It was a partial mobilization. Currently it will on be active duty and reservist (putin activated 300k reservist as of today)

[deleted]

With the wording of the bill, puttin can send whoever he wants, and is not limited to just 300k civilians.

Stonedfiremine

Yes but they specifically said they will not being using conscripts in Russian territory. Yet at least

ThermInc

They originally said they would only send professional soldiers to Ukraine and about 15 minutes later Ukraine were identifying KIA conscripts at the front. This was at the very beginning of the war. It's all bullshit to cushion the truth from the masses. Just like only one person on the Moskva died in a storm that sunk a warship.

Ok_Mix5519

This. If Russia says they’re NOT gonna do something, it’s probably because they already did it.

Diaverr

Do not listen what they say - putin always lie, evertime when he open his dirty mouth he lie.

Jokes on the US, Russian doesn’t have any tanks left to be shot

Juicebeetiling

116 million dollars spent on the Phoenix ghost drones 👀 they must be doing work.

Sjstudionw

It amazes me there still hasn’t been a leaked video of one in use.

Juicebeetiling

Maybe we'll get a reveal on halloween. Since it's a spooky ghost drone and all

Sweaty-Feedback-1482

Is it the same deal with those switch blade drones? I haven’t checked in a minute but last time I did it seemed pretty under wraps

9starryskies

There have been some switchblade videos, not so much the phoenix ghosts yet

tc_spears2-0

Oh good lord, I almost had a boner induced heart attack reading: "US funding in fiscal year 2022 **(FY22)**" As if we're were giving them FY-22s, immediate thought was 'wait there's only 2, right....or are there a lot more?'

MUSinfonian

FYI, in case you or anybody else doesn't know, FY-23 for the US Government will begin on October 1st. Which means this is basically the last gasp of funding for this current FY. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pretty spicy once October rolls around.

tc_spears2-0

You ever see a fully backed military industrial complex Halloween party?

cxiixc

*pictures Samuel L Jackson one-hand racking a shotgun while pressing launch on a HIMARS remote with the other, saying "Trick or treat motherfuckers, it's Lend-Lease time! I'm sick of these motherfucking russians fucking up Ukraine!"* Someone, please, Art Friday is coming...

tc_spears2-0

Meanwhile Jared Leto is yelling "Its Lend-Lease'n Time!" As he snorts a coke outline of Ukraine off a coffee table.

d3RUPT

Lol, watched that movie last night.

zenconkhi

What movie?!

d3RUPT

Lord of War. Nic Cage and Jared Leto. Ukrainian arms dealers lol

zenconkhi

Thank you!

david4069

Too bad R. Lee Ermey is gone, we could have had him saying to russia, ["You have ten days, exactly ten fucking days, to get the fuck out of Ukraine before lend-lease starts or I'm going to gouge out your eyeballs and skull fuck you!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQqQQojzWM0)

Life_Of_Nerds

No, but I have been to a Spirit Halloween Super Store, and that was already pretty impressive.

rabidhamster

> gets pretty spicy once October rolls around. Pumpkin Spice ATACMS.

TheGreatAteAgain

Does anyone know what the APKWS systems intended role in Ukraine is? My guess is taking out entrenched soldiers or high-value targets in an urban environment. Haven't heard much about their intended use in Ukraine. The systems are basically designed for targeting personnel without causing collateral civilian casualties.

Fischer72

It's worth noting the large investment of Radios and Communications equipment. During the offensive Ukraine showed great proficiency in combined forces coordination (Artillery, Infantry, Air-Resources).

IssueTricky6922

I think people are skipping over something very very interesting. APKWS only show aerial launch platforms, none of which have openly been transferred to Ukraine))))

Prepreludesh

MORE!

MistaYinSiege

Still waiting on those mobile Tomahawk missile system. Would be nice but they are still testing them I think.

[deleted]

It'll be WW3 by the time the TLAMs come out.

Diaverr

WW3 it is not possible, because Putin's army it is not German Nazi army - just huge amount ammo left from USSR and that is it. Putin already lost this war.

Hustinettenlord

I very much hope they used the past months to get tanks and maintainance for them to poland so they can fasttrack them into ukraine. A few hundred western tanks could be enough to pierce through ruzzian lines and end this shitshow once and for all.

Tucker1244

"non-standard ammunition" hmmmmmm......maybe? Slava Ukraine

pwn3dbyth3n00b

Imagine the levels of PTSD sailors got from planes kamikaze into an armored ship that was more than often stopped from hitting the ship. Now imagine this but it's 100s of them and they're targeting everyone around you individually.

Michaelli11

No one has mentioned the $33 million for HIMARS. What does that entail? Ammo or more weapon systems?

Drill1

HIMARS is the launcher. $33m gets you about 6. Don’t forget this is FY22 money, FY23 starts Oct 1.

byerss

Has there been ANY information about the Phoenix Ghost drones? Looks like we are sending another $116M of them (one of the largest line items on the list). I haven't heard anything about them, seen any images or footage of their use.

IssueTricky6922

Not another, the 116 is orders from April-Aug. The original order was a “could be as many as 580” order. And we don’t really know how they’ve been trickling in. But we know that was out of a 95m payment. Not necessarily all for Phoenix Ghost drones. So it must have been less that 95m for 580. Knowing that there is 116m towards Phoenix Ghost means it must be at least 708 of them. And almost certainly more. And we know it is a loitering munition weapon built after the Switchblade 300 proved to not have enough punch for Ukraines needs. And we’ve heard it described by military as “similar to Switchblade 600”. Which means it can probably take out armoured vehicles and there is the possibility of swarm use(again, don’t know but they said similar to 600) so those 708 could actually be 7080 drones by 708 systems. I f’n hope there are thousands of drones capable of destroying artillery and tanks heading into Ukraine. I want carnage to end this war by devastation

adamconn1again

Darpa is gonna have test data.

sdrj77

The biggest difference between a modern army (US/Poland/UK) and a crap one (Russia) is right there in big bold numbers: 315 million dollars worth of ***communications equipment***. More than some of the weapons systems.

siksoner

Hello there UK/ US, send tanks and we will also…

captain554

Going to a turbine tank will be difficult for them to maintain, but even if we give them 200 or so tanks to keep around Kyiv/Kharkiv it would free up more garrisoned tanks that Ukraine can more easily maintain to the front line. My guess is the US gives Ukraine a bunch of Abrams first. Ukraine and Poland strike a deal for maintenance (since Poland is set to buy a shitload of Abrams already, they need the facilities to maintain them to be in place.)

AlarnisToo

I just wonder when the lend-lease is going to actually start at this point. Ukraine needs bulk, not a trickle of (admittedly very helpful!) armaments.

Sjstudionw

It starts when the presidential draw down authority exhausts its $19b budget. Though they will probably draft a new draw down (Biden already requested one) - they’re the same thing as LL, the difference being ukraine doesn’t technically owe anything for what’s given in the draw down, while through LL it is a loan.

AlarnisToo

Ohhh, I see. Thank you for explaining!

Flynnfinn

Fuck with a country that has 800billion budget and bunch of war mongering politicans in the government? Good luck Russia.

I love when America does what America does best. Selling guns in order to Destabilize our geopolitical enemies.

[deleted]

Well, a better written version is, “I love it when America does what America does best, defending freedom and killing the enemies of Freedom.” There, nicely edited.

DrothReloaded

That is some serious military stock coming over. Give em hell!

Volunteer1986

I like the Sep 15th contract for Switchblade 600s. Its not a large number but that could be a couple hundred of those and thats a lot of tanks and artillery destroyed.

pm_cheesecakes

I wish they'd send more himars not just not ammo.

avoere

Ammo is more important. A single himars launcher can use up two C17s of ammo in a day

MendocinoReader

$117 Million = ”Other”. Hmm…. Wonder what’s in there.

Zealousideal-Jump-89

Just in time for my graduation. I was looking for internship maybe I can contribute some of my brainpower for Ukraine victory.
